Chapter Thirty-Seven
The moment the metal ball was launched, a deafening roar erupted. Even buildings within the area affected by the sound wave trembled.
That was an absolutely terrifying power, a power that had even been shrunk into a metal sphere. Its speed was almost as fast as lightning, happening in an instant. A flash of black lightning streaked across the sky.
As long as that thing is in its trajectory, whether it's a giant dragon, a serpent, or any other monster, it will be destroyed. Anyone who tried to withstand it with their supposedly superior defense is already dead.
That was knowledge not found in any sorcery textbooks, and it was Nina's unique sorcery. Because no one could possibly possess such control to accomplish such a near-mad act. The slightest misstep would mean certain death for herself.
Even if it succeeds completely, the consequences will be disastrous.
Nina fell to the ground, her eyes wide open.
Her entire body was paralyzed by the lightning; compressing that level of lightning didn't come without a price. The price was that, at least for tonight, she would be completely defenseless.
But I've already succeeded; that thing couldn't possibly have withstood that attack. It must be reduced to ashes by now.
Extremely high-density black lightning is capable of directly destroying matter; its destructive power remains unmatched to this day.
A crow landed beside her; she had just been trying to avoid the aftershocks of that thing.
She helped Nina up and placed her beside the ruins, then stood guard nearby.
"Did you hit it?" Nina asked softly.
“I didn’t see it dodge,” the crow said after a pause. “Impressive, truly a genius.”
“Ha, even a genius couldn’t do that,” Nina said with a laugh, her body trembling occasionally as the electric current caused her muscles to spasm.
After assessing the situation, the crow took out a bamboo tube from its body, poured out a few pills, and fed them to Nina.
It was concocted using witchcraft to deal with this situation; it could relieve muscle paralysis. Although the effect was limited, it was more than enough to alleviate the pain.
Suddenly, the crow saw in Nina's pupils an incredulous terror.
She realized something was wrong, but it was too late. The long knife impaled both her and Nina on the ground. She tried to retaliate, but her instinctively moving arm was also pierced by a dagger.
She was in excruciating pain and couldn't turn her head because the knife was still in her body.
Nina let out a painful groan, but there was nothing she could do now. Even without the knife, she couldn't move.
"You've caused me a lot of trouble." The nameless voice trembled slightly.
Large patches of black appeared on his body, marks left by the black lightning. He was almost truly struck and destroyed, reduced to something even more utterly annihilated than ashes.
Fortunately, he managed to enter the space and escape.
Wuming simply plunged the knife in, then slowly retreated until he crashed into the wall, panting heavily.
He was now completely paralyzed, and after the sneak attack, he no longer had the strength to deal with the two guys.
However, since they were both pierced through, even if they managed to break free, only the crow would have any fighting ability. Once his muscles recovered from the paralysis, dealing with these two would be a simple matter.
The crow gripped the blade and thrust it out, cutting her hand in the process. Coughing up blood, she turned and tightened her grip on her weapon, watching the man leaning against the wall regain his footing while panting.
"Heh, so they're really planning to fight." Wuming said helplessly, then took out a new weapon from his spatial storage.
He is currently unable to make better use of his abilities, as he is also in a negative state.
The crow didn't speak; it was simply adjusting its breathing.
Wuming suddenly sensed something was wrong, so he leaped backward and jumped into his own space.
Because in the next instant, the shadow that fell from the sky smashed the ground, creating large cracks. Even the ground began to shake, just like the moment an earthquake began.
Hack slowly pulled his knife from the ground, and the patterns on it came to life.
This is a strangely good knife. He looked at the guy who had fallen out not far away, his expression showing a hint of ferocity.
He arrived too late; if he had been any faster, his companion might not have been injured. Huck felt a pang of guilt, but that was something to worry about later. Now, both of them were seriously injured. Although Raven could still stand, such a penetrating wound would certainly lead to certain death if it wasn't treated and moved excessively.
He had to defeat this guy quickly, or he would have to continue his journey alone.
Hark flicked his wrist and slammed it against the hilt of his sword as he bent over. The object bounced off and blocked the projectile flying through the air. At the same time, he raised his arm and grabbed the nameless man who was trying to slit his neck with a dagger.
He was slammed to the ground, and before he could be kicked again, he retreated into his spatial dimension to avoid it.
Nameless had no intention of leaving empty-handed; he had to leave these guys here. It was already in considerable trouble, and if these problems weren't resolved, they would escalate into even bigger ones.
Huck threw his spare dagger at Nina, forcing back the guy who was trying to cut her open. He appeared on the ruins, leaped high into the air, and swung his weapon.
As Wuming dodged to the side, he struck Wuming's cheek with his shoulder. Then, their punches landed simultaneously on each other's abdomens, sending them both flying backward.
Hack spat out phlegm mixed with blood. His eyes had been slightly damaged in the attack, and his vision was a little blurry.
Even so, he could see the guy standing there, and he didn't look well either. That punch had landed squarely on his stomach. While Hack wasn't a freak, he was still strong enough to shatter bones.
Fortunately, Wuming used his spatial abilities to deflect some of the force; otherwise, he would have already collapsed to the ground.
He wandered aimlessly through the ruins, trying to find an opportunity to attack.
The nameless man was stalling for time, waiting for the two guys behind Hark to bleed to death. Especially that girl named Nina. She was a serious threat; if she wasn't dealt with, something bad would definitely happen.
"How about we each take a step back? Let's both go back, otherwise things might get complicated."
Wuming was stunned, because the voice did not come from Hack's mouth.
The sudden explosion hit him, and before he could react, he fell to the ground.
Blood was flowing from his ears and eyes at the same time, but he managed to bounce up as soon as he landed, otherwise he would have been cut off by Hack's swung blade.
In mid-air, he vaguely saw the guy gesturing something to him with his hands.
Wuming tried to create space, but he couldn't manage it until he crashed into the rubble. Broken pieces of mud sank into his body, and he looked around in disbelief.
Without realizing it, dozens of talismans floated in the air, forming a huge space that enveloped him.
His spatial abilities, which he had used as a trump card, inexplicably failed.
"You're still awake too?" Hack knew this wasn't the time to chat, but he still felt he should express his gratitude for this crucial help.
“Of course, you guys are making too much noise here.” Denos took out more talismans from his bag and threw them out; each one seemed alive, floating in the air as if hunting its prey. “Sorry, I’m late too.”
"Could you please deal with that thing?" Hack glanced at the raven who had helped Nina up, took a deep breath, and asked.
"No problem, hurry up and go there. Yak should have the medicine prepared; if we're any later, it will be too late to save him."
Denos said this, looking at the guy who crawled out of the ruins.
He looked disheveled, indeed quite disheveled. But he wasn't going to die, because his wounds were healing at a visible speed.
He is essentially classified as a monster, capable of using magic to heal himself. Therefore, these injuries are merely illusions; as long as he has enough magic, the battle will not easily come to a conclusion.
Denos watched Hark leave, then looked at the nameless man holding two new weapons, and shrugged helplessly.
“You shouldn’t be so diligent tonight,” Denos said softly. “Child, it’s time for bed.”
As he said this, he took out the dagger strapped to the side of his boot, pressed himself down on the ground, concealing the weapon in his bosom, making it difficult to predict his next attack route.
"Can you seal off space?" Wuming looked at the talismans floating in the sky and said softly, "Another sorcerer? He doesn't seem as professional as the previous one; he's just a half-baked one."
“Haha, I am indeed a novice. But you should know that my method is ineffective against real time and space-related demons. But it works perfectly against a half-baked imposter.” Denos looked at the nameless man and said with a smile, “Kid, I want to know why you would impersonate a demon.”
Wuming was stunned for a moment, then suddenly realized that this guy knew more than he thought.
"I don't know what you're talking about." He adjusted his position and kept a safe distance from Denos.
“Oh, I’m not one of those country bumpkins who’ve never seen a demon before. I’ve done a lot of research on them.” Denos said helplessly, “There are indeed demons in this city, but that’s not you. Since you’re not one, don’t bother trying to disguise yourself. You’d better just tell me who taught you how to move around in that space.”
Chunks of dirt flew everywhere, and sharp rocks pierced through the ground, deflecting the blade that was about to sever his head.
Denos flipped his dagger, the attack completed in an instant. When Nameless regained his footing, a sizable gash appeared on his arm.
The attack is launched simultaneously with the completion of the spell. As a sorcerer, he is very skilled with a sword, and melee combat is by no means a weakness. Anyone who thinks they can easily bully this guy by getting close will definitely suffer.
“Pseudo-Lightning Flash.” Denos’s voice was extremely soft, like the murmur of a mosquito.
Its posture was strange; it was the gesture of holding a long sword. But it only had a short sword in its hand.
The charge exploded with lightning on its wrist; because of Nina, the air was now filled with such electrical elements. Therefore, there was no better option than using lightning-based magic.
It was an invisible blade, filled with lightning except for the short sword portion. The entire drawing and slashing motion was fluid and seamless, as if it were truly holding such a long sword.
In the blink of an eye, the ruins in front of him were cleaved open, Wuming was sent flying, and the weapon in his hand was cut in half.
It even tried to pull out new weapons from space, countless of which were stored there. But Denos didn't give it a chance. The runes it had just thrown into the air suddenly exploded, flames rising into the sky. But they didn't dissipate; instead, they seemed to be held and imprisoned in a small circle by an invisible hand.
The fire element was thus condensed into a ball and hurled towards it.
At the same time, the earth began to tremble, and a giant mudfish emerged from the ruins, opening its massive jaws at the nameless figure. In an instant, attacks from both above and below formed a deadly encirclement.
Denos looked at the nameless creature trapped in the middle, its body bearing knife wounds. Even though magic could quickly heal wounds, these wounds were now imbued with a large amount of lightning element. Under these circumstances, even as a demon king, he couldn't instantly heal the wounds.
The attacks from the sky and the ground are about to begin; if either one hits, it will die here.
But is that all?
Denos had no intention of giving him any chance of survival. He held a small stone in his hand and drew circles in the air, forming a magic circle. He then threw a black stone from his pocket into it. It was a pure energy block, and this magic circle would trigger its purest explosion.
Denos slashed his dagger in front of him, and a barrier formed. This was because the shockwave from the ensuing explosion would blow the fragile object away, along with the chaotic elemental spread. Anything that touched that thing would be bad for it.
Everything proceeded as planned. An explosion occurred, with red and black flames surging forth. Dark gray dirt flew everywhere, forming a circle that, in theory, should have resulted in no survivors.
However, Denos still dared not let his guard down, because from the moment the explosion began, an extremely dangerous aura emanated from the center of the explosion.
It gave a few forced, dry laughs, as if celebrating its good luck.
“At least I know who the real guy is now,” Denos said softly, as if trying to sound relaxed with a light tone.
But it was all in vain, because what lay before him made him doubt whether he could make it back alive.
The nameless creature slowly rose from the ground, but it had changed. It was no longer the child it had been before, but a monster shrouded in darkness.
