Li Wenjia sighed and put the terminal back in its place.
He put on his clothes, put on a weapons belt, and then buckled the machete from under the bed to his waist. He examined himself in the mirror on the wall of the carriage. After thinking for a few seconds, he took a pulse submachine gun from the equipment box on the other side and slung it across his back.
That scimitar was one of the two he'd acquired in Rat Village two days prior. Changgu gave it to Li Wenjia as a gift for his trip. He'd said, "A good hunter deserves a good weapon, and you're more than just a hunter."
Li Wenjia didn't understand what Changgu meant by "more than that." He remembered that he had disguised himself very well, acting like a studious child from beginning to end. Could it be that these tribesmen all had the ability to read his mind and could see through everything he was thinking?
He opened the car door and walked into the bright tunnel.
The chandeliers in the tunnel were installed later. They are powered by several supply trucks in turn, and now they can basically ensure 24-hour lighting.
Along the tunnel path, the Rat Village people had placed some flower pots filled with herbs they had collected. Most of these herbs were not in the expedition team's database, and some researchers were squatting nearby, carefully observing and recording them.
They had never before developed such a close relationship with a tribe of wanderers. Although this relationship was mainly based on barter, it was still a close relationship.
The air in the tunnel has improved considerably; the logistics department has built a self-priming stove specifically for Rat Village. The quality of life in Rat Village has also improved dramatically. In Li Wenjia's opinion, their smiles must be genuine.
If we ignore the essence of this place, we can probably describe the changes in this tunnel as "changing with each passing day."
The huge protective gate at the south exit has been basically completed. The expedition team plans to transform this place into a long-term base, so their standards are relatively high. Most of the materials used for the protective gate are made by the expedition team themselves.
Li Wenjia walked around in the tunnel but couldn't find Lao Ma's command vehicle. He had no choice but to try his luck at the logistics department.
He took a deep breath, pulled a colleague over, and without further ado, asked directly, "Excuse me, do you know where Ma Dongsheng and Commander Ma are now?"
"have no idea."
"have no idea."
"Fuck, leave me alone! Find someone to look for it in the supply truck!"
The people in the logistics department are very busy. If you disturb them and they don't give you a good look, you're already considered to have a good temper.
Li Wenjia looked for several people one by one. Although he was almost beaten with a red-hot iron rod, one thing did remind him - he could ask Adi if he wanted to find someone.
Adi was a subroutine within the tactical terminal's artificial intelligence, and normally only served as a waiter. But it was still part of the artificial intelligence, so asking it might reveal more relevant information.
Li Wenjia stopped in front of a supply truck, feeling like a fool. This guy was still on the list, so naturally he was denied entry by the program.
"Hey, hey, don't block the road. Don't stand at the door if you have nothing to do!" someone urged from behind him.
"Wait, are you going in? Do me a favor!"
"What's the matter? If you have something to say, please speak quickly. I'm in a hurry to eat."
"Please ask Adi where the old horse has gone, the horse commander!"
"You mean Lao Ma? Didn't he go south? He went there early in the morning. The coordinates... should be 1.5 degrees south by west, 80 kilometers. It seems to be near a small county town before the war. There will be two supply trucks going there in the evening, and you can take a ride." These cooking machines obviously knew more than Adi, and they told Li Wenjia everything they had found out in a few words.
I see.
Li Wenjia touched his chin, turned around and left.
It's true that having a commander march alongside the troops is a way to boost morale, but realistically speaking, in the current situation, it's courting death.
Lao Ma's condition was truly serious. The team doctor said he was experiencing hallucinations. Although he concealed it well, anyone with a discerning eye could see he was mentally unstable. He was clearly living alone in the command vehicle, so why did he need to prepare duplicates of everything?
Li Wenjia didn't intend to leave him there alone, so he went to borrow a Fighter, took a few hundred kilograms of supplies, and went to that location alone.
The evening weather was pleasant, with only a slight breeze. He first followed the road cleared by the earlier reconnaissance team, heading south for 40 kilometers. When he came across a blockade, he endured a few bumps and jolts, descending from the collapsed oncoming lane to the dirt road above.
On the snow-covered dirt road, there were still traces of tire tracks left by the troops on the move. These tracks only lasted for five kilometers before being manually erased.
Li Wenjia knew they were in a dangerous area, so he increased the speed to 60 miles per hour. The bumpy road caused the shock absorbers to make a teeth-grinding squeak, but he gritted his teeth and endured the bumps.
He continued driving forward for a while, turning a few corners, and the same wheel tracks appeared again. There was a large pit on the side of the road, and a burnt-out chariot lay overturned in it. There were a few footprints around it, so there must have been no casualties.
"Be careful of mines."
Li Wenjia was frightened for a moment, but luckily he was walking in the middle of the road.
It took him three hours to walk this distance, and after reaching the location, it took him several more hours to find their camp.
The atmosphere in the camp was oppressive. Beneath the tent, several combat staff gathered around a tactical terminal. A table-like device simulated a known holographic topographic map. A red curved band hovered above the map, encompassing the vast area below it. Beyond the curved band, several small green flags rested on the terrain.
