Chapter 149 Back to Base

Liu Anran felt comforted and satisfied watching her four children sitting quietly and eating without making a fuss.

Liu Anran picked up a corn cake, peeled off a sycamore leaf, took a bite, and found it soft. Worried that too much might be bad for her child's teeth, she added a little sugar, giving it a subtle sweetness. After eating two bites, she smiled and asked, "Is it good?"

"It's delicious," Chu Zhe said.

Yunlong and Chuchen nodded in agreement; they also liked to eat it.

"Mom will make glutinous rice cakes tomorrow so you can try them. If you like them, Mom will make them for you often in the future," Liu Anran said.

Liu Anran used her divine sense to probe outside the space and found that the crows in the cornfield had not left, and her expression turned somewhat grim.

If the crow doesn't leave, wouldn't she and her child be trapped in the space forever? Besides, Liu Anran doesn't like crows at all.

Liu Anran filled a bowl with soybeans, stir-fried them over low heat until crisp, then poured them into a mortar and pestle, pounded them into a fine powder, put it away, sat and chatted with the child for a while, and then began to prepare dinner.

After dinner, it was already evening. Liu Anran noticed that the crows had all left to forage for food, so she immediately came out and quickly left.

She walked deeper into the mountains, and then she stopped. She suddenly realized that she had been walking for almost two hours and had not heard a single bird call. This was very unusual.

The sudden appearance of crows, coupled with the absence of other birdsong, suggests something amiss. Could it be that a large, powerful animal has arrived nearby and scared away the birds?

Liu Anran stopped going into the mountains and immediately headed out of the mountains, deciding to find a small village to stay in.

At dawn, the bright red sun, like a red fireball, slowly rose from the east, painting the surrounding clouds red.

Liu Anran stood on the mountaintop, gazing into the distance. The mountain peaks stretched out, and white clouds swirled among them. The Beijing base could be faintly seen in the distance.

Looking towards the direction of the Beijing base, Liu Anran's eyes darkened, then she withdrew her gaze and walked down the mountain.

As she walked, when she reached the halfway point of the mountain, Liu Anran heard a roar, sharp and slightly hoarse.

Liu Anran paused, her expression instantly turning serious. She looked around, and when she saw a thick, large tree, her face lit up with joy. She walked to the tree, nimbly climbed up, and saw a large group of zombies gathered in the ravine, hundreds of them, densely packed, making her scalp tingle.

"Holy crap!" Liu Anran almost cursed. How could those zombies suddenly appear on the mountain?

Liu Anran stared intently at the horde of zombies, thinking to herself that these zombies wouldn't have come here for no reason unless summoned by the Zombie King.

Suddenly, Liu Anran spotted a familiar figure. Upon closer inspection, she was startled.

Holy crap! It's Bai Lu! How did she turn into a zombie?

Liu Anran saw Bai Lu leap onto the rock, looking down at the other zombies with disdain, and let out a high-pitched roar, "Humans hunt us and dig out our crystal cores. Today, I will lead your Beijing base to avenge us. We will drink their blood, eat their flesh, and devour their crystal cores. I will definitely lead you to build a zombie kingdom."

Upon hearing Bai Lu's words, Liu Anran couldn't help but roll her eyes. In the zombie kingdom, Bai Lu wanted to be the zombie queen.

Regardless of whether Bai Lu saw it or not, Liu Anran gave Bai Lu a little finger, slid down the tree, and quickly left by taking a detour.

Qin Ruixu's office at the Beijing base

Qin Ruixu looked at Chu Yunxiao sitting opposite him, raised an eyebrow and said, "Yunxiao, you haven't visited An Ran and the child in a long time. You should go see them."

"I've been busy lately and can't get away. I'll go see them when I'm done," Chu Yunxiao said.

"Aren't you afraid An Ran will overthink things?" Qin Ruixu asked.

“I will explain to An Ran, and she will understand me.” Chu Yunxiao sighed as he spoke. “An Ran’s eyes and heart are filled with nothing but the child. For the child’s safety, she would rather live deep in the mountains than come back with me.”

“An Ran is attracted to you as a person, not for your power. You should be grateful to have met someone who truly cares for you,” Qin Ruixu said.

"Uncle, are you willing to live in seclusion in the mountains for the sake of women and children?" Chu Yunxiao asked.

Qin Ruixu gazed out the window with a distant look in his eyes and said frankly, "My men have risked their lives for me. I cannot abandon them and go off to enjoy myself."

"Uncle, it's time for you to get married," Chu Yunxiao said.

"I have a lot of things to take care of and no time to think about personal matters," Qin Ruixu said.

Chu Yunxiao asked with interest, "Is it because you don't have time, or because you haven't met a woman who moves your heart?"

"I have both, but I'm not as lucky as you to have met a good woman," Qin Ruixu said truthfully.

A hint of helplessness appeared on Chu Yunxiao's face as he sighed, "My grandmother is getting old and wants to see her four children. My mother also talks about her four grandsons all the time. An Ran is undoubtedly a good mother and a good woman, but she is not a good daughter-in-law. She abandoned me, her husband, and is not a responsible wife either."

“If An Ran heard you say that, she would be upset,” Qin Ruixu said.

“She won’t hear me, and she won’t care about my feelings,” Chu Yunxiao said bitterly.

"I heard you, and I really won't care about your feelings," Liu Anran's voice rang out from the office doorway.

Chu Yunxiao and Qin Ruixu were both stunned when they heard Liu Anran's voice.

Isn't Liu Anran living in seclusion deep in the mountains?

How could it be here?
