However, Jiang Ling did not ask the embarrassing question in the end. She jumped out of the sealed cabin door with her head held high.
In order to obtain the best view, the driver's seat of this type of tank is designed to be in the middle, and the co-pilot's seat is moved behind the driver's seat. The most important equipment of the entire tank is installed on both sides of the driver's seat, safely protected by multi-layer composite armor.
There should have been a fire control system in the deputy's position, but the tank had clearly been disarmed, leaving only an empty shell. Fortunately, its engine hadn't been removed, so it was barely functional.
The space inside the tank was quite narrow. When Jiang Ling got into the driver's seat, she was hit in the chest by several joysticks. However, the levers could be shaken, so she used her telekinesis to slightly shift them.
Master Wang didn't notice Jiang Ling's superpowers, but he could still see her awkwardness, so he said, "Haven't you seen the old-fashioned ones? They're actually very simple!" He stood up, hunched over, and pointed a finger at the instrument panel and joystick on Jiang Ling's chest, explaining, "This is the tachometer, this is the speedometer, and this is the horizontal attitude display. The top row are all reflective observation windows. Use these levers to fine-tune the angle and brightness. The left and right observation windows are on both sides, and there are also the ones in the back..." He patted the backrest, motioning Jiang Ling to turn her head, and then pulled a handle behind the seat. "The rear observation window easily blocks the view, so it's designed to be hidden. But most of the time it's not used."
"What's that underneath?" Jiang Ling stretched out her foot and stepped on the pedals below the dashboard. She had discovered there were five pedals, and she had no idea what they corresponded to.
"From left to right, left track brake and accelerator, reverse gear, right track accelerator and brake." Master Wang instantly listed a series of dishes.
"I understand the accelerator and brake, but what is a reverse device?" Jiang Ling fell into a cognitive blind spot.
"Well, the tank has two power systems. The lower one is the mechanical control system. Just press the reverse lever lightly until you hear a click, and you can feel the vibration. Pressing it all the way down resumes the forward motion. Pressing it all the way down right from the start won't help," Master Wang explained. "The gearshift and parking brake are on your armrests, one on each side."
"What about the other one?" This time she didn't get the point.
"It's been dismantled," Master Wang replied confidently. "There's another electronic control system for the assistant. The original one was damaged by the electromagnetic pulse from the nuclear war."
"Ah, this..." Jiang Ling was bored, so she had to change the subject, "Then how do we start it? I don't see any keyhole here."
Master Wang smiled. He bent down, climbed over the protective case next to Jiang Ling, and moved to her left front. He then removed a zigzag tractor rocker from the frame to Jiang Ling's left. He said regretfully, "There was one more, but unfortunately someone borrowed it and never returned it."
As he spoke, he moved closer to Jiang Ling's legs and pulled open a sliding cover on the device's protective case, revealing the joystick connector inside. "Here it is. Try installing it?" The man in work clothes turned his head with difficulty. His current posture was very uncomfortable.
"Don't release the handbrake, give it a little accelerator... Yes, shake it faster! Hurry up, try harder!" Master Wang encouraged.
Starting the engine in the iron coffin from this cramped driver's seat was a struggle. The space reserved for the rocker and one arm was barely enough for reciprocating motion. Jiang Ling also had to control the force of the rocker; the rocker in her hand couldn't withstand her immense force.
"Thump, thump, thump, thump~" A puff of black smoke suddenly spurted out from the left side of the top of the tank, followed by the harsh and regular sound of mechanical operation, which resounded throughout the warehouse.
"Hahaha~" Master Wang's unrestrained laughter also resounded inside the tank. For a moment, even the noise of the engine was temporarily covered up. "There is another one on the right, and it is used in the same way!" He shouted loudly, and only at this volume could you hear clearly what he said.
After a while, a thick smoke also blew out from the right side of the top, and the sound of the two engines running together made the empty room lively.
"Hurry, hurry, release the handbrake and shift into first gear!" Master Wang sat back in the passenger seat, strapped himself to it with a three-point safety belt, and then grabbed the internal bracket on the side.
"I can't shift!" Jiang Ling pulled the gear lever on the armrest back, then lightly stepped on the accelerator, but the chariot did not move at all.
"Clutch! Clutch! Press the button on the pole!" Master Wang's loud voice came from behind her.
Two seconds later, Jiang Ling and Master Wang felt a push from behind. The old-fashioned chariot suddenly rushed forward like a wild bull out of control, and then crashed hard into another chariot in front of it.
Jiang Ling was not wearing a seat belt, and at that moment, she hit her head on the dashboard in front of her, but her head was relatively strong, so this time it was the dashboard that suffered.
"Wow~" Master Wang didn't mind the trouble and had no intention of reminding Jiang Ling. He sat in the back and shouted loudly, making a series of strange and meaningless noises.
"Oh my god!" Jiang Ling pushed herself back into the driver's seat and tried to reverse the chariot. This time, the sudden acceleration once again pressed her against the damaged dashboard. Before she could adjust, another teeth-grinding sound of metal twisting was heard—and she was pushed back into the driver's seat by her own inertia.
Jiang Ling, who was knocked unconscious by inertia, lay on the seat for a long time before she recovered. Only then did she realize that there was no seat belt on the seat.
