Her goal was simple: to get the old lady home before it got dark.
As for walking back at night, to be honest, Yue Jiuyue was afraid. Even though the moon was very bright, she was still scared. She wasn't afraid that someone would suddenly jump out from somewhere, but rather that a wild animal would jump out, and the kind that would bite.
So, although she might not die, and might even gain something, that didn't stop her from being afraid!
"It's not that I don't want to help you, it's that I can't!"
The old lady was really scared, and even had the illusion that she needed to urinate, and that she was about to burst.
"Mother, please have pity on me! My family is really struggling to make ends meet! If you don't help me, I won't survive!"
Yue Jiuyue continued to wail, but her steps quickened.
The old lady was being pulled along faster and faster, almost to the point of jogging. Even though she was panting heavily, she didn't dare to protest or ask to rest for a while.
And so, the two walked briskly for another half hour and finally arrived at the village where the old lady lived—Shanghe Village.
As you can tell from the name, there is a river here, and the village is located upstream of this river, so the village usually does not lack water.
The river that runs through several villages has dried up downstream, but Shanghe Village still doesn't need to search for water. However, it might not be enough for irrigation, so the village limits the amount of water each household can take, for fear that people won't even have water to drink in the future.
Therefore, the harvest in Shanghe Village was only slightly better than that of other villages, and still much worse than in previous years.
"Mother, it's already dark. I've finally come back, so you must cook me a good meal, including for my brother and sister-in-law. I want to eat grain; I haven't eaten grain for years."
Upon arriving at Shanghe Village, Yue Jiuyue followed the village road toward the old lady's house. Relying on the original owner's memories, she knew that she was not far from the old lady's house, so she began to plead her pity and make demands.
Upon hearing this, the old lady exclaimed, "How could this be? If she really told her daughter-in-law that, wouldn't Qin Shi scold her to death? How could she possibly have a good life after that?"
"Hey Man, look, I'm almost home, just a few steps away. You don't need to see me off anymore. Hurry up and go home so your grandchildren won't worry about you. Go home now! I can walk the rest of the way myself."
The old lady stopped walking, turned around, and pushed Yue Jiuyue around half a circle. Then she gave her a hard push and waved goodbye to Yue Jiuyue.
"Let's go quickly, so my nephews and nieces won't worry about you!"
Yue Jiuyue: ...
I knew this would be the result.
"Mom, I'm leaving now. Don't see me off. Go home quickly, so my brother and the others won't worry about you and lose sleep."
That's impossible.
That Qin family member used to seem like a pretty honest person, not much better than the dull-witted original owner of this body.
But ever since she gave birth to her son, she's become incredibly assertive. Not only has she kept the original owner's younger brother in check, but somehow she's even taken over the old lady's household management. The old lady is now angry but dares not speak out, and has to shamelessly fawn over her daughter-in-law. She's truly the most miserable mother-in-law in the surrounding area.
Therefore, why would Yue Jiuyue want to deal with such a person, especially on her own turf?
