After a few electric beeps, the machine gradually started up. Jiang Ling felt herself being straightened. The rings above her head extended to her head, abdomen, and knees. Then the square instruments began to scan her body in a circular orbit.
There was no feeling, or rather, the instruments didn't seem to work on radioactive substances.
Her scan continued for a while, and the number of people gathered at the control console grew larger and larger.
"What's going on?"
"Why is there no data? Increase the power by one level!"
"How's the surface modeling going?"
"No, still nothing. It's like scanning a vacuum."
"How is this possible? Switching on the X-ray?"
"It can't penetrate. Only 10% is reflected."
While the workers were discussing, two men in military uniforms burst in from the doorway. They pushed aside the people watching the screen and, without explanation, pressed a red button on the control console.
The instruments stopped moving in an instant, they were pulled up by the ring, and the capsule remained vertical without changing its inclination.
Jiang Ling was released. She looked at the scene of people arguing in front of her and was confused.
“Did I pass?” she asked.
They looked at each other in silence. After a while, one of them finally understood the situation and handed over her bag.
"Please take this path. There are some things we still need to discuss. Don't take this matter to heart."
"Can we just go straight ahead? Have you stamped it?"
"It's all right, just keep moving forward!"
Jiang Ling passed through an airlock and came to another long corridor.
At the end of this corridor was a training ground, filled with training aids that tested physical strength and balance. Numerous surveillance cameras monitored the area, and any movement of anyone entering would be monitored.
There was a row of glass in the distance, which should be the monitoring room that controlled this place. Jiang Ling couldn't see what was going on inside, but she could feel several eyes staring at her.
There were already some people sitting in the rest area of the training ground, but the number was significantly smaller. Clearly, the dozen or so processes had already screened out quite a few who weren't up to standard.
She randomly found an empty seat. People nearby glanced at her, but no one came up to talk to her.
Soon some more people came in. They seemed to have seen someone they knew, so they quickened their pace slightly, gathered together, and whispered something.
The test is not over yet, and their temporary relaxation may just be an act of popping champagne at halftime.
Seeing that enough people had come, the loudspeaker in the rest area started speaking.
"Please note to all tryouts: this is a joint assessment event. It will test events 18 through 24, which are interconnected. Failure to complete this event will significantly impact your overall performance! This event requires intense exercise, so please warm up in advance..."
