The countryside is indeed wonderful; the air is fresh, the environment is beautiful, and even the noise is more pleasant than in the city.
Grandpa isn't actually as fierce as he looks.
The family was having dinner together that evening when Ying Qian burned her hand. Her grandfather hurriedly asked Chen Wenzhi to take her to rinse it with cold water, and when they returned, he was very attentive to her.
Grandpa had drunk a little wine, but he couldn't hold his liquor. He insisted on telling Ying Qian about Chen Wenzhi's embarrassing childhood stories, so that she wouldn't look down on her useless grandson.
Originally, there was a plan to have Chen Wenzhi take the military academy entrance exam. He was a poor student when he was young, and his brain seemed to be filled with water every day, so he couldn't learn anything. He even wet the bed when he was eight years old.
There was no way to manage him; his parents never had time to take care of him, and his grandparents couldn't control him either. They just wanted him to grow up and be a decent person, without expecting him to be successful...
Unexpectedly, his grades gradually improved and have now become excellent. He says it's all thanks to the books in his grandfather's study.
After hearing this, Ying Qian couldn't help but laugh. However, Chen Wenzhi might just be a late bloomer, not unintelligent.
Her curved eyebrows and eyes looked incredibly gentle under the incandescent light.
After taking a shower, Chen Wenzhi came out of the bathroom, wrapped in thick pajamas. Seeing that Ying Qian's nose was red from the cold, he went up to her and said, "Grandpa, let's talk about it tomorrow morning. It's too cold now. Please let her go take a shower."
Grandpa squinted at the clock hanging on the wall.
"Oh dear, it's getting late." He then burst into laughter. "You had a great chat tonight. I'm sorry, little girl, for taking up your time."
At this time, Grandma and Ren Yichen were all asleep, and only the living room light was still on.
I've finished washing up.
Ying Qian carefully pushed open the door; Shen Yun was already fast asleep.
Believe it or not, Ying Qian rarely shares a bed with anyone else.
Lying in bed for a moment, I found another heat source, which felt a bit strange.
Her breathing was soft and deep, and she carried a faint scent of magnolia blossoms, a soothing sound for sleep.
She seemed unaware that someone was watching her, or perhaps she already knew she was coming; her eyes were closed, and she showed no reaction whatsoever.
The other room, separated by only one wall, was not so peaceful.
Ren Yi was playing a game when he heard the door open. He pointed to the floor with annoyance and said, "Grandma said the floor was mopped today. Here's a blanket for you to sleep on the floor!"
"Hmm." Chen Wenzhi didn't say anything, just responded softly.
"?"
"Chen Wenzhi, have you taken the wrong medicine?" Ren Yi put his phone aside, and Chen Wenzhi's body was positioned in front of him as he grabbed a blanket. "You actually took my joke seriously?"
Chen Wenzhi turned around and said, "Really, I don't want to sleep with you either."
"..." Ren Yi rolled his eyes. "There's no need to be so obvious in expressing your dislike..."
"Is it obvious?" Chen Wenzhi slowly placed the cup on the clean tile.
Ren Yi grabbed his arm, pleading awkwardly, "Why don't you sleep with me? I don't want you to catch a cold, and then I'll be the culprit!"
Chen Wenzhi's eyes darkened, and he silently took the blanket back.
Ren Yi calmly drew a dividing line with him.
"Let's not cross the line tonight, okay?"
Chen Wenzhi stared thoughtfully at the unfair dividing line. "Okay."
"I'm not trying to be mean," Ren Yi said, picking up his phone again and starting a game. "Being with Ying Qian is like having endless things to talk about. When she talks to us, she speaks so fluently, one word at a time."
"No," Chen Wenzhi said, burrowing into the blankets. "I've talked to you enough already."
"Oh dear, can it only be the same?" he exclaimed anxiously, accusingly, "Do you speak to her in the same tone as I do?"
"It's different," Chen Wenzhi readily admitted.
Not long after, Ren Yi lost a game.
He clicked his tongue, "I think I finally understand the difference between my position and Ying Qian's in your heart."
"Um?"
“She will marry you and become your family. I’m just your brother.” He said sadly, “I never thought that after more than ten years, we would still be brothers.”
"Brothers are family too." A low voice came from under the covers.
"Oh right, right, right, let me tell you, Chen Wenzhi, you better treat me like family! Otherwise, I'll tell Grandpa!" He laughed arrogantly.
"Stop laughing. The two girls are next door. You know, the soundproofing in this house isn't very good..."
Ren Yi fell silent.
The next morning.
The door creaked and groaned, and sparse sounds drifted around.
Ren Yi opened his eyes groggily and found that the sky outside the window was still dark, with only a sliver of light.
The figure fiddling with something at the door was Chen Wenzhi.
"Damn it, Chen Wenzhi! Open your eyes and look at the time! 6:30? It's a holiday, why are you up so early? Can't you hear the roosters have stopped crowing?!" Ren Yi covered his eyes and roared helplessly.
Chen Wenzhi had already washed up and changed his clothes. He leaned against the door frame and said, "The rooster has already crowed. Get up and come run a couple of laps with me."
“You’re sick…” Ren Yi pulled the blanket over his head.
The two girls next door were also not awake, and there was no sound from inside.
Grandpa and Grandma went to the market.
Chen Wenzhi walked into the study, picked up a book at random, and began to read.
The tranquility on the second floor was not broken until nearly eight o'clock.
“Ying Qian, you tend to kick off the covers a bit at night…” Shen Yun said softly.
"Huh?" Ying Qian scratched her head awkwardly. "I... I might have that habit a little! But you know, I really can't change the fact that I kick off the covers at night!"
Shen Yun smiled slightly and smoothly moved on to the next topic: "Want to go for a walk this morning?"
"I'm fine with anything."
It's not like in the city where there's underfloor heating; it's quite cold here.
Ying Qian's hands were frozen stiff in no time. She said softly and gently, "Oh, are you not wearing enough clothes? I have a few thick coats. Shall I give them to you?"
"Hey, Shen Yun, give it to me!"
Ren Yi's hair was a mess, and he squinted as he walked downstairs, looking like he hadn't slept well. He was only wearing a sweater. "I'm freezing!"
Chen Wenzhi brought noodles from the kitchen. "Eat up."
"Thank you for your help," Shen Yun said.
Chen Wenzhi shook his head, turned and sat down next to Ying Qian. His hand under the table involuntarily grabbed her hand, which was icy cold. He whispered in her ear, "I'll get you some clothes right away. If you get cold, just say so. What's the point of trying to tough it out yourself?"
"Okay." Ying Qian squeezed his palm. "I understand."
"You two are whispering to each other?" Ren Yichao shouted. "Is this considered showing affection?"
Ying Qian's face turned slightly red.
Shen Yun tugged at his sleeve, signaling him to lower his voice.
Ren Yi nodded, a teasing smile playing on his lips, and said, "Shen Yun, shall we also show off our affection?"
"Aren't you ashamed?" She pursed her lips and stared at Ren Yi's nonchalant attitude.
"A true warrior is not afraid of losing face!"
"You always have an excuse..."
Shen Yun spoke in a soft and gentle voice, which greatly aroused Ren Yi's protective instincts.
