Chapter 25 seems a bit biased.

25

As girls enter puberty, they always pay special attention to their appearance. Yu Yao is especially fond of beauty and for a period of time often went to Grandma Jian's collection room.

The collection room contains jewelry worn by Grandma Jane from childhood to adulthood, including a swan maiden necklace that she wore when she was a teenager.

Yu Yao took a liking to it at first sight and immediately took it out and put it around her neck.

Because she stayed for too long, she forgot to tell Grandma Jian when she came out. It was only when Yu Ting saw the necklace around her neck and asked about it that Grandma Jian found out that Yu Yao had worn the necklace.

At that time, Yu Ting asked Yu Yao why she didn't say anything when she took the necklace.

Yu Yao said indifferently, "I forgot."

Qi Yuexi didn't take it seriously, "What's wrong with my granddaughter wearing her own grandmother's necklace?"

Yu Ting said, "If I hadn't seen it today, what if my stepmother found the necklace missing and thought it had been stolen? Wouldn't the maid who was responsible for cleaning and tidying up be blamed? Taking something without asking is considered stealing. Doesn't my sister-in-law understand this principle?"

Qi Yuexi thought Yu Ting was deliberately picking a fight, and tears streamed down her face. Seeing this, Yu Yao hid in Yu Hao's arms and cried along with him.

Yu Hao felt sorry for his daughter and said a few words to Yu Ting.

This upset Yu Ting as well.

Seeing the family arguing, Yu Zhentian tried to smooth things over, saying, "It's just a necklace, what's the big deal? Yu Yao can wear it if she likes it. The house is full of your mother's jewelry from when she was young. Didn't you take a lot of it before?"

Yu Ting protested, "I told Mom before I took it, and she agreed before I took it. I didn't sneak into the house, much less take it secretly."

Yu Zhentian said, "It's a small matter, don't make a fuss about it. If you want it, have your mother give it to you again."

Finally, Grandma Jian opened the collection room and let Yu Ting, Qi Yuexi, and Yu Yao in. They each picked out a few items before stopping.

Yu Cheng suddenly felt a tightness in his chest, loosened his tie, and exhaled a breath of stale air.

Hearing something was wrong with the voice, Prime Minister Ou asked, "What's wrong?"

Yu Cheng recounted the events.

Ou Xiang was speechless. "Yu Yao stole her grandmother's necklace and wasn't punished; instead, she received even more jewelry. Jian Yu stole her mother's necklace and got a severe beating. This isn't just a little bit of favoritism in your family!"

Yu Cheng, “…” seems to be somewhat biased.

Yu Cheng thought for a moment and then explained to Prime Minister Ou, "Because Jian Yu had some problems when she was in the orphanage, my parents were particularly sensitive. Their intention was to do what was best for Jian Yu, and they probably didn't mean to be biased."

"An orphanage? Okay, I'll look into the Jianyu Orphanage again tomorrow."

What Prime Minister Ou didn't say was that children who grew up in orphanages, having finally found new families, especially wealthy ones, would normally hide their flaws. Some would even deliberately act as if they were perfect, in order to stay and secure greater benefits for their future.

If there's no time to hide one's shortcomings, how can one possibly make mistakes everywhere?

When Yu Cheng arrived home, Qi Yuexi had just gone out. Aunt Li brought over a glass of water. "Young Master!"

Yu Cheng gave her a deep look. "What time will my mother be back?"

"It will probably be very late. Mrs. Zhang has invited you to his family's banquet."

I attended the banquet and didn't get back until almost midnight.

Jian Yu's place can't be left unattended for too long.

Yu Cheng then called Qi Yuexi and explained the situation. Qi Yuexi nodded in agreement and said, "I'm used to Aunt Li taking care of me, so I'll have someone else go instead!"

Anyone else is fine, as long as they can take care of Jianyu.

Yu Cheng said, "I'll have the driver take her there."

"Have Aunt Li inform Xiaoling."

Upon hearing Xiaoling's name, a hint of surprise flashed in Aunt Li's eyes, but she quickly concealed it.

"Understood, madam."

Upon receiving the notification, Zhang Xiaoling changed out of her uniform, grabbed her bag, and, under Aunt Li's arrangement, followed the driver.

Yu Cheng watched the car drive away and finally felt relieved.

Upon reaching the hospital entrance, Zhang Xiaoling got out of the car and told the driver to go back.

Zhang Xiaoling took out a small mirror, tidied her makeup, and then went into the hospital.

After finding the ward, Zhang Xiaoling glanced at the sleeping Jian Yu, then walked away with her head held high in her high heels.

After coming out, I went to a nearby coffee shop and ordered a coffee.

Not long after, a tall, thin middle-aged man walked in, and Zhang Xiaoling went up to him, took his arm, and left together.

Around 11 p.m., Yu Cheng was a little thirsty. Considering it was getting late, he didn't want to bother Aunt Li and went out to get himself some water.

The lights in the tea room were still on, so it seemed that some people hadn't rested yet.

As I got closer, I heard the head chef say, "Madam is back, you should go to sleep too!"

Aunt Li's voice was a little low, "I'm not sleepy yet."

The head chef said, "It's because Madam asked Xiaoling to go to the hospital to take care of Miss Jian, isn't it?"

Aunt Li sighed, "I don't know what Madam is thinking? Miss Jian is also her child, and now that she's so sick, she still sends Xiaoling over."

The head chef sighed, "Madam did it on purpose. Everyone knows that Xiaoling always helps the eldest young lady bully Miss Jian. Right now, she might have left Miss Jian alone in the hospital and gone to meet her boyfriend."

"Shh!" Aunt Li's voice was a little nervous. "Don't say that, or someone might hear you."

"Everyone's asleep, no one's here right now."

There was a sound of a cabinet closing, and then the main light in the tea room went out, leaving only a small lamp on.

The two of them were to turn left from the tea room. Yu Cheng was standing on the right side of the tea room. The two of them didn't see Yu Cheng and went back to their room with their cups.

Yu Cheng looked unwell. He turned around and went back to his room. Once there, he called Aunt Li over.

Aunt Li pushed open the door, and Yu Cheng was looking down at the documents on the table. "Aunt Li, why don't you call Xiao Ling and ask her how Jian Yu is doing?"

Aunt Li's eyelids flickered. "Okay."

The call connected, and Zhang Xiaoling's slightly coquettish voice came through, "Aunt Li, is something wrong so late?"

"How is Miss Jian?"

"She's asleep. I've been watching over her the whole time, so don't worry!"

"good."

Aunt Li kept her head down, not looking at Yu Cheng, "Young Master, Miss Jian is doing well."

Yu Cheng stared at the top of Aunt Li's head for a long time, then said, "Really?"

Aunt Li found Yu Cheng's tone a bit strange, "Is the young master worried?"

Yu Cheng said, "I'm really worried. Come with me to the hospital to get checked out."

Aunt Li looked up in surprise; Yu Cheng was already putting on his coat.

When Yu Cheng picked up the car keys, Aunt Li realized that Yu Cheng was serious.

Although she felt something was off, Aunt Li didn't ask any questions and immediately followed.

When they arrived at the hospital, Zhang Xiaoling was nowhere to be found.

Without Yu Cheng needing to explain, Aunt Li directly dialed Zhang Xiaoling's number.

Zhang Xiaoling repeated, "Miss Jian is asleep, and I've been watching her the whole time."

Aunt Li glanced at Yu Cheng's gloomy face. "Is that so?"

"Yeah! Don't worry! I'm not telling you anymore, the hospital doesn't allow loud talking, the nurses on duty are glaring at me."

Aunt Li glanced at the nurses' station. There were two nurses on duty. One had gone to the restroom, and the other had just entered the ward next door.

Aunt Li didn't dare to look at Yu Cheng's face, and immediately adopted the authority of a housekeeper, "Zhang Xiaoling, you're fired."
