Many people saw this meteor that night, but that's perfectly normal. Ever since humans entered the universe on a large scale, countless meteors have been seen almost daily. However, there was something different about this meteor: it left a colorful rainbow in the sky, not the usual golden yellow.
The Crescent finally made an emergency landing south of the Great Lakes in North America, plowing a forty-kilometer-long scarp across the vast plain. But after last night's torrential rain, only a shallow stream remained. From the top of the wreckage, Jiang Ling could see an old, weed-covered asphalt road not far away. The exoskeleton's data core happened to contain relevant information—it was Highway 94, connecting Chicago and Detroit.
It was already four days after the forced landing when she climbed onto the wreckage. After a few days of adaptation, the three people in the cabin were finally able to take care of themselves. She didn't pay special attention to their mental state, but the way they behaved in the morning was already a bit like veterans who had survived the battlefield.
The experience between life and death always makes people grow at the fastest speed, but the prerequisite is that you have to be alive to have the opportunity to grow.
Jiang Ling didn't stay out in the open for long. The surface radiation in Country M's original territory was still too strong. Considering the others in the wreckage, she had to control the radioactive fallout on her body. She had actually come out to launch a drone. The only thing left on the spacecraft was a radio station that could briefly connect to orbital signals. Using this bandwidth to obtain remote sensing support from the satellite was a gross overestimation of this emergency communication device.
Returning to the dim interior of the wreckage, Jiang Ling first entered the decontamination room which was converted from half of the crew cabin.
"How's the situation?" Gu Chen asked, panting heavily, sitting upright in a chair at the other end of the decontamination room. His symptoms of adapting to gravity had not yet subsided.
"The emergency rescue team probably won't be coming, but the group's compensation points have been transferred. You two will each get 14,000, and Xiao Wang will get 20,000. The online information says that other passengers have received compensation of five times the ticket price." Jiang Ling answered while washing herself with a simple shower head.
"So, what about you?"
"I've contacted my colleagues, and we're still going through the legal process, but it's basically a done deal. We'll get at least 50,000 in compensation. My lawyer plans to push for a little more, as he'll get a 24% share." Jiang Ling paused and continued, "Your group seems to be trying to use points to settle everything. I suggest you switch jobs as soon as possible, as the group's top management is planning to take action. To be honest, I know quite a few of them, and I have key evidence."
"Uh, thank you." He whispered, but it was drowned out by the sound of splashing water.
Jiang Ling turned off the water, removed her protective suit, and placed it in a storage compartment on the wall of the makeshift decontamination room. As she pushed open the hatch, she untied her hair and took a bottle of purified water from the cargo box under the makeshift bed. She took a few sips. Beads of sweat covered her skin, and her underwear was almost completely soaked, revealing her graceful figure.
Gu Chen considered himself a gentleman, so he really didn't peek at her at all. He waited until she changed her clothes before continuing to talk: "Then how do we get back?"
"Are you so anxious to go back?"
Gu Chen shrugged and said nothing more.
Jiang Ling shook her head and handed him a freshly charged tablet. "It's pretty easy to get back," she continued. "The nearest settlement is less than a hundred kilometers away. We can just get a car there and drive all the way to the Community's Planetary Immigration Administration office. But you've seen the drone aerial map on the tablet. Do you think this shabby road is navigable given your three current physical conditions?"
