Chapter 158 After the Disaster (4)

Chapter 158

Benny used her holy magic to push the collapsed building apart and looked at the thing that had made the sound.

She could only describe it as a thing; she didn't want to call it a person.

He was cut open starting at the waist, but the wound was still healing. The healing wound was filled with stones. His two arms were pressed together by tons of stones. Because of the fire, his eyes and the skin on his body were burned off, and his whole body was as black as charcoal, with pink blood flowing from the burn wounds.

She instinctively covered her mouth and nose; the thing reeked of a foul stench and was a disgusting mess.

But then she heard laughter; this guy was actually laughing.

"Good luck, good luck, I thought it would be several more years before I could get out." The guy was spitting out blood as he spoke, his crushed internal organs coming out, but he was laughing so loudly, like a demon who had escaped a heavenly calamity.

No one would want to match this guy's laughter, which was so reckless, like a vengeful ghost who had indulged in pleasure before death.

After a long silence, Benny said softly, "Actually, I really want to say that you're about to die. Now that the Benevolent One is gone, I can't heal this kind of wound. But before that, I want to ask you how you survived."

"Who knows?" After saying that, the thing shut its mouth and made no sound, as if it were truly dead.

Benny turned to leave. She wondered how this guy had managed to survive until now, but no matter how optimistic she was, she shouldn't think he could continue to live.

But just as she was about to leave, she suddenly turned around and stared at the thing in shock.

He was still breathing, albeit very weakly, but after a period of silence, he resumed his faint breathing.

What exactly is this thing?

Benny's dagger slashed through the air, severing both of his arms. They were now nothing but a burden to him.

Then I simply hoisted him onto my shoulder, even though the guy reeked of burnt flesh and had blood on me. I didn't know why this thing was so sturdy, but I decided to take him back anyway.

He's trying very hard to survive, so I don't mind helping him out.

"Thank you." Halfway through, Benny heard this faint voice.

"It was nothing." Benny was surprised that this guy could still speak, even though he had burned so badly that his lips were gone, leaving only an empty tooth.

That's a disgusting monster that sends chills down your spine. The fact that it's still alive isn't just surprising, it's utterly disgusting. Purely disgusting.

It's no surprise that this guy is Ghost Duke, who was buried in Denos's house for a little over three days.

The burns were sustained in the last half day. It has to be said that burns and electrical injuries represent two kinds of insane pain. Even though I've become so used to it, it still hurts terribly when I experience it again.

It's the same now, it really hurts. It can feel the excruciating pain in the charred parts of its body.

But it knew that it only needed to endure it, and after a while, it would return to its previous human form. This injury was nothing to it; it was so weak right now, yet it just couldn't die.

Perhaps the best reward is to be able to die, to be able to return to peace.

But right now, all I want is to get a good night's sleep. And ideally, never wake up again.

When it opened its eyes, it saw an unfamiliar ceiling. It hadn't seen a familiar ceiling in ages. The ceiling was made of stone and looked very sturdy. It resembled a prison cell; perhaps it was locked up inside.

It doesn't matter which outcome it takes, as it hasn't fully recovered yet. Its limbs have only recovered a little. Therefore, it still has no means of movement and can only stay huddled under the covers, just like before.

There's even a blanket? It seems my treatment is alright. Ghost Duke slowly turned his head and looked at the other girl lying on the bed.

She was a very beautiful girl. Perhaps the reason Ghost Lord didn't give up on himself in this world was because he often saw beautiful girls. Only when he saw someone like that could he feel a little bit of reality. Maybe the world wasn't so bad after all; at least it was similar to the otherworlds he'd heard about, with beautiful girls everywhere.

It's none of my business. I'm really lucky to be lying in the same room as this girl this time. Maybe when I wake up I can have a good chat with her.

Or perhaps, it was a dead person, after all, it looked so pale, like a zombie.

Ghost Duke tried to get up, struggling to stand up while bending over, then stopped in that spot, carefully observing its body.

The recovery has actually been pretty good. New skin has grown to replace the burned skin, and it looks just like when I first arrived. The little muscle I painstakingly built up has returned to the level of an average, sedentary college student.

This time, my hand was broken, which is terrible. I don't know how I would have gotten through this period without my hand.

It thought for a while and realized that it was still clean and not wearing anything. It glanced at the girl next to it, hesitated for a moment, and then crawled back into bed.

Although I don't know who this is, I really don't want others to dislike me.

Ghost Duke mentally calculated how long it would take for his injuries to heal. His legs would take the longest, probably another four days. His arms, however, should have grown back by tonight.

Well, at least the burn problem is solved now. If the skin were still those hard, black lumps, it would be really ugly, and people would hate it.

Who helped him this time? Ghost Duke didn't know, after all, his eyes had been burned off back then. So he hadn't seen what his savior was doing.

Perhaps the city was cleaned up, and I was brought back as something that could be recycled and reused.

Thinking this, Ghost Duke looked closely at the guy's face and realized he seemed to recognize him. She was Nina, the girl who was with Denos.

It was just that her face was too pale, and because it was a side profile, that it was impossible to tell who she was.

Speaking of which, it seems her lower leg was cut off.

Ghost Duke hesitated, thinking that the people here seemed different from him, and it would be quite troublesome if his limbs were cut off.

It would be a pity if such a beautiful girl had to spend her whole life in a wheelchair. After all, she used to look so graceful and elegant. If she wore a beautiful dress and twirled around in the lobby, she would be so beautiful that it would soften people's hearts.

But if she can't recover now, perhaps all I'll see is a beautiful doll sitting in a wheelchair. Lifeless, just sitting there.

Ghost Duke was lost in thought, and when she came to her senses again, she was already awake. She turned her head to look at Ghost Duke beside her and gave him a helpless smile.

“You’re a monster,” Nina said softly. “You really scared me when you first came.”

"When I first arrived?" Ghost Duke hesitated, trying to recall the extent of his injuries. But he found himself unable to understand it; only some lingering pain remained.

“Hmm, it’s hard to believe you’re still alive.” Nina turned to look at the ceiling. “But you seem to be alright now.”

Ghost Duke stretched out his barely grown arm from under the covers and said, "No, no, no, look, I'm still just a bald stick, only my torso has recovered."

“Really?” Nina said, looking at the arm. “It’s so thin. Do you often go hungry? It doesn’t look like it.”

Ghost Duke's current appearance is exactly the same as before he transmigrated here; every time he gets injured in a vital area, he is reset to his original state. He's the guy who gets tired and needs to rest even when climbing stairs.

"It's only because of an unhealthy diet that I'm so thin," Ghost Duke said. "I've never been hungry."

"Really? Where are you from? Is there plenty of food?" Nina paused, then added, "And what is health?"

"Health means that the food we eat contains the nutrients that the human body needs, and that eating it will benefit us. So we should have a balanced diet, eating more vegetables and less meat for three meals a day." Ghost Duke casually spouted nonsense: "I'm from another world! It's so much better there than here. We have plenty of food, and we don't have to think about problems like food, clothing, shelter, and transportation. Everyone can go to school, and we have the freedom to think about what the future holds."

As he spoke, he thought about where he had been before.

When I was in school, I thought it was a really boring place. There was no magic, and most of the girls weren't even close to the level of anime characters. Only video games could bring me fleeting happiness. Even when I was on a plane, I would think that if the plane crashed, I would be transported to another world.

I never expected that I would actually come here, and that I would actually see Kami (the Japanese word for god). When those things that were originally just in my imagination suddenly appeared before my eyes, the first thing I thought of was that I had finally come to a very interesting place, and I was overjoyed about it.

He never expected, never expected, that his life would be so fulfilling. Now he was lying in a strange place receiving treatment, and the whole story made him completely unconcerned that his life would be dull and boring from now on.

"Really?" Nina was a little incredulous. She turned to look at Ghost Duke, about to make a sarcastic remark, but then froze.

When he talked about his hometown, his expression suddenly became strange. Tears streamed down his face silently. He was expressionless, and it was impossible to tell whether he was happy or sad.

Missing home?

"Hmm, I miss home," Ghost Duke said softly. "You know what? Vegetables aren't just potatoes, corn, and cabbage. Fruits aren't just apples and oranges. Clothes aren't just made of linen. There's a material called cotton that can be used to make clothes, and pure cotton clothes are very comfortable to wear."

“I’m sorry, I don’t know.” Nina looked at him, paused for a moment, and then asked, “Are you from this so-called heaven?”

"Who knows? There are many people in my world who also want to go to heaven," Ghost Duke said softly. "Maybe it's just because I came to hell that I feel like the human world is heaven."

“Maybe.” Nina looked at him for a while, then continued staring at the ceiling.

Do you believe it?

"Believe in what?"

"About the fact that I came from another world."

"Dubious."

Ghost Duke smiled helplessly: "In the end, you still don't believe it, do you?"

Nina closed her eyes; she needed rest, as keeping her eyes open was itself a drain on her energy. "Does anyone believe me?"

"Yes, I have."

Does anyone not believe it?

"Yes, I have."

"Those who are still skeptical?"

"There are more."

Is there a difference?

"No, because all those people are dead now," Ghost Duke said softly. "The dead are equal, no matter who they are."

“Yes, once we die, we’re all the same,” Nina said softly. “If there’s an afterlife, I hope I can be reborn into the world you mentioned.”

"Great! If there were a girl as beautiful as you in our world, I wonder how many people would fight over you." Ghost Duke chuckled. "That's wonderful. When I was your age, I hadn't even graduated from university yet. Everyone else was out doing internships, but I didn't have any skills and stayed in my dorm drawing and writing novels, always hoping that one day I could support myself with this kind of thing. Who knew I'd die suddenly before that happened?"

"And what is a university?"

"Schools are places where children learn. Every child goes to school, all the way up to high school, and then takes an exam to decide whether or not to go to college."

“Exams… I just remembered that I accidentally injured my partner during an exam, burning half of his body.” Nina said softly, “You passed the exam, which means you’re alright.”

"Haha, we don't have that kind of ability. Our exams are just about writing things down." Ghost Duke thought for a while and then said, "There is no magic or sorcery in our world. Assassins and soldiers are not usually seen. Priests and priests in the church are often called liars."

"That's great," Nina said with a smile.

"Do you think it's good?" Ghost Duke was stunned. He used to live in a very boring place, which is why he always wanted to do something exciting.

“It’s really good, it puts my mind at ease. I don’t have to worry about never waking up again one day.” Nina said softly, “Honestly, if there is an afterlife, I wish I could be born in that world.”

Ghost Duke opened his eyes and continued staring at the stone ceiling, shaking his head helplessly.

When I tried to speak again, the girl had already fallen asleep. She was very weak and needed to rest after saying only a few words.

I should probably take a nap; I think I recover faster when I'm asleep.

However, it seems I was so busy chatting that I didn't ask clearly where I was.

Never mind, it doesn't matter where it is.
