Chapter 2 Preparations Before Departure

As soon as Liu Anran appeared, Yunlong rushed over and hugged her, choking back tears as he cried out, "Mommy, Mommy, where did you go? Why didn't you take Yunlong with you? Yunlong is scared all alone."

Seeing Yunlong sobbing in fear, looking so pitiful and helpless, Liu Anran felt a pang of sadness in her heart.

She had never given birth and didn't know how to be a mother, but she would do everything she could to be good to Yunlong.

"Yunlong, don't be sad, look what this is?" Liu Anran said, squatting down. Yunlong looked at the peaches and apples in her arms.

"Peaches and apples?" Yunlong exclaimed.

"Yes, it's apples and peaches." Liu Anran said, handing an apple to Yunlong.

Yunlong, his tears turning to laughter, took the apple and eagerly began to eat it; he was so hungry and had been wanting to eat for a long time.

Liu Anran watched Yunlong devour the apple, and it was clear he was starving.

Yunlong swallowed the apple in his mouth and said to Liu Anran, "Mom, eat quickly, it's so delicious!" Then he eagerly started eating the apple in his hand again.

Liu Anran placed the apples and peaches on the table, picked up an apple, and ate it in big bites.

After finishing an apple, Yunlong looked at Liu Anran and asked, "Mom, can I have another peach?"

Liu Anran watched Yunlong staring at the peaches on the table, swallowing hard. Worried that he had been hungry for too long and his stomach couldn't handle eating too much at once, she hardened her heart and said, "No! You've been hungry for too long. You can't eat so many at once. You can have another peach later."

Yunlong looked at the peach and asked, "Mom, how long is 'a moment'? I feel like a moment has passed. Can we eat the peach now?"

Liu Anran was stunned for a moment, unsure how to respond.

"Mom, a long time has passed. Can we eat peaches now?" Yunlong asked again.

Helpless, Liu Anran picked up a peach, wiped it clean, and handed it to Yunlong.

Yunlong happily took the peach from Liu Anran's hand and thanked her with a smile, "Thank you, Mom!"

"After eating this peach, you can't eat any more, or your stomach will hurt," Liu Anran said.

Yunlong said, "But my stomach feels very uncomfortable if I don't eat anything."

Liu Anran said softly, "Yunlong, Mom will never let you go hungry again."

Liu Anran hesitated when she said the word "mother," but when she thought that Yunlong was the son of this body, and this body was now hers, which meant he was her son, she felt relieved.

Her family was from the countryside, and her parents worked hard in the fields every day. She didn't want to be a farmer or work so hard, so she studied hard, got into university, and worked summer jobs to earn tuition. After graduating, she was lucky enough to get a job at a fairly large company.

She works diligently every day, never daring to slack off in the slightest.

She used to envy others getting married and having children. Now, things are great; she doesn't need to date or get married to have a son.

Thinking of this, Liu Anran gently touched Yunlong's little face and said softly, "Hello, son Yunlong, I am your mother Liu Anran! From now on, let's depend on each other for survival!"

Yunlong's lips curled up slightly, as if he had heard Liu Anran's words.

Liu Anran's lips curled up slightly as she stood up and went to the window. Her face was solemn as she looked at the zombies lingering downstairs. There were about twenty of them, and fear and unease filled her heart.

She had to take Yunlong away from here, or she would only be waiting to die.

Liu Anran first went to the kitchen, looked at the kitchen utensils and tableware, and put them all into her space. Then she found her and Yunlong's clothes and put them all into her space. Finally, she put the quilts and sheets into her space. Anyway, her space was big enough to hold as many things as she could.

Liu Anran took out a backpack, then took out three empty mineral water bottles, filled them with well water and put them in the backpack. She also put seven or eight peaches and apples in the backpack, took out a baseball bat and swung it a few times before putting it away.

Liu Anran stood by the window again. The entire neighborhood was pitch black. Listening carefully, she could only hear the roars of zombies and the rustling of leaves in the wind. The neighborhood was eerily quiet, as if there was no living person except for her and Yunlong.

Liu Anran looked into the distance and saw no flashing neon lights; it was lifeless, like a dead city.

This is the apocalypse, a cruel and terrifying world that is so frightening it's suffocating. She will have to survive in such a world with her child.

Liu Anran left the window, walked to the bedside, lay down next to Yunlong, forced herself to calm down, and then closed her eyes to prepare for sleep.

She needs to rest well so that she can protect Yunlong and herself tomorrow.
