"A-Luo, it's me..."

Ning Qiluo woke up that night.

The first thing she said after opening her eyes was, "Save her, save her..."

"Who to save?"

Ning Qiluo wasn't sure if it was her imagination, but she seemed to hear Jiang Yingchi's voice. She opened her eyes and then closed them again, tears streaming down her face and onto the white pillow.

She cried silently, overcome with grief.

A warm, dry fingertip wiped away her tears.

She slowly pulled her hand out from under the blanket and grasped the hand that had been wiping away her tears, her voice choked with sobs: "You don't want me anymore... Why don't you want me anymore..."

The voice was so sorrowful.

Those standing by the bed were heartbroken to hear this.

She was not fully conscious and kept muttering, "You're right... I was too cowardly. Actually, you're right about everything..."

"Hold on to me! I'll save you, I promise I'll save you..."

"sorry……"

She cried even harder.

Tears streamed down her face, soaking a large part of her pillow.

The man's strong arms lifted her up, encircling her in his embrace. His arm stroked her back, his chin gently resting on her forehead, as he softly murmured her name, "A-Luo, it's me..."

"Did you hear that? It's me."

Ning Qiluo was in a daze.

She was briefly awake, but quickly fell asleep again. This time she slept very soundly, probably because the embrace made her feel especially safe.

Jiang Yingchi held her in that position for a very long time, until his body was stiff. Ning Fengmian couldn't bear to watch any longer, so she had Qi Xiangchen forcibly separate the two and take Jiang Yingchi's place.

...

The empty corridor was exceptionally quiet.

Until the sound of soft, slow footsteps could be heard.

Ning Fengmian walked in front, and Jiang Yingchi walked behind.

The scene in the corridor features a hanging window. Ning Fengmian stops at the hanging window, where rows of locust trees stand. In the summer, the tender green buds of the locust trees are almost lush, and curious branches seem to want to peek in through the open hanging window.

“I know everything you’ve done for my daughter. The reason I asked you to come wasn’t out of gratitude, but because I know Luo Luo needs you a lot. I need to make that clear.”

Ning Fengmian turned around as he spoke.

She looked at Jiang Yingchi standing opposite her. Before coming, she had given simple treatment to the wound on her forehead, probably to avoid being suspected of playing the victim.

On the way to Sun City, I knelt all the way to Ganden Monastery and performed full-body prostrations.

All she wanted was for her daughter to live a long and healthy life...

She couldn't comment on this deep affection.

She had never liked her son-in-law and even tried to break him up with her daughter... but in the end, it was all for nothing.

A marriage ordained by heaven is not something that mortals like her can easily break up.

In the end, Ning Fengmian believed those words.

"Thanks."

Jiang Yingchi's thanks were also a response to what he had just said.

"You're welcome," Ning Fengmian said.

At this moment, Ning Fengmian thought to himself, Jiang Yingchi's taciturnity and his daughter's liveliness are truly a perfect complement.

Whether they are a good match or not can be put aside for now; what matters are the things she has always cared about.

As Jiang Yingchi holds a high position, he is often not in control of his own destiny. In addition, given the age difference, she is very protective of her daughter and is always worried that Luo Luo will suffer if she has disagreements with Jiang Yingchi in the future.

There are so many things I'm worried about, it's impossible to list them all.

"Regardless of what the future holds, I won't interfere in your affairs for now. I don't want to say anything more about the rest; after all, what happens in the future is a matter for the future. However, can I discuss something with you?"

Ning Fengmian spoke these words in a calm tone and with a gentle demeanor.
