Chapter 503 Wanwan Follows Him
The third-day celebration.
Gu Jingxi invited many guests to his eldest son's third-day celebration. He did not invite relatives and friends who were not in the capital, as they would not be able to make it in time. However, he sent them invitations in advance to attend the baby's full-month celebration.
Meng Chengzhang was still at the academy and couldn't return in time, so Meng Dongyuan could only bring Meng Chengxing to the banquet. Although his daughter didn't get along with him, she had given the Gu family a son and was favored in the family, which made him, as the father, proud. When he went out, others would give him some face.
After visiting his grandson, Meng Dongyuan chatted with the other guests. Although the other guests looked down on him, they were still willing to give him face and chat with him because he was Gu Jingxi's father-in-law.
Meng Chengxing followed his father and noticed that his father was not as concerned about him as before. When his father was chatting happily with others, he did not think of mentioning him to others. It was only when others saw that he could not get a word in edgewise that they steered the conversation toward him, and only then was he able to speak and ease the awkwardness. He was furious, but there was nothing he could do about his father.
Meng Dongyuan said gently, "Chengxing, your brother-in-law is over there. Go talk to him. Didn't you say you wanted to ask him for advice when you came?"

Meanwhile, Gu Jingxi was somewhat surprised to see his brother-in-law suddenly come over and start a conversation with him. But when he saw his father-in-law not far away, he understood what it meant. His brother-in-law had been sent over by his father-in-law, which could be considered a form of harassment by his father-in-law.
Meng Chengxing forced himself to chat with him for a few minutes, but when he saw that some acquaintances of his age had appeared, he quickly made an excuse to leave.

Song Xinning picked up the little one and asked, "Have you named the baby yet?"
Meng Jinyao replied, "I haven't chosen a formal name yet. My nickname is Wanwan, which means 'late' in 'dinner'."
"Wanwan?" Song Xinning asked, puzzled. "Why would you give him that nickname?"
Meng Jinyao smiled and said, "Because he was born a few days late, which made me anxious for a few more days, so I named him Wanwan (meaning 'late')."
Song Xinning was surprised: "You can do that?"
Meng Jinyao retorted, "Otherwise what?" She looked at her son and said with a sigh, "He knew how to procrastinate even before he was born. Do you think he will develop this habit of procrastinating in the future?"
Upon hearing this, Song Xinning suddenly remembered her uncle's words and replied, "If that's the case, then his personality must have come from your husband."
Meng Jinyao asked doubtfully, "Why do you say that?"
Song Xinning replied, "I once heard my uncle say that when your husband was in school, he was always the last to finish his homework. All the other students had handed it in to the teacher, and he would slowly hand it in at the last minute."
Meng Jinyao: "...So that's where the problem lies."
Song Xinning continued, "Every time my maternal grandmother said that my uncle was slow at doing things, my uncle would push your husband out to take the blame for himself. Then my maternal grandmother would say, 'He may be a little slower than you, but he finishes things better than you.' This would make my uncle so frustrated that he would immediately go and get things done, and then come back to my maternal grandmother to boast about his achievements."
She paused for a moment, and seeing her friend remain silent, she continued, "You don't need to worry. Your husband is so outstanding. If Wanwan is like him, she will definitely be an outstanding child as well."
Meng Jinyao gently shook her head and smiled tenderly: "I don't care whether the child is outstanding or not, as long as he has good character and is healthy and safe. It would be even better if he were successful. It's just that the Gu Jingxi I've heard about from others is very different from the Gu Jingxi I know."
Song Xinning replied, "That was when he was young, so it must be different from now. My husband has changed a lot in the last two years. He was a steady person to begin with, and he has become even more mature and steady in the last two years."

Meng Jinyao replied, "Husband, I think the name Wanwan suits you too."

Meng Jinyao said with a smile, "I was wondering why my child was born a few days late. Later, after hearing about his father's deeds, I realized that he had taken after his father from the womb and liked to procrastinate."
Gu Jingxi retorted instinctively, "Ayao, when have I ever liked to procrastinate? I've never procrastinated when you ask me to do something."
Meng Jinyao retorted, "Do you dare say that when you were in school, you weren't the last one to finish your homework?"
