Chapter 13 Unsheathed

"One hundred meters ahead, biological signals detected!"

"What is it?"

"Giant rats! There are lots of them."

"Li Wenjia! Did the guide mention this? Are they actually farming animals, or are they being farmed?"

The crowd spread out further, moving away from the one-way lane in the center of the tunnel and sticking as close to the wall as possible.

"They didn't say how many they had. How could I have known there were so many!"

The noises in the distance grew louder, and the infrared cameras on the visors quickly picked up their heat signature. A vast, swarm of them, perhaps dozens in total, lined the road like a black wave.

The footsteps from next door gradually faded away, and everyone gathered together again. The sound of bolts being pulled could be heard in the team.

"I don't think you need to be nervous." Li Wenjia noticed that everyone was experiencing a stress reaction and tried to relax them. "At least I can guarantee one thing. The tribesmen in the tunnel are rational. Think about it, what are those crazy people you've seen like? They wouldn't specifically train these mutants who act on instinct."
