Chapter 2: Crossing the Unknown

Jiang Ling watched them polish their guns until the train accelerated and stabilized. The two men had clearly noticed her actions, but they remained in that state. Now, she felt an urge to touch the weapons. The two strangely polished guns looked like two beauties bathing in her eyes. Curiosity drove her forward until her forehead touched her hood.

As if by some strange coincidence, she initiated conversation for the first time in her life: "Um, may I ask?"

Her first attempt at a conversation was a failure; her voice was so low that even a mosquito couldn't hear it. But fortunately, the two people in front of her had been paying attention to this impulsive girl for a long time. When they saw her lips move, as if she was about to speak, they immediately reacted.

"Hello, my name is Dong Xie! His name is Xi Du!"

"Oh! My name is Pharmacist! Are you also searchers?" Jiang Ling gave a fake name casually. She suspected that these two guys with accents were not locals.

"I guess so." They looked at each other, and then another person asked, "Little girl, you have been staring at us for so long, what are you looking at?"

"No, nothing! I'm just curious about the guns in your hands?" Jiang Ling was a little nervous and answered carefully.

"What are you talking about? Look at a bullet!" Dong Xie Shizi opened his mouth loudly.

"Ah? It's going to cost more money?"

"Hahaha~ Go ahead and take a look if you want! It's not a valuable item! Many people here have guns like this!" Xidu nudged Dongxie and laughed. Then he said in a negotiating tone, "Don't you have one too? Let's take a look at it."

"Okay!" Jiang Ling took off a crossbow from her back, and put the other one in her travel bag.

Dong Xie removed the magazine from the gun he had been cleaning and checked the safety. After confirming it was not charged, he handed the gun over. Jiang Ling, while reaching out, switched to the crossbow.

The moment she grasped the strange-looking weapon, she felt it was incredibly light, leading her to initially believe it was merely an empty shell. Later, she realized the shell appeared to be made of plastic, lacking any factory code, but covered in decorative paper. The entire gun was approximately sixty centimeters long, with a relatively forward center of gravity. She noticed its sci-fi design, all milky white, resembling an enlarged toothpaste container with a handle. However, there were no rails or sights, suggesting they weren't planning on using it for long-range combat. She channeled her telekinesis into the shell, and once again, she felt a familiar sensation.

That’s right, this is a 3D printed coil gun.

The entire weapon was made of engineering plastic, and the superconducting coils were carbon-based. The only metal inside was probably the bullet. Jiang Ling no longer doubted the weapon's power; she even felt it was excessively powerful. She had no idea how it eliminated recoil; she only noticed a special buffer structure on the handguard at the rear.

She didn't see any automatic mechanism, so she assumed it was a bolt-action Gauss weapon. If its accuracy was good, she began to question the Provisional Government's control measures. A weapon like this in the wrong hands would be insane. Jiang Ling could only assume it wasn't meant for humans, but for mutants. Only mutants would need a weapon of this power.

She raised the gun as she remembered, grasping the grip with one hand and supporting the barrel with the other. Then, she placed her face close to the gun's mechanical sights and, using the old three-point-one-line method, aimed at the gap in the carriage floor. She found the gun's barrel to be perfectly straight. She didn't know the accuracy of their printer, but she suspected this weapon was more accurate than she had imagined.

The world's industrial capacity had reached a terrifying level, and Jiang Ling now felt a pity that it had been destroyed in a nuclear war. But she had no regrets. Some things were destined to be unattainable. Even if they created almost unlimited wealth, they would destroy it with their own hands.

"Oh! That's amazing! You can actually use this 120-pound crossbow!" The two people opposite her exclaimed in surprise at the moment she was distracted, which attracted the attention of many people around her.

Jiang Ling looked up and saw that the two men's faces were flushed. One of them was holding the crossbow and the other was holding the bowstring. They were pulling the thin wire with all their strength. Then they heard a "click" and they finally got the bowstring to the firing position.

"You won't be that serious, will you? I think it's very light!" Jiang Ling always thought that these crossbows were just common stuff, and she basically used them as toys.

After hearing this, the two men could no longer sit still and stood up. Dong Xie said, "Are you sure? This is very light?" When he took the crossbow handed to him by Jiang Ling, he was almost crushed to the ground by the weight.

Jiang Ling traded their plastic guns for her own crossbow. She held the bowstring with two fingers and pulled the trigger with her other hand, effortlessly returning the bowstring to its original position. Then, with one hand, she cocked the crossbow, gestured toward the two men, and gently pulled the bowstring twice with two fingers, like playing with a rubber band. She didn't pull the bowstring to the firing position, simply demonstrating the tension, the curved metal arm swaying up and down with her hand.

The two were silent for a long time after seeing this, then returned to their seats with their plastic guns. In front of this super-strong woman, they were like children playing with toys.

The two men stopped cleaning their guns and stuffed them back into their backpacks. Dong Xie then swallowed hard, tucked his hands, trembling from exerting so much strength, into his arms, and asked carefully, "Ms. Pharmacist? Are you going to the main station as well?"
