The two eventually left the meeting room, not worried that their conversation would be monitored.
Aside from the recorder recording video, there is no other surveillance during the exploration team's meetings, which is for the sake of confidentiality.
"I'm going back to the hotel to pack my toiletries. Do you two need to come with me, or are you going to wait in the car?" Qi Minglin asked Chen Feng, turning around.
“We can just sit in the car, you go ahead,” Chen Feng said.
Qi Minglin was packing her things. Why would the two of them follow her? They might as well sit outside and stroll around for a while.
"Okay, feel free to contact me if anything comes up. I'll be going now." Qi Minglin said and got into a car.
Chen Feng and Li Chunlai sat at the doorway and lit a cigarette.
"Brother Feng, this woman is pretty ruthless. She seems to have an aura that rivals your sister-in-law's," Li Chunlai said.
"Just kidding. To be the team leader of a special national project, she can't be an ordinary person, especially since she's so young, she looks like she's only in her early thirties," Chen Feng said, flicking his cigarette ash.
"Brother Feng, you were so certain at the meeting, are you really confident that you can find rare earth elements in that village city?" Li Chunlai asked curiously.
"No," Chen Feng said calmly.
"Oh, you were so insistent back then. What if you never actually found any rare earth elements?" Li Chunlai said worriedly.
"What are you going to do? What are you afraid of? Did you pay money or a deposit? If you can't find it, just go home." Chen Feng laughed.
“That’s true, but this is a national project. Can you just say you can’t find it? Won’t people cause you trouble?” Li Chunlai was still somewhat worried.
"Are you kidding me? They've been searching for a year and a half and haven't found any rare earth elements. You think I'll be executed after I've been searching for two months and haven't found any?"
"You worry about a lot every day. By the way, don't tell anyone about this, so as not to cause trouble," Chen Feng advised.
“I understand Brother Feng, I can still distinguish the pros and cons in this kind of thing,” Li Chunlai nodded.
The two sat for more than an hour before Qi Minglin returned.
"Are you coming with me, or are you going to find another car?" Qi Minglin asked, leaning out of the passenger seat.
"Of course I'll go with you, my luggage is still in your car." Chen Feng stood up, dusted himself off, and got into the car with Li Chunlai.
"Shall we set off now?" Chen Feng asked as he got into the car.
"Soon, there are still two cars whose people haven't finished packing their things."
“They are all technicians, working at the hotel to organize and analyze data, so it will be a little slow,” Qi Minglin replied.
"How long does it take to drive from here to Pingcun City?" Li Chunlai asked.
"About twenty-four hours," Qi Minglin replied, glancing at her phone.
"Wow, that's so far!" Li Chunlai said in surprise.
"My back started to hurt when I heard it was going to be such a long ride." Chen Feng disliked taking long-distance buses the most, and he was tired of it.
"Chen Feng, you insist on going to Pingcun City and want command. What gives you the confidence to do this, or are you just guessing?"
Now that there were no outsiders in the car, Qi Minglin was finally able to ask the question.
"I'll just follow my usual pace when I'm looking for gold. I look for gold wherever I feel like it, and the same goes for rare earth elements."
"As soon as I saw Pingcun City on the map, I wanted to go there from the bottom of my heart. Maybe it was my great-grandfather who guided me," Chen Feng said seriously.
"No, what exactly did your great-grandfather do? Was he a tomb raider?" Qi Minglin turned around and asked, puzzled.
"He toiled from dawn till dusk, working all day long, and made outstanding contributions to the country. He also maintained a long-term cooperative relationship with the nation," Chen Feng said, looking out the window.
"Your great-grandfather was an archaeologist?" Qi Minglin asked with admiration.
She knew about archaeology, and that the archaeologists of that generation had a very difficult time. Not only were the conditions harsh, but the salaries were also low, and sometimes they even had to pay for their own tools.
"More or less." Chen Feng nodded.
"More or less... So who is he?" Qi Minglin asked.
"I farm," Chen Feng replied.
Upon hearing this answer, Li Chunlai couldn't help but burst out laughing. He knew Chen Feng wasn't up to anything.
Upon hearing this answer, Qi Minglin took a deep breath and looked out the window, speechless.
Is this what you call "almost there"?
Archaeology and farming are completely unrelated fields, and you're telling me they're similar? You're really something else...
"You know what, back in the day, my great-grandfather actually dug up a grave while farming," Chen Feng said seriously this time.
"Really? You're kidding me." Even Li Chunlai didn't believe it this time.
"Look, you think I'm kidding you? The tomb my great-grandfather dug up, the coffin was practically brand new when it was unearthed. It wasn't rotten at all, even the paint was shiny," Chen Feng said seriously.
Upon hearing this, Qi Minglin's ears perked up. Could it be that his great-grandfather had actually done tomb raiding?
"Really? After so long, how can the coffin still look so new, with even the paint still shining?" Li Chunlai said in disbelief.
"It's true. Not only is the paintwork fresh, but even the mortise nails are remarkably new. The burial goods inside, even the patterns on their clothing are clearly visible."
"And you know, my great-grandfather opened a clay pot in the tomb, and it contained soup. Oh my god, my great-grandfather said that the soup still had a fragrance, and you could even see the dates inside." Chen Feng said, marveling at his own words.
"Holy crap, they dug up a huge tomb! Your great-grandfather is going to be rich! Didn't he open the coffin to see if there was any gold or silver inside?" Li Chunlai asked hurriedly.
Qi Minglin was also listening intently, eager to know what happened next.
Such a well-preserved tomb must belong to a wealthy family, and it's even possible that it contains nationally protected cultural relics.
“How could we not open it? My great-grandfather pried the coffin open back then,” Chen Feng said.
"What a pity. That coffin has research value. It would be too wasteful to destroy it with violence." Qi Minglin couldn't help but say when she heard this.
“Listen to me, when the coffin was opened, the person inside looked so lifelike, as if they had just been buried. The wrinkles on their face were clearly visible.”
"Holy crap, is this for real? This is outrageous!" Li Chunlai was stunned.
“It’s definitely true. My great-grandfather would never lie. Those clothes are brand new, practically brand new. They even reflect light in the sun. Isn’t that amazing?” Chen Feng said to the two of them.
"Whose grave is this? It must belong to a famous person. Did the government take over the tomb later?" Qi Minglin couldn't help but ask.
"Whose grave is that? Don't be scared, it's Wang Guifang's grave!" Chen Feng snorted.
"Wang Guifang? Who is Wang Guifang?" No matter how hard Qi Minglin searched his memory, he couldn't recall who Wang Guifang was in history.
"Who is Wang Guifang? Wang Guifang is the mother of the village chief from the village next to my great-grandfather's."
“The village chief’s mother died three days ago. My great-grandfather wasn’t home when she was buried, and he didn’t know about it when he came back.”
"Then he went up the mountain to clear land, wanting to dig up a piece to plant something himself, but he ended up digging up the village chief's mother who had just been buried."
Chen Feng chuckled as he spoke.
"Oh, so that's why that coffin looked so lifelike, like it was brand new. Turns out it wasn't just like it was brand new, it was fucking brand new!"
Li Chunlai only realized what was happening when he heard this, and then suddenly spoke forcefully.
