Li Wenyang patiently explained to him, and over time, this place became their private secret. They would come over to chat after dinner. Basically, as long as Li Wenyang went over and called out, Xu Hongrui would be there, as if he had been waiting there for a long time.
"I really want to see what you look like." Xu Hongrui lay on the ground, looking at Li Wenyang through the hole. "Can you tell me what you look like? I want to draw you."
"Hmm?" That's something new. "I have a pair of eyes and a mouth."
"Seriously, no jokes."
Li Wenyang shrugged. "You draw first, then show it to me when you're done. I can't explain it to you anyway."
"Hmm." Xu Hongrui worked quickly, and a painting was completed in no time. He gently folded the painting, stuffed it into the dog hole, and handed it to Li Wenyang. "Is this how it is?"
"Your eyes are too small, and your nose should be more prominent. My mouth is very small, why did you draw it so big?" He stuffed it back in.
"I see." Xu Hongrui took it, lay down on the drawing board on the grass, and carefully made changes. In no time, it became a man again, looking better than before. "How about this time?"
Li Wenyang took it and said, "It's alright, it's about 30% like me. You're pretty good, you can draw it even if you just talk about it."
"Only 30%?" Xu Hongrui said disappointedly. "Tell me more about your unique features, and I'll revise them."
"No, let's not." Li Wenyang sighed. Drawing was too slow, and he couldn't do anything else all day but stay here with him. "If you want to see me, just come and see me."
"Is it okay?" Although they hadn't seen the person in person, they could hear the surprise in the voice.
"Of course," Li Wenyang smiled. "I was just thinking of seeing you too."
"Can you come to my house?" Xu Hongrui asked in a low voice. "My parents won't let me go out."
"Okay, sure." Li Wenyang reached in and took his hand. "Don't be sad, I'm here for you."
"Yes." Xu Hongrui squeezed his hand. "I still have you."
Li Wenyang froze, unable to continue speaking. How could anyone be so naive?
Even if someone is completely isolated from the outside world and their mind is muddled, they shouldn't be this stupid.
He paused for a moment, then lay down in that position, holding hands with Xu Hongrui through the dog hole. It was a pure and innocent affair; they did nothing but hold hands.
It's so great to be with innocent people; you don't have to worry about them staring at your anus.
To be honest, he had done a few small jobs for a few hundred dollars before, the kind where the person looked unwilling, but then they would find an opportunity to touch him, their greasy hands almost reaching inside.
This time, just holding hands is enough; nothing else needs to be done.
Xu Hongrui seemed to lie down as well, with their arms in a straight line touching the ground.
Separated by a wall and a starry sky, yet experiencing two different emotions, Li Wenyang was torn between whether or not to stop. He simply couldn't bring himself to harm such an innocent person.
Xu Hongrui was preparing for their meeting tomorrow. Both of them were preoccupied with their own thoughts and didn't part ways until dinner time.
Afterwards, his master asked him how things went.
He said everything went smoothly.
"Thank you for your hard work." The master nodded. "After we finish this job, we'll retire from this life, find a place to live in seclusion, and become a carefree family of three. I'm actually quite excited just thinking about it."
"Yes, after wandering for so many years, I'm really a bit tired." His teacher's wife put a piece of meat on his plate.
Li Wenyang felt a little heavy-hearted. A family of three—this was his most cherished ideal. For the sake of future happiness, Xu Hongrui, I'm sorry, but I will try my best to make it up to you.
Knowing his thoughts, he treated Xu Hongrui several times better, showing concern for his well-being, always online, and fulfilling all his vague and unrealistic questions.
"By the way, I've never asked you how tall you are?"
"Uh, I haven't measured it, so I don't know."
"What size clothes should I wear?"
"Extra large."
"Really?" Xu Hongrui seemed surprised. "Why? Are you fat?"
Li Wenyang looked at himself and said, "I'm not fat, but I'm this tall. If I don't buy a size up, the sleeves won't be long enough."
"Oh, I see. I'll remember now."
You remember? What does that mean?
Could it be that I'm planning to buy him clothes?
To avoid presuming on his feelings, he didn't ask, but he did prepare a gift himself. Afterwards, he sat on a deck chair in the garden playing games. Being a night owl, he couldn't fall asleep until two or three in the morning.
After an unknown amount of time, there was a sudden commotion over there, as if someone was quietly laying something on the ground.
"Xu Hongrui?" he called tentatively. "Is that you?"
"It's me." Xu Hongrui's voice sounded somewhat surprised. "Why aren't you asleep yet? It's so late."
"You weren't asleep either?" It's only a few o'clock, how can you sleep before midnight?
"I was woken up by a nightmare," Xu Hongrui said in a slightly low voice. "It was so scary!"
"What's wrong?" Li Wenyang asked, puzzled.
"I always feel like someone is watching me in the dark." Xu Hongrui seemed terrified. "There are several pairs of eyes, and I can also see blurry black shadows, but they disappear as soon as I turn on the light."
"Really?" Li Wenyang was skeptical. He had long known that this kid had mental problems, including paranoia, autism, and a speech disorder.
However, it doesn't seem that serious. I usually speak fluently and think normally, but this dream was a bit scary. Why did I feel like several pairs of eyes were staring at me at the same time?
"Go to the main gate and wait for me," Li Wenyang said earnestly.
"What?" Xu Hongrui didn't hear clearly the first time, so he couldn't help but ask again, "What did you just say? Why did you have to wait for me at the main gate?"
