Chapter Ninety-Eight
"Eek!" Leili was startled by the suddenly spilled tea and quickly moved the documents that were almost soiled from a distance. At the same time, she wiped the water off them with a handkerchief.
"This is important information!" She said with a mournful face, holding the document under the light. After examining it carefully for a while, she slowly let out a long sigh.
Fortunately, the tea did not cause any actual damage, and the contents on it were still clearly visible.
She felt a little dizzy; she hadn't rested for almost forty hours. The long working hours were taking their toll, and her eyes were bloodshot. She took out some eye drops from her pocket to slightly reduce the redness under her eyes.
"What, what are you going to do?" Lady asked, her voice trembling with tears, looking at the man and saying, "It hurts so much."
"Just bear with it a little longer, and you'll become a demon soon," Riley said casually. "Many people want to become one but don't have the chance."
Lady had been removed from the container, her limbs were chained, and she was tied to a cross.
It is indeed a cross, a symbol full of religious significance.
Lady was bleeding, as she had been pierced in multiple places.
"It really does look almost exactly like a human." Riley laughed as she looked at Lady's panicked expression at being treated this way. "Even the skin is designed in large patches? It's really nice, very pretty."
Lady's body lacks the obvious mechanical joints of other dolls, instead possessing a body almost identical to a human's. This is true everywhere. After all, the creators put in a lot of effort. To ensure the skin adhered like a real person, only twenty-five small openings and one large opening were left on her entire body. These openings were sealed with sol-gel, resulting in a body virtually indistinguishable from a real person.
This presented her with a challenge, as Lady's entire body was covered by skin, and it incorporated many of the shapes and proportions of human organs. It took her a long time to find the "repair point."
The so-called repair points are special sections on the doll's body designed for easy maintenance; once powered on, the entire doll can be rendered completely paralyzed.
This is why Lady was bleeding. In order to open these acupoints, she was first given several wounds on her skin so that she could be left there completely without any ability to resist.
The next step was the final one. Riley looked at the jar on the table; it was the last thing she had to do.
This is something that has been in preparation all along, and only now has the license to use it been obtained.
That's a demonic seal, extracted from the soul of a demon. Demons are demons because they were granted powers by a demon god. Through long-term research, it has been confirmed that a substance can be extracted from the soul of a demon that, upon fusion, can transform someone into a demon. This substance has been named the demonic seal.
Experiments on living people have always ended in failure, which is understandable; the Demon God probably wouldn't be happy to have his chosen successor arbitrarily changed. Therefore, once someone is given a demonic mark, in addition to power, they are also given a curse.
There are all sorts of curses, from burning the whole body to turning into nothingness, to starving to death because one can't absorb energy. Or turning into a monster, the least severe of which is losing all five senses and becoming a complete cripple.
The research on the magic seal was conducted after Lady escaped, which Krypton was unaware of; Lady completed it all by herself.
But she had a new idea: what if the creature being fused was neither a monster nor a human?
It's not even considered a living thing.
So what will happen?
The worst outcome is simply failing and then trying again in a different way.
Riley got up from her seat, took a scalpel from the table next to her, walked over to Lady, and pulled down part of her clothes to expose her chest, ignoring her screams. Then she cut a gash in it with the scalpel.
"It hurts so much." Lady felt tears welling up in her eyes, but because she was frozen in place, she couldn't even switch to a state of suppressing her emotions.
"Bear with it for a moment." Riley wiped her hands with a handkerchief, looking at what was exposed beneath her skin. Blood flowed from the opening in her skin, tracing a crimson path down her body. And beneath the wound was a faint blue pattern.
“No matter how many times I watch it, I still have to admire his mastery of alchemy,” Leili said, taking a thin copper rod from her pocket and inserting it into the narrow opening.
Lady's pupils contracted, and then she slowly stopped breathing. She closed her eyes.
Blue light simultaneously illuminated the shoulders, top of the head, lower abdomen, and ankles. The blue light beneath the skin looked like an illuminated lamp.
This is Lady's key. Actually, as a doll, Lady still needs some maintenance. So this key was kept for repair and maintenance.
Cold air seeped out from the tiny hole, and frost formed around the cut. The cylindrical jar inside popped out, exactly the same size as the jar in her hand.
Riley carefully placed the can on the table next to her, but before it was fully settled, it shook again, and both cans rolled off the table at the same time. She managed to catch them before they hit the ground, risking falling herself.
"Are you there?" She heard the synthesized voice coming from the small opening on her collar.
"Why is it so noisy outside?" Riley frowned and said in a dissatisfied voice.
"That's a bit unexpected, but I'd like to know what's going on on your end?"
"Just one last step. After each step of the alchemical puppet's process is complete, it needs about three minutes for the internal parts to operate automatically. Otherwise, it's prone to damage." Leili paused and said, "It will probably take another half hour."
"No, that's too slow. You move now, and I'll try to stall for time."
"Ha, you sound like you're in a mess." Leili paused. "The transfer will take time, so please give me about an hour. If it fails, we'll do it the way we originally agreed. If it succeeds, I'll have to put in some extra effort."
There was no reply, and she didn't expect one. She took a cube from the table, set the timer, and placed it on the table. Then, she quickly gathered her important belongings, put them in her bag, and carried it on her back.
The crucifix was placed down, and she pulled the head further in. Lady, completely unconscious, was then placed down.
After leaving, the block on the table exploded, completely destroying it into ruins.
This is to buy time, as replacing this part is very troublesome and she needs time.
......
“The monsters outside have gone berserk, and that silly kid Karl has already charged in,” Apari said, looking at the expressionless Ark beside her. “Looks like you’re not worried.”
“I’m not worried about the qualifications of a high-ranking priest, and he’s always known that his life isn’t something to be taken lightly. I’m not worried about him.” Ack paused and said, “I’m only worried about Lady. Everyone else can take good care of themselves, except for that guy. I’m worried about the child. She’s not capable of taking care of herself. If we let her out now, she’ll die.” Ack’s voice was soft, but it was clear enough to hear.
“I think you’re just a womanizer. You only think about how to get your hands on cute girls.” Apari looked at Yak and said with a soft laugh, “I don’t believe you would consider someone else’s death a big deal to you.”
“I hate the people who die because of me, especially those I know. I will live a very, very long time, and these sins will weigh me down like a burden. One day my neck will be bent.”
"Then you should just keep your back hunched over. You've reached the age where you should be hunching over."
"That won't do. As a businessman, one must have a straight back."
The conversation took place in a room that had been burned black. It took them some effort to find the way there, and the two of them went inside.
The others are all outside because of the rampage caused by that enormous monster; they need troops there.
To kill that giant creature, you must destroy its magic core; for a normal person to deal with that monster is practically a pipe dream.
However, the suppression is sufficient. The materials used for those dolls were all created by Apari's abilities, so there is no need to worry about losses.
Two people are enough here, no, you could say more than enough.
Aparie looked around: "It seems this place has been severely damaged. The space here is a complex structure and has been altered. It's like a non-existent palace. The area must be quite large."
Yak watched as Aparie wheeled herself to the wall, and the charred wall instantly turned into crystal.
At the same time, Yak saw that behind the wall was a huge space.
"Can you help me break it?" Apari paused and said, "You're familiar with my abilities; I can simply change anything in the space that I want. For example, turning a burnt-out wall into crystal, or turning air into iron. The limitation is that I can't change anything containing holy magic or magical power. If I want to destroy it directly, I still need to use magic. But you know, it's very difficult for me to mobilize magic right now."
"Can't you turn the crystal back into air?"
"No problem, but things I've modified can't be modified a second time in a minute. In other words, you could have easily smashed this thing in style, and now you've missed a great opportunity to pick up girls."
The moment those words were spoken, the crystal wall vanished completely.
“I’m always amazed when I see you use your abilities.” Ark ignored the guy’s sarcasm in the second half and looked at the person in front of him: “One minute is a lie, right? It’s been forty-six seconds in total from now until now.”
“I was just giving a rough estimate, you’re such a pain. I really think you’re a bit boring now, and if you weren’t my friend, I wouldn’t put up with you.” Aparie said this as her wheelchair slowly moved forward, entering the large space.
“What a spacious place.” Yak looked around and paused before saying, “This place is very suitable for use, whether as a place to live or to try growing crops.”
The area is frighteningly large; the area visible to the naked eye is all empty except for the surrounding walls.
“Do you feel it’s empty? Actually, to me it’s full.” Apari paused and said, “Air, and the pervasive time, space, light, even darkness... I only have one head right now, but it’s receiving too much information.”
As she spoke, she slowly entered the space: "Do you remember the ability I briefly possessed? The ability to rewrite time and space. That experience allowed me to see everything from different perspectives. At the same time, it made me very aware of my current powerlessness."
She paused, but only briefly. After that, Yak's expression softened, and a fleeting look of confusion crossed her eyes.
"You haven't given up on your original plan yet?" Yak walked in and sighed helplessly.
"I gave up long ago."
"So what are you doing now?"
“I’m just annoyed, really annoyed. The time and space lines of this world have been locked down by that guy called the Guardian.” Apali paused, “In order to keep this world going, he used the most domineering methods.”
“You still want to rebel against the church, don’t you?” Ark said softly. “Just tell me the truth. I’m not an unreasonable guy.”
“This kind of talk still infuriates me,” Apari paused, then said, “Do you know why I brought you here?”
“I think I understand,” Ark said, looking at the sealed gap behind him.
Those were diamonds; his back was sealed off by diamonds.
"It's forty minutes in total. I don't mean anything by it. I just need to drag this out for that amount of time."
In just a moment, the entire room was filled with mercury.
“I thought you would use something even more extreme, after all, last time you filled the space with pure black gold.” Ark looked at Apali and communicated with her through direct mental connection.
“But you cracked it, didn’t you? So this time I made changes specifically targeting your ability.” Apari paused. “Didn’t you infuse the mercury with magic? Aren’t you afraid I’ll just fill it with something else?”
“It doesn’t matter, because just like before, you’ll still avoid yourself.” A familiar voice came from behind. Apari sighed helplessly and turned her wheelchair around to look at Ark.
"Come on, now we can talk about anything without worry." Yak finally couldn't hold back anymore and revealed a helpless smile.
He smiled, and he looked very happy.
"How about this disguise? Even if the church observes this place, they'll assume it's just the two of us fighting each other. I'll dictate the script to you later, remember to act it out, otherwise you'll be in a lot of trouble if they notice anything amiss, won't you?"
“You know how many ‘eyes’ are watching us right now?” Yak said helplessly. “But you’ve become smarter and have come up with a lot of ways to deal with the church.”
