Outside the room, the lights were still bright. Chen Xin hid outside the room, listening carefully to what was going on inside. When she saw her husband coming out, her tail immediately stood up high, like a flagpole standing upright on the ground.
"Hubby~Are they all asleep?"
"Hmm!" He Kong brushed away the dark blue hair from Chen Xinqiong's nose and rubbed her shoulders twice. "Shall we sit on the balcony for a while?"
Their apartment wasn't very big, and even a bit too small for a family of five. The distance from the balcony to the secondary bedroom was only two meters. Fortunately, the walls were made of nanomaterials, which provided sufficient sound insulation, so the noise outside wouldn't disturb the inside.
Of course, there was no passion as one might imagine, as they had already been an old couple who had been married for almost eight years.
Chen Xin leaned her back against He Kong's right arm, her legs curled up on the recliner. The left side of her face was dyed red and purple by the neon lights outside the window, and her three-dimensional facial features were beautifully outlined in the light.
Outside, an open-air giant-screen movie was playing. This antique from the last century had been brought out by people. They used the white wall as a screen, and an old film projector, printed last week, was placed on a steel tripod, surrounded by a crowd.
Light and shadows began at the projector, passed through the underground space of the Magic City Central Station, struck the walls, and reflected into the surrounding space. In the slightly turbid air, they produced a Tyndall effect, forming a light cluster resembling a square pyramid.
"Should we consider moving? The kids are growing up so fast." Chen Xin said lazily.
"Don't worry about that. The government now allocates housing, and I have enough points, so I can move to a bigger one at any time. But they are still young now, so I plan to wait for two years until they can go to school, and then move to a house closer to the school." He Kong replied.
"I don't know when we can return to the surface to live. Is the new city up there finished?"
"I heard it's coming soon. But there's no rush. The population is much smaller now than it was back then, so the housing pressure isn't that great. Going to the surface is really just for the novelty. Living anywhere is pretty much the same these days."
"The world has changed so much that I almost forgot about the old days."
"Yeah, who isn't?" He Kong said something against his will.
His memory wandered back to that snowy place again.
He would never forget that dark night when the blizzard stopped, as if someone had pressed the pause button. In those brief four minutes, he experienced several cycles of life and death. Some people survived, while others were buried in the ice and snow.
"416, take the sample back, take your memory back, don't forget it." This was the sergeant's last words.
