Chapter 148 Corn Cakes

Liu Anran has come to terms with it now. While a child certainly needs a father, how much love can a man who is obsessed with power give to a child? She will not force Chu Yunxiao to do anything, nor will she force herself to cater to him. She has superpowers, a spatial ability, and a lively and lovely child. Even without Chu Yunxiao, she can still live happily.

Yunlong looked at the photo in his hand. In the photo, Chu Yunxiao's lips were upturned, and a happy smile appeared on his face. He then put the photo into his personal space with a serious expression.

He knew that Liu Anran had given Chu Yunxiao chances time and time again, but Chu Yunxiao had disappointed Liu Anran time and time again, and it would be difficult for Chu Yunxiao to win back Liu Anran in the future.

Chu Yunxiao will no longer be a part of their lives, and his younger brother and sister will gradually forget him.

Seeing Liu Anran standing and talking to Yunlong, Chu Chen called out to her, "Mom, the corn is delicious! You and your older brother come and eat some corn."

"We're here," Liu Anran said.

Liu Anran and Yunlong came to the dining table and saw Chu Feng put the corn on the table. Chu Feng blew on the corn with her rosy little mouth until it wasn't so hot before taking a bite. They couldn't help but laugh.

"Feng'er, eat slowly, don't burn your mouth," Liu Anran said with a smile.

Chu Feng didn't bother to talk to her, and just buried her head in eating corn.

Liu Anran looked at Chu Chen and Chu Zhe and saw that they were also engrossed in eating corn. She felt a little sorry for them and decided to make more food and put it in her space so that the children could eat whenever they were hungry and she wouldn't have to worry about them going hungry.

After eating two ears of corn, Liu Anran took out sweet potatoes from the stove, put them in a small basket, and said to Yunlong, "The sweet potatoes aren't so hot anymore, you can take them and eat them with your younger brother and sister."

Chu Feng let out a burp, then swallowed hard as he looked at the fragrant roasted sweet potato.

Liu Anran saw Chu Feng reach out to touch the roasted sweet potato and, worried that it was too hot and would burn her hand, quickly stopped her. "Feng'er, the sweet potato is too hot. You'll burn your tongue if you eat it now. You can eat it when it's not so hot."

"Oh!" Chu Feng replied obediently.

Liu Anran scooped several kilograms of glutinous rice into a bucket, soaked it in water, and prepared to make glutinous rice cakes tomorrow. She then took out a basin and went to the corn, peeled off the husks from the corn cobs, put the corn into the basin, and filled the basin to the brim before stopping.

Yunlong led the triplets to Liu Anran's side and asked curiously, "Mom, why are you peeling so much corn?"

"I'll make corn cakes for you," Liu Anran said.

Liu Anran removed all the corn kernels, ground them into a paste using a stone mill, added some white sugar and stirred, wrapped it in sycamore leaves, and steamed it in a steamer.

Yunlong and the others would come over every now and then to check on things. Smelling the aroma wafting from the steamer, they would lift up small stools and sit next to Liu Anran, unwilling to leave.

Chu Feng lay on Liu Anran's lap and asked, "Mom, when can we eat corn cakes?"

"Just wait a little longer, and we can eat it," Liu Anran said with a smile.

Less than a minute later, Chu Feng asked, "Mom, is it almost here yet? Can we eat the corn cakes?"

Liu Anran's lips twitched, and she glanced at Chu Feng with amusement, "It's not here yet, we'll have to wait a little longer."

"Mom, how long is 'a little while'?" Chu Zhe asked curiously.

Liu Anran didn't know how to answer the question, so she said haphazardly, "A little while is such a long time, and you still have to ask such a simple question. How did I give birth to such a stupid son like you?"

Chu Zhe was bewildered, looking at Liu Anran with confusion, "Mom, didn't you say to ask if you don't understand?"

Liu Anran looked at Chu Zhe expressionlessly and asked, "How old are you this year?"

“Two years old!” Chu Zhe replied.

"A two-year-old who doesn't even know how long a 'moment' is? Aren't you stupid?" Liu Anran said.

Chu Zhe looked at his older brother and sister with a blank expression and asked, "Do you know how long 'a little while' is?"

Chu Chen and Yun Long didn't know how to answer Chu Zhe, so they both turned their heads away.

Chu Feng looked at Chu Zhe and said, "Mom already said that 'a little while' is such a long time, why are you still asking? No wonder Mom thinks you're stupid."

Chu Zhe was discouraged and hung his head in frustration.

Liu Anran smiled and patted Chu Zhe's head. All three triplets were very intelligent, especially Chu Chen. Sometimes, Liu Anran didn't know how to answer the questions they asked.

Liu Anran stood up and said, "The corn cakes are cooked and ready to eat."

Upon hearing this, Yunlong immediately ran to get the sieve and handed it to Liu Anran. Liu Anran opened the steamer, took the sieve, picked up the corn cakes and put them into the sieve, then placed the sieve on the table.

Yunlong placed the bowl on the table, Liu Anran peeled off the sycamore leaves, put the corn cake into Chu Feng's bowl, and said, "Eat slowly."

Chu Feng smiled and nodded, blowing hard into the corn cob. After blowing, she touched it with her hand, and only bit into it when it was no longer hot.

Seeing Chu Feng's greedy look, Liu Anran smiled and picked up another corn cake, peeled off the sycamore leaves, and put it into Yunlong's bowl.

"Mom, give it to my little brother first. I can wait a little longer," Yunlong said.

“Feng’er is a girl, so girls have priority. That’s why I gave her the first food. You said that as the eldest brother, you’ve worked hard taking care of your younger brother and sister, so you should have eaten second,” Liu Anran said.

"Mom, I can eat last," Chu Chen said sensibly.

Liu Anran picked up a corn cake, peeled the sycamore leaves, and looked at Chu Chen with a gentle smile, saying, "Although you are older than Chu Zhe, you were born on the same day, so we can't favor one over the other. You and Chu Zhe will take turns eating. You eat first today, and Chu Zhe will eat first tomorrow."

With more children, Liu Anran often pays attention to their feelings, making sure they don't feel that she's showing favoritism.

Chu Chen nodded with a smile.

"Mom, the corn cakes are delicious, fragrant, sweet, and soft," Chu Feng said.

Liu Anran put the corn cake in her hand into Chu Zhe's bowl and said with a smile, "Eat more if you like it."

Chu Zhe picked up the bowl and handed it to Chu Chen, saying, "Second brother, have a bite first."

Chu Chen saw that Liu Anran was holding a corn cake, and shook his head with a smile, saying that it was okay for him to wait a little while.

Looking at the scene before her, Liu Anran smiled and put the corn cakes in her hand into Chu Chen's bowl.
