Chapter 14: Family Assets
Su He rushed into the room, quickly took out the cold cream and applied it on her face, neck, and hands, then took a palm-leaf fan and fanned the three children.
Su He: Looks like I need to buy an electric fan. Electric fans are already available these days, and we have electricity here. I don’t know what’s wrong with the doctor. He doesn’t even have an electric fan at home! It’s so hot.

The eldest son was surprised: "Mom, you said before that we couldn't use all these towels and would send them to grandma!"

When the eldest son heard this, he was very happy and chose a blue towel for himself. The younger son also chose a blue towel. Su He chose a white towel for Xiao Bao and took out a white towel for himself, putting away the remaining towels. Then he used the children's towels to wipe the three kids.
After wiping, they felt much cooler. The carbohydrates they had at noon and the hot weather made the three children drowsy. Not long after, they all fell asleep on the bed.
After the children fell asleep, Su He opened the wardrobe. She wanted to see what was in the house.
On top were two large quilts, and besides the children's clothes, there were her clothes.
There weren't many things, not even two sets of clothes, but she didn't see any of Jin Weiguo's clothes. It seemed that the man no longer slept with her. For example, she didn't see him last night or when she got up this morning.
It seems like the couple's relationship is seriously bad! But if their relationship is so bad, how could they have three children? The little one is only a little over a year old, so this doesn't make sense!
Su He opened the bedside desk and looked at the things inside. There were five yuan, ten kilograms of national food coupons, and a business ticket, but nothing else.
Really poor!
She looked at the other bedroom which also served as a study. Although Jin Weiguo often slept here, there was a one-meter-long bed and a bookshelf in front of it, which was full of books. There was a desk and a chair in front of the window. There were some manuscripts on the table, a pile of draft paper, a pen holder, and an ink bottle. That was all.
At the inner end of the bed, there were two neatly stacked piles of clothes: one thin pile that looked like summer clothes, and the other pile that looked a bit thicker, like coats for autumn and winter. I didn't see any winter clothes or quilts. There was a blanket and a pillow on the bed.
There are two bamboo-shaped thermoses in the living room—truly antiques. Against the east wall is a three-seater wooden chair, a sofa, with a small table in front that doubles as a coffee table. Against the west wall is a chest of drawers. That's all.
After walking around the three rooms in Su He, she had a better idea of the family's financial situation. Jin Weiguo should have some savings, but she had no idea how much, and she couldn't find out for the time being.
But the three children are still young, especially Xiaobao, who must drink milk powder. This requires finding someone to exchange milk powder tickets and spending money to buy milk powder. Eating only eggs with meals is definitely not nutritious enough.
After watching, Su He also took a nap with the three children. However, after falling asleep, she slept very deeply. She knew she was sleeping and dreaming, but she couldn't wake up.
In her dream, she remembered that there seemed to be a woman with the same name as her, who said goodbye to her with a smile, and seemed to ask her to take good care of the three children!
She agreed to that woman in her dream, and she was wondering in her heart: No one knows Su He, why would she let me take care of her own child? I'm still a baby myself!
The three children woke up, and Xiaobao lay beside her, crying "Mom! Mom!"
Su He seemed to hear something in her sleep and wanted to wake up, but she couldn't wake up no matter what.
When the elder brother saw that Xiaobao couldn't wake up by calling "Mom", he came over and called too.
Su He heard the crying of the three children and became a little anxious. This time, she tried hard to open her eyes and finally woke up.
Su He stood up and held the three children in her arms. She felt much more relaxed. Without time to think about it, she hurried to coax the three children.
The eldest child said: "Mom, what's wrong with you? We were so scared when we called you but you didn't wake up!"
Su He: "Mom is a little tired, probably because the head injury hasn't healed yet! Don't be afraid!"
After washing the tear-stained faces of the three children and cleaning herself up, she went to the kitchen to prepare dinner. She didn't have a watch, and Jin Weiguo was the only one in the family who had one, so she didn't know what time it was.
Anyway, the sun has started to set, and the pancakes and vegetables at noon are enough as the staple food in the evening. I just need to cook some porridge.
When the porridge was cooking, she put a large piece of firewood in the stove. After burning this piece of firewood, she thought the porridge would be cooked. She cleaned another large pot, added water, and lit two pieces of firewood at the bottom, preparing to boil water for taking a bath in the evening.
After finishing the work on the stove and the kitchen was hot, Su He took a stool and sat in the yard with her three children, chatting and telling stories to them.
Su He thought the stars, the moon, the earth, the sun, and the children's talk were quite interesting.
The storyteller group was telling a funny story when Jin Weiguo pushed open the gate of the courtyard and came in.
