The compartment further forward of the command module was originally used to house a compact long-wave communications module. Thanks to the establishment of the deep space communications network, many ships operating solely within the inner ring have removed this bulky device to save costs, and the Crescent is no exception. Because the civilian version of the ship retains the same structural design, this area is often the safest part of the entire ship. Dual-purpose ships like the Crescent typically use it as a cargo hold, rented out at a high price.
After giving the order, Jiang Ling didn't sit in a daze at the viewport like the captain. Instead, she and the two improvised "strong men" worked together to carry the supplies needed for landing on Earth. Besides food, water, and medicine for survival, they also needed basic mobile communication relay stations, satellite phones, emergency energy supplies, various tools, including weapons and ammunition.
The spacecraft's stockpile of supplies was actually quite limited, especially if it crashed into the ocean or an island. Lacking the necessary data for the ship's modifications, Jiang Ling only calculated a range of possible landing points, unable to pinpoint exactly where it could make an emergency landing. Furthermore, the Songbird-class ship wasn't designed for atmospheric reentry, and its irregular surfaces were easily affected by turbulence. The remaining escape pod might be able to withstand this extreme environment, but it had recently malfunctioned, making it a last resort compared to the ship itself.
The teamwork was quite good. The young man put in a lot of effort, the flight attendant was resilient, and the captain lent a hand at the last moment. After two hours and fifty minutes, they finally moved and sorted all the supplies and gathered in the command module to await the final moment.
Captain Gu once again sat in his cherished seat, intending to personally see his ship off for the final time. Jiang Ling secured herself to his left co-pilot seat and turned on the ship's public channel broadcast. The remaining two men squeezed into the vacant crew seats, their expressions alternating between excitement and nervousness.
"We have already reached the upper atmosphere. According to tradition, you can now speak freely. Say whatever you want to say quickly. Maybe these will be your last words." Jiang Ling got off to a good start.
Comrade Xiao Wang was quite excited and was the first to chime in: "I, this is my first time in this cabin! If, I mean if, I die, my life will definitely be worth it!"
"Stop being so stubborn and say something nice." Gu Chen finally revealed his true nature.
"Then I'll do it!" Jiang Xinyi curled up. "This is the first time I've encountered something like this, and I originally thought I'd never encounter such a thing. Starting from the second cycle today, I felt like I was in a hallucination. First, I ran into relatives I hadn't seen in years among the passengers, then I encountered a thrilling emergency response at work, and now the case study in the training materials has become a reality. I don't think I will ever forget this day."
She paused, then continued with a tearful tone, "I felt some vibrations, and the spacecraft's keel was roaring. It was a real dragon, and I could feel its power. It was traveling through the atmosphere at 11 kilometers per second, faster than the meteors I saw when I was in school on Mars. Woohoo, aunt, look up at the sky, I'm going to become a meteor..."
