Chapter 32 (Exclusive to Jinjiang Literature City)

Having promised to treat Conan to a meal as an apology, Jingyuan asked him what he wanted to eat.

The child thought for a moment and then said, "Let's go to the restaurant where we first met."

There are just too many mysteries surrounding GIN; if he doesn't figure them out, he won't be able to sleep well at night.

“That restaurant is indeed quite good; you have excellent taste,” Jing Yuan said with a smile. “However, it’s impossible for you to get any information about GIN from there.”

Conan Edogawa, holding his hand like an ordinary elementary school student being led home by an adult, said, "What are you saying, big brother? I just think the cakes there are delicious."

Hearing him deliberately speak in a high-pitched voice, Jing Yuan couldn't help but laugh out loud: "Looks like you had a great time in elementary school."

How is that possible?

Conan Edogawa sighed helplessly.

Although he was happy to meet the Junior Detective League, he was, after all, a seventeen-year-old high school student. Every day, looking at the things he had already learned on the blackboard, he was so bored that he wanted to doze off.

Reviewing the old helps one learn the new, which is good, but this knowledge point is too "old".

He didn't want to go to school at all, but Professor Agasa said that it would be strange for him not to go to school in his current state.

To be honest, he felt a little embarrassed, but compared to high school life, being a primary school student was quite easy. He would be even better if this identity didn't affect his ability to solve cases openly and honestly.

The thought that he could only solve cases by using the identity of Kogoro Mouri made Conan Edogawa feel that his life was really too difficult.

This bumbling detective is only reliable when it comes to matters of the heart; otherwise, he's a complete drunkard.

“So you need to start planning to restore your identity as Shinichi Kudo as soon as possible,” Ai Haibara reminded him. “Kogoro Mouri is a famous detective in Japan now, but we all know that he doesn’t actually have that ability. Once you leave, he won’t have an easy time.”

Falling from the clouds is a terrible feeling.

Conan Edogawa knew this perfectly well.

"Why didn't you just stay at Dr. Agasa's house?" Ai Haibara asked, somewhat puzzled, because based on her understanding of Shinichi Kudo over this period of time, he would never consider the Mouri Detective Agency as his first choice.

Conan Edogawa explained, "It was Dr. Agasa's suggestion. He said that Uncle Mori's profession would make it easier for me to investigate the Black Organization. I thought it made sense, so I went with Ran."

He had originally thought that he might be able to find out something by using Kogoro Mouri's identity as a detective, but now it seems that apart from getting the Mouri father and daughter involved, it has not brought him much help.

I think I should move out of the Mori Detective Agency as soon as possible.

Regardless of whether Jingyuan's claim that the Black Organization was about to be destroyed was true or false, staying with the Mori family was not a good thing, and he genuinely didn't want to drag any more innocent people into it.

Seeing the child's furrowed brow, Jing Yuan comforted him, "You've already done your best within the limits of what you can do, don't be too hard on yourself."

Perhaps in other people's eyes, Shinichi Kudo is the savior of the Japanese police and an all-powerful detective, but in Jingyuan's eyes, he is still just a minor. He is already very outstanding for being able to escape from the Black Organization time and time again and even fight back, making the Black Organization suffer several losses in silence.

"Several people know my identity. What do you plan to do?" Conan Edogawa suddenly asked.

If it's just about erasing his memory, how can Jingyuan guarantee that the news of ATPX-4869 won't get out from other people?

Putting aside his comrades, doesn't the Black Organization know about the drugs they developed themselves? What if other researchers discover that Ai Haibara has falsified the data?

“You don’t need to worry about that.” Jing Yuan smiled and winked at him. “I’m an expert in this area.”

The child didn't speak, but just stared at him silently for a while before asking, "But why should I believe you won't reveal that I've shrunk?"

He wasn't familiar with Jing Yuan, and they had only met a handful of times. Why would he entrust his life and fortune to Jing Yuan?

If the Japanese government is interested in his secrets, wouldn't the forces behind Jingyuan be interested as well?

Kagemoto was not angry at Conan Edogawa's suspicion; in fact, he was pleased that the boy had become wary of him.

“If you maintain this vigilance, your future achievements will be limitless,” Jing Yuan said sincerely.

He really thinks highly of Conan Edogawa.

"Don't think that just because I'm praising me, I'll let my guard down." Conan Edogawa suppressed his inner excitement.

Jingyuan didn't continue the previous topic, but suddenly asked, "How much do you know about Yokohama?"

"Yokohama?" Conan Edogawa didn't know why Kagemoto would suddenly ask this, but he still answered, "Not much. I only know that there is a detective named Edogawa Ranpo in the Armed Detective Agency there. He is very good. It is said that he can see through the truth of the case at a glance."

"Do you think this claim is true?" Jing Yuan asked.

Conan Edogawa chuckled: "That only means he observes far more than the average person."

That's what distinguishes detectives from ordinary people.

“That’s right,” Jing Yuan agreed.

Just like Fu Xuan's Heavenly Eye, and Luo Fu's Great Evolution Dome Observation Array, they both predict the future based on existing information.

"Have you met that Edogawa detective?" Jingyuan asked again.

"No," Conan Edogawa replied. "I've only heard of his name and read some reports about him."

“Really?” Jing Yuan smiled and said, “I thought your pseudonym was based on him and Arthur Conan Doyle.”

"It comes from their names," Conan Edogawa said proudly. "They are my two favorite mystery novel authors!"

"Oh? Edogawa Ranpo was not only a detective, but also a mystery novelist." Jingyuan exclaimed, feigning surprise. "That's amazing."

Conan Edogawa suddenly stopped, his face pale.

"What's wrong?" Jing Yuan stopped and knelt down, his golden eyes full of tenderness. "Are you feeling unwell?"

Conan Edogawa forced a stiff smile: "Mr. Kagemoto, I think there might be something wrong with my memory."

"Hmm?" Jing Yuan tilted his head and asked with a smile, "Why do you say that?"

"Edogawa Ranpo of Yokohama..." he said, "is not the same person as Edogawa Ranpo who wrote mystery novels."

"Oh?" Jing Yuan said casually. "Perhaps it's just a coincidence of names."

"That's not how it is!" Conan Edogawa suddenly became agitated, his small hand that had been holding Kagemoto's turned icy cold. "Because the name of the president of the Armed Detective Agency is Fukuzawa Yukichi."

Like pulling a loose thread, Conan Edogawa found a suspicious point and then followed that thread to find more inconsistencies.

The blank portrait on the banknote, the suddenly empty space on the bookshelf, and Yokohama, both familiar and unfamiliar...

"You tampered with my memories?" Conan Edogawa hoped to get an answer from Kagemoto.

Jing Yuan laughed and said, "It wasn't me."

"So, my memory really is faulty?" No matter how unbelievable it seemed, Conan Edogawa had no choice but to accept it.

"Your ability to learn is quite good," Jing Yuan praised.

He stood up, took out his phone from his pocket, and said, "It's lunchtime, let's go to the restaurant and talk while we eat."

Conan Edogawa knew it wasn't convenient to talk about these things on the street, but...

“It’s even more inconvenient to talk about this in a restaurant,” Conan Edogawa said. “I’m not hungry right now, so how about we go to your place?”

Jingyuan knew what he was thinking, but since his address wasn't something he needed to hide, he readily agreed.

Before coming to Japan, Daolian told him that he didn't need to worry about food, clothing, or shelter. Jingyuan knew that the influence of the Daoist school in Japan was definitely not small. However, after experiencing it firsthand, he realized what a three-thousand-year-old legacy truly meant.

Even outside his own country, Taoism has permeated every aspect of life, which is why Conan Edogawa has no way of knowing where Kagemoto lives.

It could be a high-end five-star hotel, or just a small shop that you can see anywhere on the roadside, or even a luxury villa.

Today, Kagemoto lives in an ordinary house not far from the Kudo residence.

Conan Edogawa looked around and asked, "Do you live here alone?"

"What?" Jing Yuan teased, "Do you want to move in with me?"

"Is that alright?" Conan Edogawa immediately seized the opportunity. "Then thank you so much, Brother Jingyuan!"

Jing Yuan: "..."

Young man, do you still remember that you were a high school student?

“I don’t mind,” Jingyuan said, “if you don’t dislike cats.”

As soon as he finished speaking, a white lion cat gracefully walked out of the bedroom.

Upon discovering a stranger in the house, the cat tilted its head in confusion, but it quickly realized that the child's scent was somewhat familiar.

Oh, its owner brought it to see this place before.

Touching his precious breasts, Jingyuan said, "If you've made up your mind, you can move in anytime."

"I thought you were more concerned about whether I would agree to erase your memories." Conan Edogawa's expression was somewhat complicated.

Jing Yuan smiled and said, "How could I rush you on something so important? After all, memories are very precious things."

Whether painful or joyful, these complex memories are all part of "me," and they are not something that can be so easily discarded.

While Conan Edogawa was deep in thought because of his words, someone knocked on the door and brought over the food that Kagemoto had ordered from the restaurant.

Seeing the child's surprised expression, Jingyuan said, "I promised to treat you to a meal, I can't go back on my word, can I?"

"...But, is it really necessary to order so much?" Conan Edogawa looked at the huge pile of food and couldn't help but complain. "If the two of us can't finish it, are we supposed to let Mimi do it?"

Mimi, who was suddenly called out, meowed in confusion.

What does it have to do with this? It's just an innocent little kitten.

"We have other guests coming in a little while, so we ordered a bit more," Jing Yuan explained.

Conan Edogawa asked in confusion, "Who's coming over? Gin?"

“No,” Jingyuan laughed, “it’s Edogawa Ranpo.”
