Chapter 159
When Ghost Duke woke up again, half a day had passed once more. He turned his head, and Nina was still asleep.
Did you not sleep for long?
Thinking this, he looked at his arm, which was already half recovered. Based on this, he estimated that about half a day to a day had passed.
It seems like he slept very soundly. If he had been able to sleep this well before he transmigrated, he probably wouldn't have died suddenly.
He continued staring at the ceiling, his stomach rumbling.
I'm a little hungry, but it's nothing serious. Since I'm essentially living in a world where death is inevitable, I won't starve. Besides, I can eat myself; I'll just grow back anyway, and my stomach will feel full.
But let's go hungry for now, otherwise we might scare people.
Then he suddenly smelled the aroma of food. He watched as the door opened and Denos walked into the room carrying two servings of mashed potatoes.
"That's strange, you're actually awake." Denos looked at him, a little surprised, with his eyes open. "You'll have to wait a bit, I need to go get another one."
"It's alright." Ghost Duke looked at the thing, genuinely a little tempted.
Potatoes are indeed the best vegetable in the world; even in his previous world, he loved them. Even without any side dishes, mashed potatoes topped with broth were delicious.
Although the meat is precious, it's still worthwhile to make it into broth. Judging from the smell, it's not human flesh that's unusual.
But thinking about it, it makes sense. Although the great disaster has passed and many people have died, the amount of food actually available is still limited. And even if some were transported back, quite some time has passed, and the meat would likely have spoiled by now.
So it should be mutton; there are sheep farms here. Although I didn't see how they were raised, there are definitely sheep. The so-called animal hides are mostly sheepskins, and the wool and meat produced are quite profitable. Plus, they can be fed with just plants.
The door opened, and Denos walked in carrying two cooked potatoes, which he then placed on Ghost Duke's bedside table.
"Do you need me to feed you?" Denos looked at him and said, "Or you can figure out how to eat yourself."
"Hey, why isn't mine mashed potatoes?" Ghost Duke looked helplessly at the two cooked potatoes, and roughly understood that the mashed potatoes were a special treat that Denos had prepared for Nina, probably cooked by himself after bringing them over.
As expected, cute girls are treated differently from me. Is this the stench of love? I'm still a single dog here, and I'll probably be full just eating dog food (a Chinese slang term for witnessing romantic relationships).
"One is enough for me, you can keep this potato." Ghost Duke looked at the two potatoes and smiled helplessly.
The land in the safe zone looks incredibly fertile, but it seems they said it used to be paradise? I inquired around and it seems there's no concept of fertilizer or barren land here. As long as you're in this area, even polluted land outside can quickly become fertile.
I don't eat much, so I really can't finish this potato, which is about the size of two fists.
“Don’t worry about food. Many people died this time, but we have enough to eat.” Denoston paused and said, “Even this disaster didn’t destroy a single field so that we could feed more people. We need help with the harvest in a few days. Do you want to work after you’ve grown up? The pay is decent.”
"Want to go work in the fields?" Ghost Duke thought for a moment and said, "Sure."
Does this mean I can stay here long-term? Forget it, I shouldn't think about that too much. The last time I thought like that, a sudden disaster wiped out everything I'd worked so hard to build.
But this is something I can do next, and I can at least help in some way. I'm not completely useless.
"Let someone else do that kind of work." The door was suddenly pushed open, and an old man wearing a straw hat stood in the doorway, saying, "Are you called Ghost Duke? That's a very strange name. Do you have a moment to spare?"
“If I could, I would love to go out.” Ghost Duke stretched half of his leg out from under the covers, showing it the leg that was still growing back. “But as you can see, I can’t go anywhere.”
After a few seconds of silence, the withered voice sighed helplessly.
“If you’re going to do something risqué, go outside.” Denos looked at him with anger in his eyes: “This whole thing started because of you.”
“I have nothing to say. I will accept the punishment afterward, but I am not ashamed of my motives. I did what I had to do, and I have no regrets.” Fei raised his hand, and starting from his shoulder, his entire upper body was burned to ashes.
The flames that erupted from who-knows-where burned him almost instantly. Denos raised his hand expressionlessly, and the fork in his hand shot straight at him, piercing his heart and embedding itself in the wall behind him.
"What are you doing?" The burned parts of the waste peeled off like a hard shell, while the injured areas began to grow back.
It's just like a towering tree that grows without restraint.
“Because of you, my girlfriend lost both legs, and I lost my home and the school my father spent his whole life building!” Denos’s voice grew softer and softer until finally, only anger remained: “And I was so powerless that I couldn’t stop anything, so of course I have to take my anger out on the culprit, right?”
His fingers tugged behind his back, and talismans, placed somewhere unknown, wrapped around Fei's body. An irresistible gravity, appearing in strange shapes from all directions, suppressed him, and in an instant, all the bones in Fei's newly regenerated body were twisted and shattered. A long-handled broadsword shot out from under Ghost Duke's bed, viciously piercing through his neck and completely locking his cervical vertebrae.
Will this make you feel better?
Even this attack only elicited a nonchalant remark from the guy. He shook his head helplessly at the gritting-teeth Denos, then a hand grew from his neck, grabbed the necklace around his neck, and tossed it to Nina.
The moment the stone touched her body, her two severed lower legs were completely restored.
"This isn't really compensation, it's just my duty." The cripple pulled a long sword from his body, wiped it clean with a handkerchief he found somewhere, and placed it against the wall. He slowly walked towards Ghost Duke, who was enjoying a VIP seat watching the spectacle, completely absorbed in what had just happened. "The specific compensation measures will be implemented within five years. My punishment will be nothing more than some physical torture, which will likely be carried out after we return. If you're still not satisfied, you can come back with me then, and you can wield the sword."
It spoke as if it were something completely unrelated to itself, merely stating facts without any emotion, as if such an event had simply occurred and was nothing strange about it. The fact that it would be the one to be torn to pieces seemed utterly irrelevant to it.
Then no one spoke. Fei took Ghost Duke by the arm and led him away. Denos watched him leave with a hateful look in his eyes.
The entire room was in complete chaos. In order to increase the damage without causing further destruction, he used spatial magic to compress the original forbidden technique, Heaven-Burning Incantation. Even though he had prepared the spell for three days, along with gravity control and the famous sword technique, it was still incomplete.
This feeling is infuriating! I was so serious and tried so hard to get revenge on this guy, using all my skills to set traps... and then he didn't take it seriously at all, as if I had just lost my temper and cursed at him a couple of times, and then he generously forgave me.
In the end, he still did nothing to stop it; it still took Ghost Duke away, and the potato was still on the bedside table, still warm.
"Don't be reckless. That guy is on a completely different level from us," Nina said, opening her eyes. "It's an ability we can't comprehend."
“Yes, I knew that all along,” Denos said softly.
He wanted to say something more, but Nina, who had sat up, suddenly hugged his head and gently rubbed the messy hair on his head.
"Thank you," Nina said, "though it's hardly a repayment."
"Hey, what are you doing?" Denos quickly broke free and saw Nina tilting her head and looking at him.
"You just said I was your girlfriend." Nina smiled. "Did you really mean that?"
"We'll talk about that later, when your injury is healed?" Denos changed the subject, rubbing his hair as he asked.
The blanket was pulled back, and the newly grown calves looked exactly the same as before.
“Not just here, I feel like all the negative effects have been completely wiped away.” Nina slowly lowered her head and said, “I always thought that instant recovery was just an exaggeration... but it seems to be true. That adult has such an ability.”
She looked at the small stone sitting next to the pillow. The stone had completely lost its luster and was cracked, looking like a disposable item.
“I’ve heard Ark talk about it; it’s the power of the Benevolent Ones.” Denost paused. “This is the first time I’ve seen it, and I’ve never experienced being healed by that power. Ark said it’s like time suddenly stopped, and when you come to your senses, the previous injuries seem like a nightmare.”
......
"Hey, you piece of trash, what are you doing now?" Benny stood at the door, veins bulging on her forehead.
"Good afternoon, sir." Fei turned around and slowly bowed to her: "As you can see, I want to find out what kind of eccentric you have brought back."
He slowly raised one of his hands, a hand that grew behind his back, and it was grasping a heart.
Then it was crushed in front of Benny.
"As you can see, in the past half hour, I've dismembered this boy, removed his internal organs, taken his head, and cut him into pieces." He rubbed the mangled flesh on the ground with his cane. "But even so, the regeneration rate of his internal organs, heart, and torso is still..."
He was pierced through the chest by the sword again, and blood slowly flowed from his wound.
Fei spat out a mouthful of blood and looked at Benedictine standing in front of him, saying, "Hey, Lady Yasuri, what are you doing now?"
“You bastard, that’s the question I should be asking.” Benny practically forced out every word: “This is the person I rescued, why did you do this without my permission?”
The moment the door opened, the entire room was laid bare. Ghost Duke had been reduced to a portable form, and the floor of the room was covered with his body parts.
"Sir, do you know what this is?" Fei looked at her and said, "Could you please stop spinning the knife? It hurts."
"Do you have a clue?"
"No, I've never heard of such a strange fellow in this world." Fei shook his head. "This guy has no holy magic, no magical power, this body hasn't undergone any training, let alone possess any magical seal or divinely bestowed abilities. But as you can see..."
The hand behind him rummaged through the pile of his body and then pulled out another heart.
"As you can see, he is still alive." Fei's voice slowly turned cold. He tossed the heart into a corner and watched as muscles suddenly grew around it, and his cervical vertebrae and sternum grew rapidly.
Benny looked at the lump of something, also a little confused.
“That’s someone beyond our comprehension.” Fei looked at her and said, “As a disciple of the Benevolent One, I feel it is my duty to find out which side this guy is on, whether he is human, monster, or a lone wolf.”
“You’ve gone too far,” Benny said softly. “I’ve always hated the Merciful One. It’s like she’ll peel off the skin off the person she’s interrogating, and then let new skin grow back, over and over again, until she gets bored.”
"Actually, human skin is also a good material. None of it was wasted; it was all made into useful things." Fei laughed and said, "I've been skinned quite a few times. To be honest, even now, it still hurts a lot."
“I’ve had enough of talking to you.” Benny didn’t want to argue with this stubborn old man. She casually used the knife in her hand to cut off its head, then turned around and picked up the large chunk of flesh that had restored the chest cavity, placing it on the table next to her.
“I’m taking this back with me.” Fei looked at Benny and said, “This is a very important discovery, and our church needs the information this guy can provide.”
"You mean this guy has to keep enduring the experiments you just did?" Benny's eyes gleamed with a golden light. "There's a limit to jokes, and this kind of heavy-handed joke is pointless."
“Let’s make a deal.” Fei looked at her and said, “I will stop chasing the Demon God Seed and try my best to dissuade the Benevolent One. In exchange, I will trade this guy.”
"no."
"I have already made huge concessions."
“The conditions are unreasonable. I don’t care what you want to do to the Demon Race, I just want you to stay away from Ark.” Benedict looked at the cripple and said, “No matter the reason, I don’t want Ark to be in danger because of you and that bitch, understand?”
