"Hey, why are there no seat belts!" Jiang Ling shouted.
"They've all been demolished!" Master Wang replied.
"You fucking idiot!" Jiang Ling realized she'd been tricked and cursed. She looked around and quickly found the wrinkled seatbelt, squeezed like a pickled mustard green, between the seat and the armrest.
She fastened herself properly with the seat belt based on her experience and tried to start the old car again.
She carefully stepped on the accelerator, and this time the same thing didn't happen. She fumbled to adjust the power of the two engines, causing her chariot to move and stop, barely completing a turn.
The tank was indeed different from the car she was used to. The field of view was too narrow, and she had to rely entirely on her sense of direction to identify the direction. She felt that she would definitely not be able to drive such a car. I really don't know how other time travelers drive tanks. This kind of driving skill is not as simple as one plus one!
"Engineer Wang!" Jiang Ling shouted, "Why is it getting hotter in the car?"
"What?" Master Wang pretended not to hear. "If you're hot, just take it off. It's no big deal!"
"Engineer Wang! There's smoke outside the observation window! Also! The left engine seems to be stopped!" Jiang Ling yelled again. She felt that the tank had been shifting to the left, and now it seemed that only the right track was still moving.
Before Jiang Ling finished speaking, the two people in the vehicle felt a sudden vibration on the left side, as if they had hit something again. After a while, the right track slipped, and the tank finally came to a halt. At the same time, a large amount of black and gray smoke billowed from Jiang Ling's left side, choking her and making her cough.
The wheezing of the engine finally stopped, and the two heard shouts from outside: "Fire! Fire!"
Jiang Ling subconsciously unbuckled her seat belt, supported herself with her hands on the seat to pull her legs out from underneath, then stood on the driver's seat and stuck half of her body out of the sealed cabin door above.
The tank had collided with the front right side of another tank of the same model. The front fender was severely warped, and the rear armor was covered in wrinkles. To Jiang Ling's left, thick smoke billowed from the gap in the side, and flames danced on the surface of the leaking fuel on the ground.
"Hey, I can't unfasten my seat belt!" Master Wang's voice came from below Jiang Ling.
Jiang Ling retreated back into the chariot and quickly checked the man in work clothes tied to the back seat. She found that the buckle of the seat belt had been deformed by the impact just now.
"Let go of your hands." She signaled the middle-aged man in work clothes to relax, then grabbed the belt that trapped him and pulled the seat belt off the seat.
The two men didn't waste any time and jumped off the chariot before the fire got bigger.
The fire alarm soon sounded, and Jiang Ling and the other two were escorted outside the warehouse by the workers. Watching the workers carrying fire extinguishers in and out of the warehouse, Jiang Ling realized she had done something truly terrible. Even if the warehouse was filled with nearly scrapped vehicles, her sheer haste to destroy four of them at once might mean she'll never be able to drive again.
"Why are you still here?" Master Wang, who was directing the firefighting, walked out of the warehouse, his body already blackened by smoke.
"Inside..." Jiang Ling originally planned to ask about the situation inside, but after hesitating for a long time, she couldn't ask any questions. In the end, she had to ask Master Wang for his opinion on her driving skills.
"A mess!" That was the answer.
"You'd better hire a driver. I will tell Lao Cheng about this." Master Wang said.
Jiang Ling said nothing as he walked to the military supply warehouse to pick up the car.
This time, the person leading the way was the little boy Shen Zi, and Jiang Ling fell behind.
The gap between dreams and reality was too great, and Jiang Ling was greatly shocked. She had naively thought that she could quickly learn to drive the chariot. Now, looking back, this so-called old-fashioned chariot might be considered high-tech to her.
While it's said that the more advanced a product's technology, the more incompetent its methods, that saying only applies to civilian products. Military products differ significantly from civilian ones, and a fool-proof operating system would never appear on a military product. Anyone could use it, and who knows what kind of trouble it would cause.
In the end, Master Wang didn't mention compensation. It seemed that Fatty Cheng's face was still very effective. Of course, it was more likely that the 10% unknown benefit promised by Fatty Cheng had an effect. After all, in Jiang Ling's opinion, this Master Wang had some business acumen.
The entrance to the military depot was right next to the sixth block, which was the seventh block. It only took about ten minutes to walk from here. Normally, you would have to queue up to get supplies here, but it was almost early morning, and it was during the shift change, so there were fewer people here.
Soon, the warehouse manager on duty turned his gaze to Jiang Ling and the other two. A long table was placed in front of Jiang Ling. The place was very simple, somewhat like a makeshift tent for a community free clinic.
The warehouse manager on duty here generally only recognized cards, not people. So after Shen Zi handed over the plastic card, he hesitated for a moment before using his communicator to check the situation. "Hey! Wait here! They said two people are looking for you." The warehouse manager placed the card back in Shen Zi's hand and casually pointed to a public seat nearby.
The three of them sat on the chairs and waited for a while, and two soldiers in camouflage uniforms walked up to them.
Neither of them was very tall, and compared to the average height of the nutrient-rich people in this world, they were a drag. However, after Jiang Ling had seen the interior of the chariot, she now felt that being shorter might be an advantage.
