Liu Anran sat at her desk, processing the documents in her hands, her face etched with exhaustion.
She put down the documents in her hand and couldn't help but yawn. She had been working overtime for two days in a row and was now dizzy and extremely sleepy.
I took a sip of strong, bitter coffee to perk myself up, and then continued with my work.
She can't afford not to work! There's rent, utilities, living expenses, and she has to send money back to her parents every month. She also wants to save money to buy her own car so she doesn't have to squeeze onto the bus every day, so she has to work hard.
Having finally finished her work, Liu Anran was completely drained of energy. She leaned weakly against the back of her chair, not wanting to move a single finger.
So tired! Liu Anran slowly closed her eyes, utterly exhausted.
"Waaah... Mom, Yunlong is scared, wake up... Mom, Mom..."
Liu Anran heard a child's suppressed sobs, and her heart ached slightly. Feeling anxious, she forced her eyes open and saw a child with a dirty face and tear-streaked eyes looking at her pitifully. Upon seeing that she was awake, the child's face lit up with joy and cried out, "Mommy, Mommy, you scared Yunlong to death!"
Liu Anran didn't know why, but she felt inexplicably close to this boy named Yunlong. However, she wasn't married or had children, so where would she get a child from?
Liu Anran looked around and found herself in an unfamiliar room. The room was messy, as if someone had ransacked it.
Liu Anran rubbed her forehead in frustration. How did she get here? And why was this child calling her "Mom"?
Liu Anran was completely baffled.
Suddenly she noticed a mirror embedded in the wardrobe door, so she stood up and walked to the mirror.
The person in the mirror had messy hair, a sallow complexion, and dry lips. This wasn't me; I wasn't that disheveled. There was no red mole on the corner of my left eye, yet I looked about 80% like myself.
Could it be that I died, or rather, died from exhaustion, and was reborn into someone else's body?
How is that possible?
Liu Anran refused to believe it, but everything before her eyes forced her to accept reality!
Holy crap! How did I end up in a completely unfamiliar place when I opened my eyes, and why am I being called "Mom" by a child for no reason?
Liu Anran was so angry she wanted to yell to the heavens, "Damn it! Why is God treating me like this!"
Suddenly, a series of unfamiliar images flooded into her mind, causing Liu Anran a splitting headache. She couldn't help but clutch her head and groan softly.
It hurts so much! It feels like I'm being pricked with a needle!
Yunlong saw that Li Qingyu's face was pale and her forehead was covered in cold sweat. He looked at her in a panic and asked with teary eyes, "Mom, what's wrong?"
Seeing Yunlong's frightened expression, Liu Anran endured the pain and said, "I'm fine!"
Seeing Liu Anran's pale face from the pain, Yunlong, no matter how young he was, knew that Liu Anran was lying to him.
As the pain gradually subsided, Liu Anran's back was soaked with sweat. She sat on the ground, weak all over, leaning against the wardrobe and breathing slightly.
It hurts so damn much! She never wants to experience that kind of pain again.
Yunlong squatted down in front of Liu Anran, looking at her with concern.
Based on her memories, which overlapped with a post-apocalyptic novel she had recently read, Liu Anran realized that she had transmigrated into a post-apocalyptic novel, specifically into the body of a cannon fodder female supporting character. The child in front of her was named Yunlong, the female supporting character's son, who was four years old this year. Like the female supporting character, he was also a cannon fodder character and a stepping stone for the female lead's son.
Both mother and son are cannon fodder, and most importantly, it's still the apocalypse.
The apocalypse was cruel and bloody, leaving her, a young woman living in a peaceful era with no physical strength, wondering how she could survive with a child.
Liu Anran closed her eyes, feeling utterly hopeless and wishing she could die right now and return to the 21st century she knew!
Seeing Liu Anran's agitated state, Yunlong instinctively didn't dare to disturb her.
Liu Anran's stomach was empty and she felt very uncomfortable. She stood up and searched the room to see if she could find anything to eat, but after searching the whole room, there was nothing to eat.
"Holy crap!" Liu Anran was so angry that she threw the clothes in her hand on the ground. If she couldn't find anything to eat and didn't have to be eaten by zombies, she would starve to death!
Seeing that Liu Anran was angry, Yunlong looked at her anxiously.
Liu Anran realized she had frightened Yunlong, so she quickly composed herself and looked at Yunlong apologetically, "I'm sorry, I scared you."
"Mom, I know you got angry because you were hungry."
Yunlong was also very hungry, but he didn't dare to say it.
Liu Anran blushed slightly; she was hungry, and Yunlong must be hungry too.
Liu Anran had no choice but to go to the window and found that they lived on the second floor. The zombies downstairs were pacing back and forth, making hoarse roars.
Liu Anran withdrew her gaze with a chill running down her spine, and sat down on the ground in frustration. What should she do? She was so hungry that she had no strength left to fight the zombies. Was she just going to sit there and wait to die?
But she didn't want to die, nor could she let Yunlong die with her. What could she do? If only she had a cheat code! She didn't ask for a large supermarket, just a small space with a small pond, a piece of land, and preferably a few fruit trees, so that she and Yunlong could have enough to eat when they were hungry and take refuge in the space when they were in danger. That would make her completely content.
As soon as the thought arose, she appeared in an unfamiliar place, a place brimming with spiritual energy. She was standing by a well, and a few feet away from the well was a fishpond. Beside the fishpond were an apple tree and a peach tree, both laden with heavy fruit.
Liu Anran was overjoyed. There's always a way out. These fruits were her and Yunlong's lifeline!
With these fruits, they will not starve.
Liu Anran then looked at a large plot of land and two large plots of farmland not far away, but nothing was planted in the land or farmland, and even the small hill not far away was bare.
Liu Anran looked away with some disappointment. If only there were some grain.
Liu Anran squatted down by the well, drank a few mouthfuls of water, and felt much more refreshed. She then walked to the fishpond and looked into it, expecting to see a few fish, but she didn't see a single one.
Standing in the space, Liu Anran looked at the fields. She knew she had to find some seeds to plant some grains and vegetables so that she and Yunlong could have a secure life.
Thinking of this, Liu Anran felt a little calmer in her bewildered and helpless heart.
Worried that Yunlong would be scared if he couldn't see her, Liu Anran picked a few apples and peaches and left the space.
