Chapter 26 Facing Desire

Times had indeed changed. Jiang Ling had once again arrived in an unfamiliar era. This wasn't a good thing, but it wasn't necessarily bad either. This era was far better than her initial one, and far better than the ones she'd encountered along the way. Even if there wasn't actually any comparison between eras, she could still make this analogy. But in that moment, she remembered Ruan Danxin's words: don't try to adapt, maintain a distance, and become a bystander.

So Jiang Ling chose to endure and left the story of "disaster and rescue" to everyone present, but did not leave her own figure.

Amidst the chaos, she observed that the priority wasn't rescuing the wounded, but rather repairing the damaged cabin. Those first to arrive, including the reserve instructors and those in protective gear who arrived later, all used their own methods to find and repair breaches, disregarding the wounded nearby, even within reach. Their actions made sense. Ensuring a stable living environment is the foundation of any rescue effort. Between saving a few lives and saving a large number, choosing most is a rational decision.

Afterward, the injured were quickly categorized into four levels of severity: mild, moderate, severe, and critical. They were treated with various emergency measures and sent in different directions. No dead were found during this process. Perhaps, in this era, the old methods of identifying the living and the dead were no longer used. In most cases, those who had just lost consciousness, stopped breathing, or even had their heads shattered into pieces had a high probability of being saved. Combined with what she had seen before, she finally concluded that perhaps saving the ship first was the "correct" approach.

The remaining unharmed individuals emerged last, and the relatively narrow hatchway was free of crowding, allowing the final evacuation to proceed smoothly. Wang Wuji passed Jiang Ling without a word, simply waving his blood-stained right hand before departing with his comrades. She didn't stop them, knowing that countless reports and presentations awaited the chief instructor, and that he would be busy afterwards.

After the crowd left, the lighting in the passage gradually dimmed, leaving only the area where Jiang Ling had lingered lit. Sometimes the light didn't bring openness, but rather an indescribable silence and solitude.

Ruan Danxin is right, but being a bystander comes at a price, and that price is loneliness.

Only a truly extraordinary person can observe the changes in the world with a cold eye, but this is a bit difficult for Jiang Ling. She is not a master who pursues transcendence, on the contrary, she is actually a worldly person who longs for recognition from others.

She rubbed the middle finger of her right hand again, and then her mind moved, as if she thought of something, and then she operated the "ring" awkwardly, turned on its holographic projection display mode, and entered Lin Yi's communication code into it.

"Hello? Lin Yi - I'm..." Jiang Ling dialed the first holographic communication after her resuscitation, which was also the first holographic communication in her life.

"I'm here!" Lin Yi seemed to be still working at this time, but her expression of surprise and joy had betrayed her.

"How have you been lately? I haven't had time to give you..." Jiang Ling briefly explained her recent situation.

"I know, I know! All hibernators are very busy after they wake up." Lin Yi seemed to be used to it. She listened to her patiently and comforted her from time to time.

Finally, Jiang Ling finally said what she had always wanted to say but couldn't: "Lin Yi, let's go on a date?"
