Chapter 78 Underwater Training (Part 3)

Entering the exoskeleton remained unchanged from last year, and Jiang Ling successfully activated the specialized exoskeleton armor, numbered 605. After a brief system self-check, she followed the instructor's instructions, raised her right arm forward, and activated the power nozzle on her arm.

The power nozzles are part of the attitude control system, but they can also be controlled independently using system commands.

“Puff!”

Subsonic gases accelerated to 200 meters per second by the high pressure generated by the chemical reaction immediately rushed out from the nozzle, creating a jet about six meters long in the air. The resulting reaction pushed the exoskeleton about 3 centimeters in the counterclockwise direction. Although the torso of the exoskeleton has a certain buffering capacity, this short acceleration still caused the rubber sole of the exoskeleton to wear out two white marks on the ground.

Jiang Ling wasn't particularly sensitive to the speed; she simply felt the exoskeleton was too heavy. It was likely even heavier than an exoskeleton with a dedicated deep-diving module. Considering it would be launched into space and land on Mars, she thought the designers might not yet be sure of astronauts' true needs.

"Well done. If you weren't bound by gravity, you should be spinning at a speed of 2 to 3 revolutions per minute as you move forward. It depends on your weight. The artificial intelligence on the exoskeleton will calculate your relative speed. You just need to have a rough idea in mind." The instructor praised and tapped the tablet several times.

Jiang Ling grew impatient and shouted from inside the exoskeleton, "Report!"

"If you have something to say, tell me quickly." The instructor frowned.

"What should we do next? This exoskeleton's energy balance is a bit low!"

"How much is left?"

"Eighteen percent. I can hear the low-energy alarm." Jiang Ling replied.

"Is that so? Then let's practice changing the energy pack first!" said the instructor.

The exoskeleton's energy packs, resembling larger AA batteries, are located behind the chest armor plate. Replacing the packs can be done either automatically or manually, though the automatic mode can only be used when the arm is attached to the torso and at least one pack still has energy. Manual mode, while more cumbersome, can be used at any time as long as the operator is able to move.

Jiang Ling commanded the system to pop out the energy pack's fixing lock, and then, resisting the sluggish feeling on his arm, he flipped open the outer armor on his chest, revealing the four-in-one slot that was only filled with one energy pack.

"Oh, so that's how it is. If we only pack one, at least we can guarantee it won't be stolen." The instructor immediately understood the reason for the exoskeleton's low energy. He walked to a nearby cargo box and pulled out a plastic box. He took one out of the box, put it in Jiang Ling's right hand, and then patted her shoulder.

Jiang Ling rolled her eyes at him from inside the exoskeleton, then turned the energy pack in the slot counterclockwise. The exoskeleton immediately entered a power-off protection state. She then packed the energy pack in her hand into another slot, restoring the power supply while controlling the robotic arm to take out the original energy pack.

Afterwards, the robotic arm used its three metal fingers covered with a large number of touch sensors to pinch the energy packet, which was several orders of magnitude smaller in size, and placed it accurately and quickly into the plastic box held by the instructor, drawing cheers from the surroundings.

The instructor was very familiar with her operation, so he leaned in and asked, "067, have you used a fourth-generation exoskeleton before? No, I mean, where did you learn it?"

"Want to learn? I'll teach you!" she replied.
