The apprentice couldn't lead Jiang Ling and the others around the repair shop for long, mainly because he wasn't very good at speaking. If it had been Old Cheng, Jiang Ling might have been willing to explore a few more times. Seeing no way out, the apprentice had no choice but to bite the bullet and lead the others to find Engineer Wang.
"...We have changed everything according to your request! Why are you going back on your word? I told you clearly that you have to pay the points today, otherwise you won't be able to get any of the cars behind!" Looking around, a middle-aged man in work clothes was talking to a group of people.
The apprentice asked Jiang Ling and the others to wait and be patient, and he walked towards the man in work clothes alone. He didn't make any noise along the way, or rather, the noise he made along the way was drowned out by the noise here.
The man in overalls was extremely alert. When the apprentice came even slightly closer, he paused in his conversation. He turned his head and glanced back, immediately catching sight of the furtive apprentice. He couldn't help but frown and asked, "Why are you back so soon? Where's he?"
"Master Wang, those girls are quite powerful. They discovered me after I had only gone halfway around." The apprentice touched his nose, and the oil on his hands dyed his nose gray.
The man in overalls twitched his lips, and he said hurriedly and quietly, "You good-for-nothing! Can't you see I'm still negotiating business here? Hurry up and find them a quiet place!"
"Where are we going?" The apprentice was puzzled. He had never seen a quiet place here.
"Ghost! Garage!" The man in overalls was a little angry. He knocked the apprentice on the forehead and said, "Take them to see the whole car first!"
"Right!" This guy seemed to have suddenly realized something, and instantly remembered many of his former master's tricks. So, amid the yelling and cursing of the workman, he quickly returned to Jiang Ling and the other two.
Jiang Ling leaned against a relatively clean car hull. The smell of engine oil excited her. She had once dreamed of owning her own workshop, kneading various parts by hand and then assembling her own car - this was probably the romance of a man.
"Huff~Huff~Me, huff~Huff~Let's, cough cough, let's go and see the whole car?" The apprentice ran out of breath and interrupted Jiang Ling's beautiful fantasy.
The apprentice led the three to a garage constructed from discarded aluminum. He explained that this was the repair shop's treasure trove. He walked to a pillar in the garage and, using a key he'd found somewhere, unlocked a hanging iron box. Inside, there were numerous buttons and wiring, identical to the distribution box Jiang Ling remembered.
After a sound of metallic friction, the garage's rolling door slowly rose, and the outside light shone into the interior, reflecting several huge car headlights.
What secrets are hidden in the dark garage?
Jiang Ling stayed where he was without moving, and the apprentice operated the "distribution box" again.
The next moment, they only heard a dull "puff" and the yellow light in the garage came on, illuminating the steel behemoth quietly parked inside.
The brightness inside the garage was brighter than outside, and Jiang Ling's pupils narrowed slightly as she adjusted. She quickly entered the secret base and immediately spotted the armored vehicles parked in the second row. She had never seen active equipment this close before; she had only seen three of them from a distance while standing on the balcony.
"That's our factory's most valuable asset!" the apprentice proudly introduced. "It's a multi-purpose automated support vehicle produced before the war. Ordinary people can't operate it; they need an exoskeleton's data core to control it."
These armored vehicles were painted in urban camouflage and stood only two and a half meters tall. Jiang Ling used her telekinesis to examine their material. Clearly, their surface armor wasn't made of metal. She leaned sideways with one hand on the ground to examine the underside of the armored vehicles. She discovered several square slits in the armor, seemingly capable of being opened from the inside.
"The structure of these cars is confidential, and we don't have the authority to open them. But it is said that they are highly automated, and maybe have some kind of artificial intelligence installed." The apprentice walked to Jiang Ling's side, watched her touching the car, and said helplessly.
"Where did you get it from? Shouldn't this kind of tank be stored in a special warehouse?" Jiang Ling asked curiously.
"Um, I don't know. The master didn't tell me, and he didn't let me touch them. But I heard that two people from the Countermeasures Bureau drove the car here specifically. I don't know what they want to do." The apprentice said as he recalled.
Jiang Ling nodded without asking any further questions. She waved outside the warehouse door, called the two white-haired kids in, and asked, "Do you recognize this thing?"
Ruan Danxin took a look and said, "Of course I know it. I've ridden it before! It's so narrow and small inside. If I weren't short, two people wouldn't be able to fit in here." She walked around the chariot, then walked to the middle of the chariot, climbed up through the gap in the armor, and the bewildered apprentice twitched his eyes.
"This is it." She stepped on a circular gap on the top with her foot. "You have to go in from here, and then there is a slanted cylindrical passenger compartment inside. They have to lie down to drive this broken car, which is very tiring~"
"What if this car can't move? What should we do to escape?" Jiang Ling imagined the environment inside the tank and felt a little confused.
"Oh, you mean that? Don't worry! The cockpit of this thing can be ejected. It's just that the impact is quite strong, so you need to wear an exoskeleton to avoid fainting." Ruan Danxin jumped down from the roof and punched the front armor of the armored vehicle, leaving a small dent. "It can be ejected about 300 meters away. That's how I got out."
