Chapter 103
"Little White, I need to leave here for a while. Could you please take care of some things for me during my absence?" Benny pushed open the door and entered, startling the white fox-like creature who was sleeping on the table.
"Sorry, um." She got up from the table, wanting to apologize for falling asleep.
But before she could speak, the door to the room slammed shut, sending chills down her spine.
She knew she would get scolded if she slept at this hour, but today when Yashiro Ribeni came back, she didn't even look at her and went straight into her room.
Could it be that she's angry with herself?
She quickly pushed the door open to explain, and then she saw Benny's exquisite body with skin as white as snow.
Just a few seconds later, after she had taken off her clothes, she saw this guy push the door open and come in.
"I'm so sorry!" After a moment of stunned silence, Xiaobai realized that she might die just like that.
As she turned to leave, thinking that she might not escape her fate, Benny called out from behind.
“Perfect timing, come help me out. Benny, bring me the soft armor from the wall.” She pointed to the cabinet: “There’s a blue set inside, take a look.”
"Okay." Xiaobai quickly nodded in agreement, and then found the soft armor inside as she requested.
Although Benny is a knight, once she becomes a saint, she doesn't need to display her strength in the form of muscles. In addition, she is originally a bit thin, so she always gives people the impression of being an artistic girl.
But a normal girl wouldn't wear this outfit.
When she handed it over, Benny was patting the armor in the corner.
"Does this outfit look good?" she asked casually, wiping the surface with her hand. It was very clean, spotless because it was regularly cleaned.
"He's so handsome." Xiaobai looked at Benny, who was slightly shorter than her, and blushed.
Because right now she's just simply wrapped in bandages, and for a cute girl like her, seeing too much of that makes one feel guilty.
"Then help me put it on, this thing is a hassle to put on." Benny said, putting the soft armor on inside, and then began the whole process of putting on the armor.
This thing is a real heavy armor, forged entirely from top-quality metal, and secured with chains, making its weight an unbelievable level.
Although there was no shield behind her, there was a huge sword, a black sword, and white armor. She put on a helmet. Except for her slender and somewhat small stature, she looked like a heavily armored assassin.
This is what she wears when she goes out to fight monsters. Although it's not really useful to her except as a hindrance, she has to set an example for her subordinates to wear their armor properly.
Moreover, it would be frightening if others saw a girl carrying a sword that was almost bigger than herself and walking around aimlessly.
"What kind of monster are you going to fight this time?" Xiaobai's eyes lit up; she had never gone out with her to do such an important thing before.
She was adopted by her when she was very young, on her way back from defeating the Demon King. As a fox demon, she belonged to a relatively stable demon clan. They were on good terms with humans, but occasionally they needed to send some beautiful members of their clan to the humans who sheltered them as a token of gratitude.
She was sixteen at the time, still quite young among the fox spirits, but because of Su Bai, she became a gift. She was simply saved when she was about to die after escaping; a very simple story, no need for sentimental elaboration. In short, she unconditionally obeyed the orders of her savior and her foster mother, Benedict.
"A very troublesome monster." Benny sighed helplessly, "It's much harder to deal with than any monster I've ever encountered before."
This surprised Xiaobai, who hesitated, unsure of what to say.
Because in the past, regardless of the level of the monster she was assigned to deal with, asking this question was always the same answer.
Oh, it's a very weak thing. Make dinner and wait for me; I'll eat when I get back tonight.
That's basically how it will be.
After all, theoretically, this guy is the most outstanding person in the church right now. Who in the world could deal with such a guy?
So Xiaobai was asking a question she already knew the answer to; she just liked hearing Benny's confident reply.
But the guy's answer surprised me; he said the thing was troublesome.
What is that? A mad demon king? The gates of hell opened? An evil god unleashed from the celestial cave?
But even those things shouldn't be enough to give this guy a headache; she's a Guardian of Honor. People granted that kind of ability are generally considered invincible.
Cold sweat beaded on Xiaobai's forehead; this feeling was truly unpleasant.
Because she thought of something.
If the rumors are true, then the defenders of honor are invincible.
So how did the last champion die...?
Benny had no idea what this guy was thinking; she was just rubbing her dark circles under her eyes.
"What, what is that?" Xiaobai felt she couldn't figure out what kind of enemy she was about to face.
"That's... what's with that expression?" Benny was about to answer when she turned and saw Xiaobai looking like she was facing a formidable enemy. She had somehow changed into a close-fitting leather jacket and a hooded shawl. She was dressed entirely in white, including the large bow she was carrying.
As the saying goes, what is the courage of a common man? Nothing is more courageous than traveling in the dark in white.
It's just in line with the church's values; there's no such thing as underhanded tactics. Everything we do must be upright and honorable.
"I'm going to help. I'm a Catastrophe-level monster now, just a little short of Cataclysmic-level." Little White said very seriously, "I won't hold them back."
Although she was just an assistant, she was at least working for Benny. Over time, her concept of combat power became somewhat unbalanced. She even started to feel that unless it was a cataclysmic event, it wasn't even a unit of combat power. Weapons that weren't holy artifacts or magical devices made with the core of a demon lord shouldn't be taken seriously.
Just like the weapon she's holding now, made from the core of a storm dragon—this kind of thing is meant for the Demon King.
So she felt that she could only offer a little help in the past.
“You’ve misunderstood.” Benny looked at the guy’s eager expression and realized she hadn’t said enough.
But to be honest, I didn't really say anything to this guy. It was my fault; I was a bit too hasty.
But there's no need to rush now; there's plenty of time, so she can take a short rest.
"Misunderstand?"
“The only reason I say that guy is troublesome is because he’s my husband,” Benny said with a laugh. “If it weren’t for the fact that we’ve been too busy to have a wedding.”
"ha?"
......
"Glug glug glug, cough cough cough." The guy called Little White downed his drink in one gulp, tears streaming down his rosy face.
"cowry......"
"Don't try to fool me, you can drink way more than this." Benny snatched the bottle from her hand, downed it in one gulp, and then tossed the bottle back.
"You can't drink now!" Xiaobai said with a pained expression as he put the bottle away and placed it aside. He took a deep breath and slowly lay down.
"Stop talking nonsense." Benny picked up another bottle of wine, tossed it high in the air before Xiaobai could snatch it, and then pulled her into her arms. She caught it with her other hand and started chugging it down her throat.
"Don't you not drink alcohol?" Xiaobai puffed out her cheeks in annoyance.
“That’s because I don’t like guys who mess things up when they’re drunk, and I’m no exception,” Benny said softly.
"Yaseli, you've really had a bit too much to drink."
“When did you start talking so much?” Benny looked at the guy in front of her. “Even saints have no right to criticize me, so you guys should shut up.”
“That’s because there’s no one of higher rank than you. But I’m not in the church, so I’m your friend. It’s only natural that I offer you a little something now and then.” The person in front of her turned around and said to Benny.
"Then don't call me Eight Colors Glass. I get angry when I hear that. Only people in the church system would call me that."
“Eight Colors Glass is a very nice name, but I would prefer to use an even nicer name,” she replied softly.
Benny's expression twitched: "What misunderstanding do you have about my name?"
“No, I know that's the name that guy gave you. So I'm just angry about his naming style. It's a country girl's name. He was just mocking you.” The guy continued, “But you did agree to it.”
“But I really think it’s good, it sounds better than being called the Three,” Benny sighed.
“It’s like you were once called Three, and then you changed your name to Benny. Now you just have a new name, Yasiro Riki. This is your current name, a name that inherits the honor of your ancestors,” the man in front continued.
“That’s why I said you’re annoying. How could I not know that?” Benny looked at her. “Speaking of which, it’s amazing that you would actually take the time to follow me around.”
"It's just because I'm also that guy's friend, and I happen to be working in that city."
"Hmm, make me a new weapon when you have time. The one next to me is too old." Benny looked at her and said, "Swordsmith, that's a strange name, isn't it?"
“It’s alright, I’ve used far stranger names than this.” The swordsmith took a deep breath, then looked ahead. “But I used to be part of the system. At least I was a practitioner. Now, are you my superior?”
"I think so. Didn't Ark try to seduce you? Judging by the timeline, you knew him before I did."
“That guy has always been indifferent to sex, you know that better than I do.” The swordsmith took a deep breath to catch his breath. “But being an ascetic is really a headache.”
Is it true or false that people feel uncomfortable if they don't self-harm for a day?
"It's true, that's why I've been hammering even harder lately."
As the knifesmith spoke, she stood up, and the sound of metal clashing came from behind her.
"My god, do you carry this thing around when you drive it? Don't you feel it's heavy?" When Benny saw the guy clearly, she had finally shaken off the drunken stupor she had just managed to get and regained her senses.
“It’s part of self-harm, I suppose,” the swordsmith said, his messy brown hair sliding down his shoulders.
This is a woman who seems fairly normal, except for the six differently shaped swords crossed on the special weapon rack on her back, nine long weapons also crossed, a longbow and a heavy crossbow, and a box she is carrying.
Ascetics are the most physically enhanced among the high-ranking clergy. Over the past century, the swordsmith's combat style has been improved to rely on weapons to compensate for insufficient damage in order to achieve the goal of defeating the enemy.
Each one is a sacred relic, and currently, she makes nearly one-fifth of the sacred relic manufacturing in the church.
"But speaking of which, Ark knows a lot of incredible guys. I only just found out that you know that guy too, and we've only met less than three times before, so we can't really be considered friends."
“But you’re riding my earth dragon right now, and I’m the one taking the precautions. And to be precise, the child agreed,” the swordsmith said, looking at Xiaobai.
“Sorry, this guy gave me my bow.” Xiaobai scratched his head: “When I got this thing, you didn’t ask me exactly where I got it from.”
“Now I understand.” Benny nodded, then continued drinking.
“You really drank too much today.” The knifesmith sat down next to her and took out a bottle of wine as well.
“I need this to remember some things,” Benny said softly. “Want to hear a story? I need to figure out why I made that promise with that guy, and why I helped him with his funeral arrangements for so long. It’s been so long. He hasn’t contacted me, and I haven’t contacted him either. And now that I’m going to see him, I find myself feeling a little like a stranger to him.”
"Yeah, yeah!" Xiao Bai's slight intoxication subsided, "That guy must have been trying to confuse you."
“Yes, I’ve always had my doubts too.” Benny sighed. “It’s because that guy’s ability can guide people’s subconscious.”
"Then hurry up and break off the engagement with that guy!" Xiaobai agreed.
“I was surprised too, but not on your side, but on why Ark agreed,” the swordsmith said. “Then let’s discuss it and talk about what kind of guy he is. But speaking of which, I met him about four hundred years ago, a little earlier than you, but I don’t really know him. Perhaps we should find more people to talk to about him.”
“Heh, but it’s just us here.” Benny paused and said, “Speaking of which, you all know about the abilities of the Honor Guardians, right?”
"You can't say that!" Little White tried to shut Beni up, but she overheard the knifesmith's explanation before she could.
“If you want to win, you can’t lose.” The swordsmith paused and said, “What an unreasonable ability.”
"It's an easy way to misunderstand, but that's pretty much the gist of it."
