"Where is she? She's inside," Chen Feng asked.
"Hmm, she's probably on the second floor." Lin Nian had just entered the house and didn't know which floor she was on.
"Brother, what did you buy? Is there any for me?" Lin Nian stared longingly at the pastries.
"Yes, your box is in the car." Chen Feng carried the things into the house, and Lin Nian threw away his cigarette and followed him in happily.
Now Chen Feng no longer sits by the door; he goes directly to the table in the hall.
"Xia Yingying, I'm back. Come down here." Chen Feng called out as he put his things on the table.
The sound of Xia Yingying's high heels came from upstairs. She crossed her arms and asked lazily, "What?"
“Here, I bought some pastries in the provincial capital for you,” Chen Feng said, beckoning to her.
Xia Yingying walked to the table, glanced at the exquisite pastries, and remained calm and composed.
"How was the auction?" she asked as she sat down.
“He accepted them all. The large gold nugget was offered at a low price of three million, and my small diamond-shaped piece was offered at a low price of one million. I just don’t know if anyone will buy it,” Chen Feng answered without any concealment.
"Wow, so much money! Four million in one go?" Lin Nian felt like he was in a dream. The money came too easily.
"It's uncertain whether anyone will buy it. If no one buys it, I'll have to sell it to a recycling center. Of course, it's possible I'll get more than that," Chen Feng said with a smile, changing the subject.
"So you bought this to thank me?"
"You really don't do things without a reason, do you?" Xia Yingying pointed at the pastries, a half-smile on her face.
"What are you talking about? I care about you so much, even without the auction, wouldn't I still have to buy some for you?" Chen Feng said with a serious expression.
Xia Yingying snorted and rolled her eyes at him.
"By the way, Feng-ge, do you know how amazing Sister Ying is? She can even operate an excavator," Lin Nian said to Chen Feng in amazement, remembering this.
"You can operate an excavator?" Chen Feng looked at Xia Yingying in surprise.
"What, is it strange that I, a mine owner, can operate an excavator?" Xia Yingying raised an eyebrow at him.
"That's true, but it's still impressive that you, a girl, can operate an excavator."
Chen Feng nodded, praising him quite earnestly.
"Stop flattering me, I need to cook." Xia Yingying took the pastries upstairs and went straight to the kitchen.
Lin Nian whispered to Chen Feng, "Sister Ying bought too many vegetables again?"
"Shut up. If she hears that, neither of us will get any food," Chen Feng nudged Lin Nian with his leg, giving her a quiet warning.
Chen Feng had figured out what this woman was capable of; she could do it, but he couldn't say it.
If you've already said it, then you can just wait and see.
Upon hearing this, Lin Nian quickly covered his mouth and lay face down on the table.
Chen Feng, of course, wasn't so oblivious, so he got up to help Xia Yingying wash the vegetables.
Xia Yingying's attitude towards him was, "If you want to help, I won't chase you away; if you don't want to help, I won't call you."
What are you planning to do with this meat?
Chen Feng took the cleaned piece of meat and asked Xia Yingying how he should cut it.
"Sweet and sour pork, but..." Xia Yingying hesitated.
"What's wrong?" Chen Feng asked, seeing her like this.
"I've only tried making it by watching tutorials, but I've never actually done it myself. I don't know if it will taste good," Xia Yingying said with some concern.
"Have you bought all the materials?" Chen Feng rummaged through the bag.
"Hmm, it should be all there." Xia Yingying had never done it before, so she wasn't too sure.
"Alright, I'll do it then." Chen Feng immediately started cutting, making Xia Yingying blink involuntarily.
"Starch." Chen Feng put the sliced meat into the bowl and turned to look at Xia Yingying.
"Oh." Xia Yingying had been watching Chen Feng the whole time, and only realized what he meant when she heard this. She quickly went to find him some starch.
As she handed the starch to Chen Feng, Xia Yingying asked softly, "You really know how to make this? I've never heard you mention it before."
"I know a lot more, just watch, little sister." Chen Feng skillfully applied the batter and then heated the oil in the wok.
Shredded scallions, shredded carrots, and shredded ginger.
After Chen Feng finished speaking, he went to prepare the sauce, and Xia Yingying quickly prepared the ingredients for him.
Chen Feng fried the meat slices one by one, took them out, and handed one to Xia Yingying, humming in acknowledgment so she could try it.
Xia Yingying pinched the flesh that Chen Feng was holding with her fingernails and took a small bite.
The outer shell is crispy, and the inside is soft and tender—it's simply perfect.
"Wow, you really know how?" Xia Yingying said in surprise.
"Just kidding." Chen Feng stirred the sauce, preparing to cook it.
Xia Yingying leaned against the kitchen cabinet, watching Chen Feng work while taking small bites of the fragrant fried meat he handed her.
Seeing how much Xia Yingying was enjoying her food, Lin Nian got hungry too and couldn't help but say something.
"Brother, I want to eat too."
"Stay put, you'll be everywhere," Chen Feng said as he cooked the sauce.
Upon hearing this, Lin Nian slumped dejectedly onto the table. Xia Yingying couldn't help but chuckle at the sight, finding the meat in her hand even more delicious. For some reason, she felt incredibly satisfied at that moment.
Once the sauce is cooked, pour the meat over it, toss it a few times with a spoon, and it's ready to serve. The pungent vinegar smell can be detected from a great distance.
"All done. You can take this and eat it. I'll stir-fry the remaining two bok choy together," Chen Feng said, pouring the vegetables onto a plate.
"good."
Xia Yingying didn't argue this time. She carried the plate to the table, sat down, picked up a piece of sweet and sour pork with her chopsticks, and waited for the other dishes to be cooked.
Lin Nianzao couldn't wait any longer and quickly picked up his chopsticks, took a piece, and tried it.
"This vinegar smells really strong, but it's so delicious. This is how you make sweet and sour pork taste good." Lin Nian said with a satisfied expression, biting into the sweet and sour pork without even daring to inhale too much.
"Your brother can cook? How come I never knew before?" Xia Yingying asked Lin Nian with some surprise.
“Of course he is. He’s just lazy. He won’t do anything if someone else is doing it. You see, he would start doing it when no one is around.” Lin Nian said, as if he knew him all too well.
"I see." Xia Yingying smiled. She had noticed that Chen Feng was the type of person who would rather sit than stand, and rather lie down than sit.
The bok choy was stir-fried very quickly; it only needed to be tossed in the pan a few times before being taken out of the wok.
"Your cooking skills are quite good," Xia Yingying said to Chen Feng, who had just sat down.
"Oh well, let's just make do with this." Chen Feng put on an act, putting on a Versailles-like demeanor.
After finishing their meal and drinking some tea, Chen Feng and Lin Nian returned to their car. Xia Yingying locked the door. Despite her nonchalant demeanor, she was actually thinking about the pastries.
Lin Nian did the same; as soon as he got back to the car, he couldn't wait to open the two boxes of pastries that Chen Feng had brought him.
"Mmm, so delicious! Is there twelve in a box?"
"These two boxes seem to be the same, don't they?" Lin Nian curiously opened the other box.
"Same, twelve of them all," Chen Feng replied, looking at his phone.
"Brother, have you eaten yet? Try one, it's delicious." Lin Nian picked up a piece and held it to Chen Feng's mouth.
