Chapter 124 Seats

After all the courses were over, a tense atmosphere permeated both the humanities and science classes.

There was no room to stand in the classroom with piles of books.

The Mediterranean-looking homeroom teacher walked in, glancing disdainfully at the group of students who had just finished math class and were now slumped over. "Wake up. If you're sleepy, go to the bathroom and wash your face to wake yourself up."

However, the classroom was completely silent.

No one moved.

Seeing this, the homeroom teacher said nothing more and silently helped open the windows for ventilation. It was flu season, and everyone's health was worse than anyone else's. If the flu spread, the whole class would be doomed.

It was almost 10 p.m. when evening self-study ended.

Xu Tiantian and Ying Qian walked together, and both of them were sniffling.

"The science classes are really tough!" Xu Tiantian looked back at the brightly lit science classroom. "If they keep going like this, they'll all get sick and have to go home sooner or later!"

"There's nothing we can do..." Ying Qian said helplessly. "Who can blame us when No. 3 Middle School is the undefeated champion in science every year?"

For ten consecutive years, No. 3 Middle School has been the top science school in the province in terms of the rate of students admitted to top universities. Behind this achievement are countless grueling practice sessions.

Although the weather is gradually getting warmer, the temperature drops at night, and the cool breeze is really hard to bear.

The next morning.

Ying Qian, still lost in her dreams, received a call from Xu Tiantian.

"Ying Qian, I have a fever... Help! I thought I'd be able to hear about the finals, but I didn't even make it past the preliminaries. I can't take it anymore, I'm taking the day off. Good luck to you!"

"Mmm." Ying Qian mumbled sleepily, but still remembered to tell her, "Take good care of yourself at home, I'll help you catch up on your notes."

"I love you, Ying Qian! My darling! If you were in front of me, I would give you a big hug."

Flu season is really scary.

As I walked into the campus, I could hear constant coughing.

There were many empty seats in the classroom, and the teacher's lectures gradually became less engaging.

The science students get up early and go to bed late, so Ying Qian rarely sees Chen Wenzhi throughout the day and doesn't know how he is doing.

"Aren't you tired?" a male voice suddenly asked from beside me.

Ying Qian was speechless. Ever since Gu Xinan came back, he seemed like a different person. He had become less talkative and more mature. Today was the first time he had taken the initiative to talk to her.

"What's tiring?" Ying Qian lowered her head and continued to help Xu Tiantian copy notes. "Xu Tiantian is my friend. Helping a friend is nothing to be tired of."

"Oh." With that one word, he buried his head in his arms again.

He still loves his lunch break just the same.

He used to never sleep, but now he falls asleep as soon as his head hits the pillow...

His social skills seem to have declined; he eats alone in the cafeteria, and his former cronies rarely appear around him anymore.

The second week after he returned, the homeroom teacher separated them.

Gu Xinan didn't say a word while helping Ying Qian pack her books, as if he already knew everything.

Ying Qian guessed that it was he who suggested changing seats to the teacher.

"Thank you." Ying Qian politely thanked them after moving to the new location.

Gu Xinan glanced at her, his eyes swirling with emotion. He opened his lips, but facing that cold and indifferent face, he gave a cold laugh and silently returned to his seat.

Ying Qian sighed, looking at Gu Xinan who was staring blankly out the window, and couldn't help but feel that their paths had come to an end.

Well, it's good that the lingering affection of autumn will completely dissipate by spring.

Gu Xinan opened the notebook and saw the yellow rose drawn on the title page. He glanced at it once and immediately turned the page away, afraid to look at it for too long. The notebook contained all his ingenious ideas.

During his time abroad, he stayed indoors all the time, occasionally going through the motions of dating that rich girl, and spending the rest of his time writing screenplays in his room.

He's made up his mind; he's determined to become a great screenwriter!

The female protagonist in his notebook was based on Ying Qian, and he wrote a sentence on the title page: "If I can't control my own life, then I will create a world of my own."

Ying Qian looked at him quietly, unaware that her bangs were being blown around by the wind.

"Hello, new deskmate!" The math class representative is a very enthusiastic young man. He is quite steady in his work and usually respects girls very much. He is practically the epitome of male virtue.

"Mm." Ying Qian smiled faintly in response.

The math class representative is Wen Zinan. He has good grades in science subjects, but he chose humanities because he was upset with his family. However, his humanities grades are good enough for him to get into a good university.

Ever since he learned that Ying Qian liked Chen Wenzhi, he always paid attention to the rumors about Chen Wenzhi in the dormitory.

Normally, with so many people in the class talking, he couldn't just pull Ying Qian aside to talk to her alone, for fear of being misunderstood. But now, by a twist of fate, they've become deskmates, and everything has become clear.

He quickly said, "By the way, don't you really like Chen Wenzhi?"

Ying Qian was lost in thought when she was suddenly called back to her senses.

"What's wrong?"

Wen Zinan's expression was complicated, but he said in a comforting tone, "I have some bad news for you. He might have a girlfriend. From what I've heard, she should be from our liberal arts class."

"..." Ying Qian looked at Wen Zinan's serious expression, hesitated for a moment, and then put on a sad expression, "Oh... that's really unfortunate..."

Subtext: Oh yeah, that's really unfortunate, I'm his girlfriend...

If Wen Zinan knew the truth, he would be devastated.

"I thought that people with such good grades like you would be emotionally detached and never date," Wen Zinan said, scratching his head and grinning foolishly.

Ying Qian patted his shoulder, thinking he was really naive. "Hey, don't have any stereotypes. People like Gu Xinan, or those top students like Li Yi, all have boyfriends!"

After saying that, she looked Gu Xinan up and down and added, "Someone with good conditions like you can definitely find someone too."

Gu Xinan's face flushed red instantly, and he stammered, "Um...actually, I'm not...ready yet...I'm afraid it will interfere with my studies."

"Oh dear," Ying Qian laughed at him, "I was just kidding, you actually took it seriously? How could I encourage you to date, right? After all, I don't have much experience either."

Wen Zinan lowered his eyes and softly responded with an "Mm".

Ying Qian's two deskmates in the liberal arts class both had the character "Nan" in their names, and their personalities were indeed completely different, to say the least.

When returning to the dormitory after school in the evening, you must follow the class group.

Men and women lined up together on the fifth floor, and the corridor was noisy.

"Ying Qian, did you and Gu Xinan have a fight?" Wen Zinan asked, his bag slung over one shoulder and backlit.

With all the light blocked out, Ying Qian felt a little panicked and went downstairs based on her intuition and her hazy vision.

"No, what conflict could we possibly have?"

Wen Zinan said, "When I went to the office this afternoon, I heard the math teachers chatting. It was Gu Xinan who asked to sit separately from you."

"Oh." As expected, she didn't react much, just smiled and said, "We got tired of being deskmates, so we'll separate. It's no big deal."

Gu Xinan pursed her lips and thought for a long time before saying to Ying Qian, who had already run ahead, "Then don't be sad about this."
