After some discussion, the group decided not to transport the harvest back for the time being. The crab paste had already been processed, and at the low temperatures on the surface, it could be stored for half a year without any problems. As for the pork, it might be useful on the way, and the weight was relatively light for two large men.
Jiang Ling waved her hand and paid the fare, treating it as a referral fee for the guides. As expected, a poor family can become rich on the road. Six hundred points might seem like a small amount on the surface, but at the station, it's half a year's income for an average family. She didn't see any problem with that; comparatively speaking, Jiang Ling's fare was relatively low.
Dong Xie was still unconscious, and several people worked together to carry him to the car. According to the agreement, the search team would deposit the injured at a medium-sized station in the north, where they were supposedly equipped to treat these "minor injuries." Jiang Ling bundled Xi Du's belongings with his backpack, leaving them as a keepsake for him when he woke up.
Next is the paralyzed Old Wei. This guy looks good for the time being, but his deeds have been reported by the mole. . . . .
When it was the guide's turn, he told everyone to wait a moment, as he probably had something else to tell them. "The surface route is in my notebook. You can also take a detour underground. There's a wellhead a little west of here, just south of the I-shaped office building. We've painted it yellow. You'll definitely find it."
He supported himself with a crutch and stood up despite the pain. "...Walking underground is also risky. Although we have marked the entire route, there is a lot of water seepage there now. That's why I took you on the surface!"
The group was somewhat pleased to hear there were other routes, but the risks of going underground might be higher than they'd imagined. The guide might not yet know the cause of the water seepage in the tunnel, but the two Countermeasures Bureau investigators knew it all too well. So the Mole asked, "Is that mushroom forest only hallucinogenic?"
"I don't know. I only know that red mushrooms release hallucinogenic spores," the guide replied.
"Are you going to the mushroom forest?" The leader of the search team heard the conversation and was a little excited.
"Yes, I still think it's more feasible to go on the surface. As for hallucinogenic mushrooms, we have standard filter canisters." Jiang Ling answered affirmatively.
"Great! No, I mean, if possible, please make sure to go to the mushroom forest." The search team leader said happily. He asked his teammates to bring out three cylinders and introduced them. "These are oxygen tanks we made ourselves. Those filter canisters can't withstand the hallucinogenic fumes. One tank can support two hours of breathing. We modified the breathing mask to fit the filter canister interface of the protective suit. You see, it's very convenient!"
The flying squirrel came out of the room and asked, "Tell me, what do you want us to do?"
"Hehe~" The burly man touched his head through his helmet and said a little embarrassedly, "It's not a big deal. Just help us find our former teammates... We can also provide a local map! We took pictures of the mushroom forest with a drone. I'll draw the place for you!"
The search team leader found a piece of paper with a map drawn on it from a car and then used a sharp object to poke a hole in a certain place. This place was probably in the southwest of the mushroom forest. For Jiang Ling and the others, it only required a short detour. If everything went well, it would only take an hour to cross the mushroom forest.
"Okay, but we won't bring the bodies out. Do you have any sealed bags?" The flying squirrel looked at the map and accepted the task.
"Let's use this!" The leader found two cylindrical plastic sealed cans.
"How do you have this thing?" Jiang Ling asked curiously.
"Ah? Are you talking about this? We used to be a diving team, but now there is no place to dive, so we can only drive sports cars." The strong man scratched his head.
"By the way, how do we get the things to you?" asked the flying squirrel.
"Tomorrow... tomorrow afternoon, we will wait for you on the ground west of the junction station, right here!" He poked a hole in the map again.
Seeing that everyone had finished their discussion, the guide didn't ask for help. Instead, he limped over to the convoy on crutches. Before leaving, he shouted, "Thank you for saving my life. Next time you ask me to lead the way, I'll give you a 20% discount!"
He is a really good guide.
After the convoy left, Jiang Ling looked at the gradually darkening landscape and asked, "Rest for a night? Or continue on the journey overnight? I'm fine!"
"The energy pack is 60% charged. If you're sure it's okay, let's go!" The flying squirrel replied. Although he didn't want to walk at night, the captain had already given the order.
In fact, even before the war, when mutants were rampant, people did not like to walk at night, not to mention that this time they had to go through a strange forest, and who knows what strange things they might encounter.
It took the three of them over ten minutes to pack their gear. The cylinder weighed over ten kilograms, so Jiang Ling ultimately chose to hang it horizontally across her stomach. The round iron lump was difficult to carry, but thankfully the team provided a shoulder strap.
"We'd better get to NT0201 station before sunrise, otherwise we may not have enough time. Looking at the map, it's a good thing we're not taking a small path. We can just follow the main road and go straight through the mushroom forest." The flying squirrel walked to the isolation cabin door of the temporary resting place, took a deep breath, and then opened the door.
The underground parking lot was completely dark, with only the exterior lights at the parking area still dimly glowing, but they would soon go out. The closer the three of them got to the parking lot exit, the more stressed they felt. It seemed windy outside, which wasn't a good sign. If it snowed heavily, visibility would be significantly reduced.
