Chapter 29 Crossing the Bridge

At the moment, there were only four of them and three horses. To be on the safe side, they decided to let the lighter Shrike lead Jixiang across the bridge first.

Shrike was reluctant at first. She was afraid of heights and absolutely refused to lead the way. Xiao Nanhui coaxed her into submission, saying that dying early would bring her a new life, and that walking behind would be unsafe. This finally persuaded her.

Watching Jixiang's butt slowly disappear on the cable bridge, Xiao Nan looked back at the people around him.

"Who's next?"

There was a silence.

A whistle came from the other side, which was the Shrike's signal, meaning that she had crossed the bridge and the next person could be arranged.

Xiao Nanhui glanced at Ding Weixiang, who stood still beside him, and asked, "Brother Ding, are you not planning to cross the bridge?"

Ding Weixiang looked straight ahead without even tilting his head: "You go first."

Xiao Nanhui was a little puzzled: "Why should I go first? This isn't your horse? Do you want me to lead it over?"

"Thank you, Master Yao. For safety reasons, I cannot leave my master's side."

Xiao Nanhui looked at Zhong Lijing again, and he gave her an innocent look: "I am not as agile as Master Yao, and I have to rely on Wei Xiang all the time. I am sorry to make you laugh."

Xiao Nanhui was almost at a loss for words about this master-servant pairing. Just as she was starting to waver, she thought, "That's not right. What if she went across alone and these two ran off with the imperial seal?"

"You can ask me to come over, but the things must be handed over to me."

Ding Weixiang said calmly, "No."

Xiao Nanhui was extremely angry and laughed: "This won't work, and that won't work either. Then the three of us might as well just stay here and waste time."

The air fell into dead silence again.

After an unknown amount of time, the Shrike, perhaps growing impatient, turned back and asked, "What the hell are you guys dawdling about for?"

Xiao Nanhui pointed to the two remaining horses nearby and said, "You've arrived just in time. Take these two horses over as well."

Shrike glared. "Why? This bridge can only support the weight of one horse. Doesn't that mean I'll have to run across it twice more?"

Xiao Nanhui was too lazy to explain the fatal twists and turns, so he flattered him: "You have the best Qinggong, and you walk steadily."

This trick really pleased someone, and he became even more arrogant, raising his head and saying, "You beg me."

Xiao Nanshou suppressed his smile and slapped the round head. "I'm your master, and you still want me to beg you?! Be careful or I'll go back and complain to Du Juan."

Shrike covered the back of his head and looked at Xiao Nanhui angrily, but in the end he had to obey under the threat.

The moon is at its zenith, just after midnight.

Shrike walked back and forth twice before leading the two horses to the other side, his face extremely grim. She held one end of the rope bridge and shook it, prompting the other side to speed up.

There were only three lonely people and the wooden box left by the cliff. In the night, the dark cable bridge looked ominous no matter how you looked at it.

Xiao Nanhui stared at the box in Zhongli Jing's hand: "Why are you still standing there? Let's go!"

Ding Weixiang stared at Xiao Nanhui's face and said, "Let's go together."

Only the person in the middle had that expression of asking for a beating from beginning to end, as if he was covered by the sky falling.

The three of them stepped onto the extremely narrow cable bridge almost at the same time. No one was willing to go in front, and no one was willing to fall behind. They could only squeeze into a row and move with difficulty.

The long cable bridge is about a hundred meters long, and it sways more and more as you get closer to the middle.

The rumbling sound of the river under the bridge became more and more obvious. They felt like they were hanging on the mouth of a giant beast. If they fell in, they would be swallowed up in an instant.

The water vapor produced by the collision of the water and the cliff floated up, which was a bit charming. Xiao Nanhui paused and raised his hand to wipe the water droplets on his eyelashes.

The wooden board under her feet suddenly made a muffled sound of breaking because of this brief pause.

Ding Weixiang turned around suddenly, Xiao Nanhui had frozen, and slowly looked down, only to see that the cracks on the wooden board seemed to have stopped growing.

She breathed a sigh of relief and carefully stepped away from the board. However, as soon as she left, a series of sharp noises came from behind her.

This time it wasn't the sound of breaking wood.

The interlocking iron chains were covered in rust. In the darkness, one link of the chain broke first, and then one after another, the rest of the chains broke as if they could not bear the weight.

The entire cable bridge emitted a low, hoarse roar, and the sound echoed horribly in the canyon, causing Xiao Nanhui to swallow instinctively.

Could it be that this bridge has really fallen into disrepair and is becoming less and less useful?

Or, or is it because of the luggage that was just unloaded from Jixiang’s back?

Could it be that she has gained a lot of weight these days?!

"Do you think the bridge is shaking a bit?"

Xiao Nanhui's eyes met Ding Weixiang's.

wrong.

There is another possibility.

That means there are more than just three people on this cable bridge now.
