It was not easy to crawl silently on the debris-strewn ground. Fortunately, the bar was not far from the small door to the back kitchen. Qin Zhongquan took a few minutes to move himself into this small dark room. Just as he was about to take a breath, another strong wind blew, and the restaurant door and the entire wall were blown open. The sunlight from outside penetrated the dust that quickly dissipated in the air and illuminated the hall.
The substances used to fill the cracks in the wall were now mixed in the air. They were not only poisonous but also very choking. The people hiding in the kitchen couldn't help coughing, which made Qin Zhongquan instinctively sense the danger.
Without time to think, he quickly closed the small door and moved to the side, as far away from the door as possible. Even though the large movement created new noise, he had no other choice.
The attack spread almost as fast as the sound of footsteps. The door panels and walls had no protection in front of the strange creature's sword, like a hot knife cutting butter. In just a few tenths of a second, Qin Zhongquan's temporary shelter was completely destroyed. The shock wave generated by the sword blade tearing through the air was like a charged punch, shattering the clothes on his back and acting on his flesh and blood body with the same power.
Qin Zhongquan was unsurprisingly sent flying, crashing into a cabinet filled with cutlery. He nearly fainted from the loss of his breath. Five of his ribs were broken, one of which pierced his diaphragm and lodged in a lung, causing excruciating pain with every breath. His eardrum had been ruptured by the close-range sonic boom, and warm blood slowly flowed down his ear canal, followed by tinnitus, dizziness, and nausea.
His vision turned red and then black, and Qin Zhongquan then felt another explosion - or a short and violent vibration - and when he opened his eyes again, he had been dragged outside and received emergency medical assistance.
There were not many survivors around, and even fewer people who were generally intact like him. The doctor who arrived only gave him a dose of painkiller and then went to rescue other injured people.
"Cough, cough, cough—Pooh!" He coughed up a mouthful of blood, tried to conserve his energy, lay flat on his back and looked up at the sky...
That is a terrifying and enviable power!
Above the clouds, two tiny dots of different colors continued to hurt each other, occasionally raining down broken limbs. After another fruitless exchange, the two, both wounded, hovered in mid-air, engaging in a verbal battle.
"Damn Hongling, you seem to be less agile as long as you are in the sky?" Xue Ji's voice was very shrill, reaching the ultrasonic range.
"Tsk, you have all the advantages but nothing good comes to you, you're just a weakling." Hongling's voice came from the vibration of her elytra, and it sounded a little distorted.
"Hongling, let me go. I'll give you half after I'm done. Is that okay?" Xue Ji had no sincerity in negotiating.
"Don't even think about it! Who knows if the returnee in your hand is real? What's more, what the Space Army wants is completely opposite to what the Empire wants. We will have to continue fighting then." Hongling refused emotionlessly.
"Hongling! Don't push your luck! Aren't you afraid that I'll sell him to someone else?"
"Haha, Sister Xue, let me guess, which other awakened ones do you know - your brother? Or your aunt? Or Xiao Xian who just gave up? Who can you sell them to? Who else in this world can take on this big business?" Hongling said.
"Ugh!" Xue Ji was furious. "If you have the guts, if you have the guts, just keep fighting me here! I'm so pissed off! Even if I don't want to be a Returner, I'll never let you go!"
"Okay, don't suddenly disappear from my sight." Hongling slowly descended and took the lead in stopping this meaningless "quarrel".
