Chapter 196 Night Blade

Chen Ge and the others quickly adjusted their stance, gripping their weapons and preparing for battle. The sound of hooves drew closer, and finally, several knights appeared at the palace entrance, led by a middle-aged man in exquisite armor with a stern face. He stopped his horse, surveyed his surroundings, his eyes sharp.

“I am Lionel, the commander of His Majesty the King’s personal guard,” the knight said. “I received intelligence that evil forces are stirring here.”

Upon hearing this, the crowd began to murmur amongst themselves.

"Oh my god, even the king has noticed this place!"

"This is terrifying. Is it really that dangerous here?"

"This is something you'd only see in a legendary novel!"

Visker whispered to Mela beside him, "It looks like things are getting more complicated." Mela nodded slightly in response, "Anyway, let's see what they have to say."

Chen Ge stepped forward and explained the current situation: "General, we are dealing with the source of the threat here—Nightblade and the forces that may be behind it. But just a short while ago..." Chen Ge pointed to the fallen Saen and Nightblade on the ground and continued, "The two experts fell down after being injured in the process, and now we are facing an unknown new threat."

Lionel frowned as he glanced at the two figures on the ground, then looked at the mysterious man known as the Guardian. "Who is this? And what is the new threat you mentioned?" His voice was firm yet gentle, conveying an undeniable sense of power.

Guardian Tyran smiled slightly: "I am a Watcher, specializing in tracking certain unusual energy flows. As for the new danger, as this warrior said, everyone present, including you, is about to face a crisis unlike any other."

While everyone was still pondering these words, a little girl suddenly cried out, "Did you even think about how to save him?! My brother..."

Upon hearing this, everyone fell silent, the air thick with a heavy, frozen atmosphere. Then, an elderly man who had remained silent until now suddenly stepped forward, breaking the silence. "Time is of the essence. We need to get them to safety immediately for treatment and find out the truth as soon as possible," the old man added, turning to Tyrande and Lionel. "At the same time, we hope your army can provide support to help us find a solution."

“Of course, we will cooperate fully,” Lionel immediately stated. “But before that, please allow us to check and determine if these two people can be moved.” Several guards then quickly stepped forward to check the condition of the two fallen individuals.

At this point, the murmurs among the onlookers grew louder.

"I'm so nervous! I feel like anything could happen at any moment!"

"Wow, this kind of grand scene is like a dream."

"If I could write a book, these would be great material."

A moment later, a guard reported: "General, although these two men are unconscious, they are not in mortal danger. We should be able to move them when appropriate."

Hearing this news, Chen Ge breathed a slight sigh of relief. "That's good. Then please lead the way to the nearest safe outpost." Turning to Tailan, she asked, "Next, let's discuss the specific plan as we go. I believe you can provide us with more clues."

“Alright, I’m willing to do everything I can to help resolve this chaos; after all, it’s my duty.” Tylan nodded in agreement, his gaze returning to the approaching darkness outside. “However, we must not let our guard down; the real test may have only just begun…”

As a troop of knights escorted everyone away from the palace area, only the silent hall and a blood moon hanging in the sky remained, foreshadowing an even more turbulent future. Meanwhile, in some unknown place far away, a pair of malevolent eyes silently observed all that was unfolding.

By the time the group left the palace, night had completely fallen. The procession traversed a series of dark, narrow alleyways, the occasional roars of wild beasts keeping everyone on edge. Several knights led the way, escorting the wounded Sarn and Nightblade, with Morning Song, Visker, Mela, and others following behind to protect them, while Tyranne and Lionel whispered to each other as they walked.

Meanwhile, a group of curious people gathered on one side of the street, whispering about the mysterious team.

"Are those two lying down and being carried away the legendary 'Undying Nightblade'?" a tall, thin young man asked, his eyes sparkling with curiosity.

A burly man in a heavy coat scoffed, "How could you possibly take down that serial killer so easily? Don't be ridiculous!"

Not far away, an old woman shielded her forehead with her hand, gazing into the distance and saying, "Alas, life is truly unpredictable these days. The notorious villain who killed someone in the bustling marketplace just a few days ago has actually been saved today. I wonder who has such great abilities..."

Suddenly, a cold wind swept through the street, and several exclamations came from the crowd. Everyone involuntarily huddled together and looked at the heroic warriors in the ranks.

Meanwhile, at another street corner, three strangely dressed figures lurked in the darkness. The leader, a masked man in black, squinted at a passing group of people, then whispered, "Looks like the target has been apprehended... it's time to get started."

Back on the main marching route, Tyran stopped and looked at Lionel. "We must now speed up our journey to safety, but based on the energy fluctuations we detected earlier, the new threat seems more complex and unpredictable than we anticipated. We need to prepare our defenses in advance."

Lionel nodded seriously. "We've already arranged for people to guard the route. But according to you, this time we're probably facing a type of enemy we've never encountered before."

Just as the two leaders continued discussing strategy, Chen Ge keenly sensed something unusual and immediately alerted everyone. At that moment, several dark figures leaped out from both sides and attacked the group!

One of the attackers brandished his longsword and charged straight at Mela, but was intercepted midway by Chen Ge's sharp sword. "Trying to mess with my teammate? No way!" he shouted, and the two then engaged in a fierce battle.

"Damn it! I never expected them to launch a sneak attack at this moment," Mela said, still shaken.

Vesker calmly cast a spell to assist his companion, saying, "It seems the enemy doesn't want us to complete the transfer smoothly. Everyone, be on high alert to prevent being ambushed again."

Passersby were stunned by what they saw.

"My God, is this a real fight?" a timid young man screamed.

"Wow, these guys are really brave and fearless just like they're in the books!" A girl standing at the back exclaimed with admiration.

"Alas, poor child, this life-or-death struggle is no laughing matter..." the old woman murmured a prayer in her heart.

Ultimately, through everyone's efforts, they successfully defeated the assassins who had launched the attack and regrouped to quickly head towards the nearest safe zone.

As the first rays of dawn were about to illuminate the city, the weary warriors finally arrived before an impregnable fortress. The guards opened the heavy gates to let the exhausted travelers rest inside, and Chen Ge let out a long sigh of relief.

"We're finally out of danger for now... but this battle isn't over yet; the real showdown is still waiting for us," he sighed to his friend.

At this moment, Tylan came over and joined the conversation: "That's true, but as long as we are united, there is no difficulty that we cannot overcome."

The distant eastern horizon, tinged with the pale light of dawn, reflected in everyone's eyes, foreshadowing the beginning of a new challenge...

"Do you think...we will win?" Mela asked Chen Ge, gazing into the distance with a mixture of expectation and worry in her eyes.

Chen Ge gently patted her shoulder and smiled, saying, "No matter what difficulties we encounter, we must forge ahead—isn't that what we've always believed in?" After saying that, he raised his head and looked at the rising sun in the distance, his heart filled with determination to fight for the future.
