Chapter 21 Call Me By My Name, We're Not Acquainted

In this day and age, no one complains about having too much money. Upon hearing about the grand plan to make money, Liu Hongju put away her complaints.

"Make money? Make money in what way?"

Ji Xia and He Qiuying exchanged a smile. Just then, a customer entered the store, so they told her to go back to the warehouse to take off her clothes before they talked.

After she took off her clothes and came out, her third outfit was also taken. Ji Xia apologized to the other customer and asked them to come back tomorrow.

Liu Hongju looked at her two colleagues suspiciously. After the customer left, Ji Xia and He Qiuying revealed their plan.

Hearing that Ji Xia and her cousin made the clothes overnight, and that after deducting costs, the profits from selling the clothes at the supply and marketing cooperative would be split equally among the three of them, Liu Hongju was immediately tempted.

Of the four outfits, three were taken away, and the fourth is still in her possession, which she is reluctant to part with, otherwise it might be gone too.

With such a popular new style, selling four sets a day, or one hundred and twenty sets a month, wouldn't the extra income earned be two or three times higher than the salary?

Even if it's not two or three times the salary, it's still a pleasant surprise.

Liu Hongju was secretly delighted, but also a little embarrassed, and said, "Xia draws the designs and makes the clothes, Qiuying sells them to customers, and I don't do anything. How can I share the profits with you?"

"Alright, we're all friends, let's not talk about these things. If you feel embarrassed, I'll write it down. When Qiuying is soliciting customers, keep an eye on things when you have time. Also, do this secretly, and don't let Director Liu know."

He Qiuying chimed in, "Besides, since you enjoy chatting with customers, you can also recommend them to buy this."

Liu Hongju was just being modest; of course, she couldn't bear to give up this opportunity to make money, and upon hearing this, she patted her chest and agreed.

The three of them reached a consensus and kept the same story, insisting that it was a new model that a friend brought from Shanghai, and that they put it on the supply and marketing cooperative for resale because there were too many of them.

The fourth set of new clothes was purchased by Liu Hongju in less than half an hour, with a young woman who was about to get married. Feeling that she was also useful, Liu Hongju was relieved.

The four sets sold for 72 yuan each, with a profit of 12 yuan. Ji Xia originally intended to split the profit among the three of them.

However, He Qiuying knew that Ji Xia didn't have much money, so she let her use it for working capital. The daily profit was recorded in a notebook, and the accounts were settled once a week.

Liu Hongju had no objections. She heard that she had borrowed money from He Qiuying yesterday to buy cloth, and even took out fifteen yuan for her to prepare more.

Ji Xia thanked the two for their thoughtfulness and politely declined Liu Hongju's money.

Seventy-odd yuan could buy about forty-eight feet of fabric, but Sun Xiaoyu couldn't finish making it in a day.

She bought more of the four colors of fabric she bought yesterday, and also took a day off to go to the bookstore to buy some stiffer cardstock.

Newspapers are too soft and not blank, so drawing layouts is not very convenient.

When she got off work in the evening, He Qiuying and Liu Hongju saw that she had prepared too many things, so they helped her deliver them to the Ji family's courtyard.

Sun Xiaoyu had finished making the four dresses for today. Seeing that there were large pieces of fabric with stains, she washed them and hung them out to dry in a whole row in the yard.

Seeing Ji Xia return with two unfamiliar women, she looked somewhat nervous.

Ji Xia introduced them with a smile: "This is my cousin Sun Xiaoyu. She returned to the city from her time as an educated youth and doesn't have a job for the time being. I saw that she's quite good at sewing, so I asked her for help."

Upon hearing that this was Ji Xia's cousin, Liu Hongju immediately took Sun Xiaoyu's hand warmly: "So you're my cousin! You are indeed beautiful and elegant. Xia kept praising you in front of us!"

Upon hearing this, Sun Xiaoyu smiled shyly and shook her head awkwardly: "I'm not as good as my cousin says. All I can do is some farm work."

"You make clothes so well. Just by looking at your hands, I can tell you're a hardworking girl."

Liu Hongju loves to boast, and when she sincerely praises someone, few people can resist.

Before long, Sun Xiaoyu was coaxed by her and, blushing, led her to see the four dresses that had been made that day.

The dress is more fitted at the waist than yesterday's suit, with a ruffled collar, a large skirt, and a thin belt tied in the middle, which makes her waist look even slimmer.

Liu Hongju tried it once and couldn't help but exclaim, "No, I can't resist, I want one. I'll pay for it."

Ji Xia chuckled: "Alright, let's do it ourselves. We're not worried about not having new clothes. Let's start making them. We'll keep one sample for each garment and then divide the samples among the four of us, deducting the cost from that."

Upon hearing this, Liu Hongju realized it made sense and finally reluctantly changed out of the dress.

Before long, she found a few more nice things: a hair accessory made of scraps of cloth and elastic bands, and several hair clips made of scraps of cloth and hairpins.

Liu Hongju, clutching the hair clip, asked curiously what was going on. She then learned that Sun Xiaoyu had nothing better to do and had made it according to the pattern Ji Xia had drawn the night before.

In fact, Ji Xia only drew two patterns, but Sun Xiaoyu made a total of six. Her dexterity was much better than Ji Xia had imagined.

That evening, Liu Hongju and He Qiuying stayed at Ji Xia's house for dinner and helped out for half the night, making three more dresses before reluctantly leaving.

Ji Xiaman brought the seven dresses to the supply and marketing cooperative, thinking it would take a day or two to sell them.

But not long after they opened the door, a group of young girls came to visit.

The leader was the little girl who had bought clothes yesterday, followed by three friends. They rushed into the supply and marketing cooperative and immediately locked their eyes on He Qiuying.

Just as He Qiuying took out a rag to wipe the dust off the glass counter, she saw several young girls rush up to her.

"Comrade, you mentioned the new dress yesterday, right?"

He Qiuying was also surprised to hear this so soon and nodded in astonishment.

Several young girls urged her on, and He Qiuying took out several dresses from under the counter.
