Chapter 870 Some Internal Organs Are Failing
Conan and the others looked at Chizuru, not answering Bertrand's question, which was taken as tacit agreement.
The silver-haired boy blinked. "Oh, why are you all so quiet? Aren't you curious?"
Even if you're curious, I won't tell you~
He chuckled as he completed a self-questioning and answering exercise, then simply ignored them as if they didn't exist.
Bertrand rested his chin on one hand, while idly playing with the sheets with the other, humming a song that felt familiar to them.
Not wanting to leave Bertrand and Chizuru alone, Conan and the others sat down on the other side of the bed, waiting for Chizuru to wake up while keeping a close eye on Bertrand.
Bertrand couldn't help but roll his eyes blatantly.
Qianzhu's coma lasted less than they had imagined.
When he woke up, he was stunned for a moment when he saw the ceiling, then sat up, glanced at the people around him, and smiled, "Everyone's here."
"Chizuru, are you alright?" Ai Haibara asked worriedly.
Too many things have happened lately, and even the slightest noise makes her feel uneasy.
Qianzhu shook her head. "No, don't worry about that."
As soon as he finished speaking, he felt someone poke his arm. He turned his head and met Bertrand's bright, sparkling eyes.
Qianzhu paused, looked at him without saying anything.
Bertrand grinned, looking at him expectantly, "Chi-chan~"
Qianzhu remained silent for a moment, then finally uttered only two words:
"Thanks."
"Hmm?" Bertrand blinked, then propped himself up on the bed with both hands, leaned closer to Qianzhu, and tried to widen his light green eyes. "Is that all? Is it really that simple?"
Qianzhu glanced at him, then raised her hand to cup his cheeks and moved him a little further away.
Then Bertrand leaned back in, plopped down on him, wrapped her arms around his neck, and pouted, "Play with me, Chichan, I'm so bored~ Play with me, play with me~~!"
Not getting a reply from Qianzhu, he then threw a tantrum, lying across her lap and yelling, "Stay with me! Stay with me! Stay with me! Stay with me!!"
Everyone: "......"
Qianzhu frowned slightly and reached out to press his head and back. "Quiet."
Bertrand froze for a second, with only a pair of bright eyes blinking at him.
"How do you want me to accompany you?" Qianzhu sighed and asked helplessly.
Bertrand immediately became happy, a smile spreading across his face. He turned around and wrapped his arms around Qianzhu's waist, nuzzling his waist and abdomen like a cat.
"I'll arrange it! I'll arrange it!"
He climbed off the bed with a grin, then grabbed Afra and dashed out of the ward.
After they left, the ward became quiet.
The remaining few people stared at each other silently, bewildered.
"Chizuru...you shouldn't have agreed to his request, right?" Ai Haibara said, somewhat disapprovingly.
Because they knew just how wicked and insane Bertrand was.
He outwardly appears to like Qianzhu very much, but who knows what he's really thinking?
Conan nodded slightly in agreement.
"It's alright, he won't do anything to me." Qianzhu shook his head and smiled as he spoke. After a slight pause, he added, "Just like last time, he will not only not hurt me, but he will also stop others from attacking me."
His words reminded everyone present of what had happened that night.
Conan looked up at Qianzhu in confusion, "Then why is that?"
Qianzhu remained silent for a long time before slowly speaking in the quiet.
"You know that Death is an organization that conducts human experiments, right?"
Their hearts skipped a beat, and they nodded hesitantly.
Qianzhu chuckled softly, leaning back against the headboard. "Petrand and I were both Death's... test subjects. The experiment was called 'symbiosis,' but it failed."
"When one of us is hurt, the other will feel the same pain, and so will death."
He casually summarized his experience as a test subject in two sentences.
"So all along, Bertrand's attitude toward me has indeed been special."
As soon as Qianzhu finished speaking, the IV drip was finished. There was no need to ring the call bell for the nurse. He skillfully pulled out the needle himself and casually grabbed a cotton swab to press on the puncture site to stop the bleeding.
Conan and the others stared at him blankly, unsure of what to say or how to react.
They had suspected it before, but their own guesses and hearing the truth from the person in question are two different things.
Seeing their stunned expressions, Qianzhu smiled, tossed the cotton swab with a tiny bit of blood into the trash can, poured herself a glass of water, took a sip, and continued:
"You must be wondering the same thing, right?"
"What?" Conan snapped out of his daze and asked instinctively, but a thought immediately formed in his mind.
He pursed his lips and asked, "Is it about...Behrfinger?"
"That's right."
Qianzhu smiled and nodded, "I, Bertrand, and Behringer have known each other for a long time, not in the orphanage, but in the laboratory."
"Perhaps it's because in their eyes, my physique is rather special, so they treat me as the 'symbiotic hub.' In a set of symbiotic relationships, I am A, there is only one, but there are more than one B. Bertrand and Behringer are both among them."
He twirled the water glass in his hand as he spoke slowly, as if telling a fairy tale.
As Conan and Ai Haibara's eyes widened in surprise, Chizuru continued speaking.
"However, the 'symbiotic relationship' between me and Bechfenger is not as strong as that between me and Bertrand, so I will be affected to some extent after Bechfenger's death, but I will not die with him."
Therefore, what they heard from the doctor was that Qianzhu's physical condition was that some of his internal organs were failing.
Qianzhu finished speaking, and he smiled as he looked at Conan and Ai Haibara, who seemed to have had their minds refreshed. But when they looked at him, his smile faded.
Conan felt a bit confused, and instinctively asked Chizuru some questions.
Qianzhu also tried her best to tell them the information they could know.
But more than that won't work.
Learn to know when to stop.
How could the power he had built up possibly be so eager to be besieged and destroyed?
Chizuru's condition was not serious, so he left the hospital with Conan and the others that same day.
The doctor gave him careful instructions on how to prevent his organs from continuing to fail.
Ai Haibara listened from the side, secretly noting down all the precautions the doctor mentioned.
