A two-kilometer tunnel would require approximately three signal relays. Considering the potential dangers in the tunnel, the Wolf King added two teammates to each relay station. In other words, the number of people actually exploring the tunnel, including Li Wenjia, was four.
Everyone first went to the tents in the center of the camp to collect weapons and equipment, then split up. One group went to take the two Gladiators, while the other group fiercely went to Medical Vehicle No. 3 and loaded the two unfortunate people into two sets of protective suits like potatoes.
They tied the two guides to the hoods of the fighters, ignoring their terrifying screams. The engines of the two fighters roared, and then they twisted and turned away from the small path of the camp.
There is no evening on the surface, and it is only slightly brighter than the real night.
The two Gladiator III all-terrain vehicles quickly left the country road and drove onto a stretch of good roads that had survived the war. Li Wenjia curled up in the back seat of the Gladiator with two other comrades. He let the wind and snow cover his helmet, enjoying this brief moment of peace through the exoskeleton.
As if shifting, they turned a few corners and arrived at the bridge across the river. It was called the Fuma Bridge, but of course, it wasn't the original one. No, I mean, it wasn't newly built after the war. Well, that's hard to explain. Anyway, this bridge was demolished and rebuilt twenty years ago, using the latest technology.
Two objects weighing several tons were speeding across the bridge. There were some raised snow piles scattered on the side of the bridge. Those were the wreckage of vehicles damaged in the war. Some of them might still contain the bodies of the victims, but the advance reconnaissance team was unable to collect their bodies.
According to Li Wenjia's memory, the lower half of the bridge should be six vacuum tracks. He had heard before that the country had built several similar lines. Those trains that could run at supersonic speeds in tubes almost brought the distance between people of all ethnic groups in the country closer to the limit.
The reason for the bridge's survival is obvious: among several nearby cross-river bridges, it is the only one with piers. Those massive gravity-supported piers have remained unmoved through countless nuclear explosions, standing tall and proud over the river like sentinels.
Several dark shadows flashed through the air. They were drones with low-visibility paint. These drones provided temporary navigation, preventing the wolves from getting lost as they advanced in the darkness.
Of course, that was the green mark on Li Wenjia's visor. This guy didn't have such powerful dark vision to see the small black spots moving rapidly in the sky.
The snow and wind were stopping them from advancing. The two fighters braved the erratic winds and pressed forward. In a sense, whoever had named the mission was truly a genius.
The journey of several kilometers passed in a flash. They did not drive the vehicle into the tunnel. Although the tunnel could indeed produce some concealment effects, their car still needed to be used as a relay station.
Before the car even stopped, everyone jumped out, and several team members began to silently guard the surroundings. They coordinated well, and after about a few minutes, someone reported on the communicator that they were ready.
Li Wenjia glanced at the car. They had covered it with several camouflage nets. From a distance, the car and the surrounding equipment blended in with the environment. With luck, the equipment should be intact when they emerged.
Of course, this level of camouflage couldn't fool the mutants. They'd encountered something radio-sense before: a flock of birds. At the cost of considerable equipment, they finally eliminated their nest. Later on, Command gave the flying mutants a wide berth. That's why they said good luck was the key. Those who weren't would be reduced to piles of feces.
"Come down! Hurry up!"
Behind them, the sound of teammates scolding the guide could be heard. Neither Li Wenjia nor the Wolf King stopped their teammates' behavior. In the past, with the military and civilians acting like one family, who knows how much these teammates would have suffered. But now, it could only be said that these two unlucky guys had brought this upon themselves.
They were captured by the Wild Wolf Squad, and it seems that the wolf cubs have not forgiven these two bastards yet.
The two guys were dragged to the front by several people. When they passed Li Wenjia, they fell flat on their faces. The Wolf King stepped forward and signaled the team members who were escorting them to untie their hands.
"Lead the way, or I'll kill you!"
The two men trembled like sieves, nodding in agreement. They had probably seen everyone else's weapons before, otherwise they wouldn't be in such a state.
Soon, the team began to move slowly, and the two team members who served as relay stations stayed where they were.
"Be careful to hide. Report any abnormalities immediately and protect yourself!" said the Wolf King in the communicator.
"Got it!" The two team members answered, found a shelter in the designated area, then squatted down and acted as the sixth.
There's not much to describe the scene in the tunnel. If I had to describe it, it would be empty, dark, and deadly. That's it.
The sound of people's footsteps on the asphalt road could be heard from far away, and they felt that the temperature in the tunnel seemed to be higher, which was very unusual.
"Check the environmental parameters. Something seems odd to me."
"The temperature is zero degrees Celsius and rising. The humidity is thirty percent, an order of magnitude higher than outside. The wind speed is 0.2 meters per second."
"Where does the wind come from? Isn't it blocked?"
"Straight ahead!"
"hidden!"
The wolf king immediately became alert. He raised his hand and made a tactical gesture, asking his teammates behind him to disperse.
