Chapter 204 Under the Night

As night fell, the tension between the newly emerged shadow mage Allen and Chen Ge's group reached its peak. In this perilous situation, everyone was on edge, and even the air seemed to freeze.

"Hmph, overconfident humans." Allen sneered, then drew a dagger emitting a ghostly glow from his sleeve. "Let me show you what I've got!" With that, he swiftly cast a dark spell, and several black energy blades shot towards the nearest squad. One of the soldiers watched these terrifying weapons rapidly approach, a look of terror on his face. "Watch out!" Just at the critical moment, Wright leaped in front of them, raising his greatsword to deflect the attacks one by one. "Everyone, spread out! Don't become its target!"

Meanwhile, Aresa did not back down. Although exhausted, she still did her best to unleash more light magic to counteract the threat. "Everyone, join me in chanting a blessing song to create a protective barrier for us," she softly guided the surrounding warriors, urging them to concentrate and work together to reduce casualties. At this moment, a novice apprentice named Mary was greatly encouraged: "Yes, yes, I will do my best to help you complete the mission. Please trust me, teacher!" The girl's eyes were filled with determination as she joined the others in chanting the spell.

"Damn it... this guy is even more troublesome than I expected." Tom said, gripping his short sword tightly, his eyes fixed on the figure that kept attacking. "But we will never give up easily, right?" The veteran Carlos, standing to the side, patted the young man's shoulder encouragingly. "That's right. Hold on, we will win."

Suddenly, the entire battlefield seemed to fall silent, with only the heavy, rhythmic heartbeat of the abyss dragon echoing throughout the space. Chen Ge knew this might be a prelude to an enemy attack. "Prepare for the fiercest wave of attack! Hold your positions!"

In the blink of an eye, Allen unleashed an even larger and more deadly dark whirlwind. However, unexpectedly—just when everyone thought they were about to be swept away, Ares stepped forward and shielded others from most of the force. "Cough…Quick! Get out of this dangerous area…" This loyal companion, even though he was badly injured, was still concerned for the safety of others.

This scene filled many onlookers with both admiration and deep sorrow. "So brave...so incredibly brave..." a young soldier murmured, sobbing softly, clearly deeply moved and shaken. Meanwhile, some survivors watching from afar began encouraging each other. "We must be strong, we absolutely cannot let their sacrifice be in vain!"

At that very moment, another mysterious shift occurred in the sky. The light that had previously vanished reappeared in everyone's sight, now even more dazzling. "What's going on? Has something else changed?"

Just as everyone was puzzled, a warm aura slowly drifted from that direction, gradually covering the entire battlefield. "Looks like reinforcements have arrived?" Wright speculated. Immediately afterwards, a group of elves dressed in magnificent attire and wielding strange magical artifacts appeared. "My brave friends, you no longer need to bear this burden alone. Now, we elves will join the battle and help you."

A beautiful woman with long golden hair and emerald green eyes smiled slightly, then waved her magic wand. "Power of nature, answer my call and descend upon the world!" As she danced gracefully, countless flowers and vines rapidly grew and spread, not only binding the frantically struggling dragon that tried to break free but also healing the wounded. "Thank you for your support!" Chen Ge bowed deeply to this noble ally.

But before everyone could breathe a sigh of relief and celebrate their impending success, the mysterious voice echoed throughout the arena once more: "Very good... but this is far from over, my dear opponents. Soon... you will understand the true meaning of fear... hehehe..."

The moment the words left his mouth, the surroundings shifted again, instantly becoming eerie and chilling. "Oh no... what strange trick is it going to pull this time?!" Wright frowned, warily surveying his surroundings, while asking Chen Ge, whose expression had also turned serious, "What do you think?"

Chen Ge's gaze was fixed ahead, a slight smile playing on her lips. "No matter what tricks it uses, we can handle them." Her words were firm and resolute, yet a hint of worry lingered in her heart. At that moment, Aresa stepped forward, her staff gleaming with a soft light. "Light can always dispel darkness. Let's fight together."

Just as everyone prepared for a new round of trials, more shadows suddenly surged from the battlefield. Unidentified creatures began to emerge from the darkness, seemingly drawn by the mysterious sound. "What are these monsters?!" novice apprentice Mary cried out in panic. Her companions, though startled, quickly rallied and prepared for battle. "Don't be afraid. As long as we unite, there's no difficulty we can't overcome," Carlos reassured them.

Just then, the elven warriors began to display their power. The woman with long golden hair was named Lyra. She gracefully waved her wand, and instantly, shimmering petals danced around her enemies. "Feel the power of nature! Let all things return to peace." As she chanted the spell, the previously ferocious beasts gradually quieted down, some even collapsing to the ground and falling asleep.

This scene greatly surprised many soldiers. "Amazing...it's unbelievable!" "Is this the legendary power of the elves?" The young men whispered among themselves. Wright, who was standing not far away, gripped his greatsword tightly: "I feel much more at ease with her here."

Just when everyone thought the situation had stabilized, Allen's voice rang out again, filled with an indescribable resentment and coldness: "Ha...do you really think you can defeat me like this? How naive..." As soon as he finished speaking, the air was suddenly filled with a pungent odor, blurring even visibility. Then, bursts of maniacal laughter shattered the silence of the night.

Just then, a little girl squeezed through the crowd. She was young, but her face was filled with determination. "My brother said that brave people are never defeated. I want to fight alongside everyone." Her arrival stunned everyone around her for a few seconds. "Whose child are you? You shouldn't be in such a dangerous place!" Tom said anxiously.

But this young girl clearly wasn't new to facing danger. "I am Lia, daughter of the city library keeper," she said, holding up a heavy, ancient book and gently stroking its cover. "My father told me that this book contains many powerful spells... perhaps it can help everyone." Hearing this, a glint of light flashed in Chen Ge's eyes. "Then let's witness its miracle together!"

At the same time, Leah turned the pages of the book and began chanting an ancient incantation. A mysterious energy instantly enveloped everyone and spread outwards, fighting against the dark force that was about to devour everything…

"This is..." Wright couldn't help but exclaim in admiration upon seeing this. Even Allen showed a look of shock; he never expected such a powerful being to appear before him to oppose him. "Impossible... absolutely impossible to fail..." However, no matter how hard he tried, it seemed that he could no longer find any chance to successfully counterattack.

At this crucial moment, the voice that had never revealed its true form rang out again: "The game is far from over, let's look forward to an even more exciting showdown... hehehe..." As these malicious yet meaningful words fell, the earth trembled violently once more, and a new challenge seemed to be quietly approaching...

Wright looked at Chen Ge seriously and asked, "What's next? Do you think this is its full-force attack?"

Chen Ge gazed at the increasingly thick dark fog in the distance, and after a moment of silence, replied, "No matter what, we can only move forward. Because retreat means utter defeat." She turned to her teammates, her eyes gleaming with unyielding spirit: "Are you ready? The real battle has only just begun."
