The dormitory building was unlocked, and Xia Chuhe put his hand on the doorknob.
She didn't push the door open, but turned around and walked back to the stairs.
Walking through the quiet dormitory building, even with night vision, Xia Chuhe felt uneasy.
Whenever Xia Chuhe heard the murmurs of a sleeper or the creaking of the door as someone turned over in bed, his heart would skip a beat.
Xia Chuhe held up three fingers beside him, praying to God to bless everything to go smoothly.
Xia Chuhe stealthily made his way to the large iron door between the third and fourth floors, melted the small lock with flames, and tiptoed into the fourth floor.
The fourth floor has fewer rooms but larger areas, suggesting that the foremen's living conditions are much better than the workers'.
Xia Chuhe squinted at the lock through the crack in the door, silently chanting in his mind, "Investigate things thoroughly, strive for self-improvement, materialism, fearlessness," afraid that he would meet the blood-red eyes inside the door at any moment.
Fortunately, there were no red eyes inside the door, only a cold and ruthless lock, coldly keeping Xia Chuhe out.
Xia Chuhe tried to use the same trick again, but before the flames could reach the lock, a piece of the wooden door was charred black.
Left with no other choice, Xia Chuhe had to temporarily abandon his idea of stealing the elevator card.
Having found nothing, Xia Chuhe walked out of the fourth floor and saw that the door was missing a lock. He had a sudden inspiration, took out a similar-looking new lock from the farm, and locked the iron door with a "snap".
Having done something wrong, Xia Chuhe suddenly felt a surge of courage, became fearless, and happily set off.
It's so nice not to do anything inhumane; apart from my feet hurting, I feel comfortable all over.
The dormitory was not far from the factory, and Xia Chuhe, despite his limp, walked quite slowly.
Upon entering the factory, Xia Chuhe habitually turned into the women's changing room, where a dark shadow flashed past in the mirror.
Xia Chuhe froze.
No, why bother changing into work clothes when we're sneaking into the factory at night? Let's just go straight in.
Xia Chuhe left the locker room, casually knocking over the mirror, which was quite frightening.
As Xia Chuhe stepped onto the stairs, before he even reached the second floor, he heard soft rustling and giggling sounds coming from the workshop.
Xia Chuhe stopped and flicked a small flame between his fingertips. The sense of security the flame gave Xia Chuhe was negligible, almost insignificant.
Xia Chuhe thought of the lively animals on the farm—chickens, ducks, geese, dogs, cows, sheep, horses, pigs, and birds—but no, they were too noisy.
After eliminating several possibilities, Xia Chuhe took out the hummingbird and the little black snake, and casually put the dragon egg in his pocket, just in case it hatched. After all, it was a dragon, an auspicious creature.
The dragon egg was taken away, and the old hen, who had been brooding for too long, almost got stuck in the nest and couldn't jump out.
Xia Chuhe examined the dragon egg, but it seemed to have remained unchanged.
As before, the hummingbird nuzzled Xia Chuhe's ear affectionately and perched obediently on her shoulder.
The little black snake bit Xia Chuhe gently, looking somewhat aggrieved, and then wrapped itself tightly around Xia Chuhe's wrist.
Xia Chuhe scratched the snake's head reassuringly: "It's too tight."
The newly hatched black snake could only wrap around a finger, but now it can wrap around a wrist.
The little black snake squeezed Xia Chuhe hard before slowly releasing its force.
With his beloved pet by his side, Xia Chuhe felt much more at ease.
There was glass on the workshop door, so you could roughly see what was inside without going in. Xia Chuhe poked his eyes out and pressed them against the glass.
The workshop was filled with pale, fleshy bodies, making one dizzy and unable to bear looking at them a second time.
Xia Chuhe shrank back under the glass and rubbed his face.
The hummingbird repeatedly played the fleeting glimpse it had just seen for Xia Chuhe, forcing Xia Chuhe to watch this almost frozen scene.
Upon closer inspection, Xia Chuhe noticed several oddities in the image.
First, there's the degree of solidification of the human body. At first glance, the image appears normal, but in reality, most of the human figures are in a semi-solid, semi-illusory state, some even so faint as to be transparent, as if they would dissipate with a gust of wind.
Secondly, there were the tiny figures on the assembly line. Although the hummingbird was only playing a one-second video repeatedly, Xia Chuhe still managed to capture tiny figures moving back and forth on the assembly line.
During the day, the little figures on the assembly line all lie obediently, letting people install and manipulate them. But now they twist and turn, doing whatever they want, completely out of line.
Xia Chuhe suppressed a faint, inappropriate sense of shame and peered into the workshop.
All the human figures in the workshop stood motionless, while the little figures ran back and forth. Because of their short legs, Xia Chuhe had to look carefully to spot their movements.
There are six assembly lines in the workshop.
At this moment, there were no human bodies in front of two of the production lines, but piles of chocolate parts, such as internal organs, fingers, and nipples.
A group of tiny people crowded in front of the mountain of organs, picking and choosing.
The little people who are missing internal organs look for internal organs; the little people who are missing arms or legs look for arms and legs; and some little people will open their bodies and freely stuff things inside until they can't stuff anything in anymore.
The little creatures were very quiet, their movements were extremely joyful, and Xia Chuhe couldn't hear what they were doing. She only wished she could put the hummingbird in, record a clear video, and then take it back.
However, considering the size ratio between the little man and the hummingbird, the hummingbird completely loses its concealment in front of the little man.
The other four assembly lines, which housed human figures, continued to operate. The tiny figures stood on the lines, touching the workers in front of them again and again. The workers who were touched faded at a speed imperceptible to the naked eye.
If it weren't for the fact that the little figure touched her so many times, Xia Chuhe would hardly be able to see any changes in the human body. She couldn't help but focus her gaze on the body with the faintest human figure.
A strange feeling rose in Xia Chuhe's heart.
During the day, the factory is where humans process tiny people, and humans also steal and eat the tiny people.
At night, the factory is completely turned upside down; tiny figures are repairing themselves, absorbing something from the human spirit. The assembly line carries these tiny figures, much like tiny figures processing human bodies.
The faintest figure was touched four more times before finally disappearing completely.
Xia Chuhe saw that where the figure disappeared, there were several piles of body parts belonging to the little man.
Xia Chuhe frowned and scanned the other people, and a familiar face came into view—the face of the middle-aged woman.
Xia Chuhe immediately looked around and found his eldest sister, then...
Do I exist among these people?
