Chapter 120 Long Time No See (3)

Chapter 120

On her first day as a mercenary, Deedris was taught a truth: there is no safe place in this world.

Because of the timing, this became one of her creeds. And it became utter skepticism; she was never truly at ease. Even when drunk, she always had room to fight.

So when she arrived in this city, she felt someone was watching her, even though she didn't notice who it was or had any concrete evidence to support her intuition. She still believed it was undeniable because the city wasn't safe, and it was all too easy to understand why someone wanted to harm her.

So she had to eliminate this danger, even though her original plan was to return to the mercenary guild branch as soon as she got back. Firstly, to see if there were any missions available, and secondly, to collect her latest paycheck. At her level as a mercenary, as long as she was on standby, she would receive a salary.

Secondly, I need to find a place to calm myself down a bit. I can't blame Ark; the places I went to before didn't have any good wine. But I've always had the habit of storing good wine at the association, so now that I'm back, I'll have some to satisfy my cravings.

But now a new priority has emerged: she needs to ensure she can feel at ease when she's drunk.

She strolled through the streets. The armor was very heavy when she wasn't in combat mode, making it unsuitable for running. But once she entered combat mode, the high-temperature steam generated by her own body made her already fast-moving figure even harder to see.

Take a good look around the city.

As expected, Ark was right; the city was filled with people resembling sorcerers. After all, this place was home to one of the few schools in the world that systematically trained new sorcerers, so many people here had scrolls hanging from their waists and cloth bags slung over their backs. Even at a young age, they covered most of their faces and bodies with cloaks.

But that unpleasant smell still lingers.

Dedeline felt genuinely annoyed, as if someone was secretly watching her from a distance, neither too close nor too far.

But I couldn't sense anything about it; it was so subtle.

Honestly, my recent experiences have really made me realize that there are limits to being a monster. Several of them are completely beyond my comprehension, and the feeling that all the theoretical knowledge I've learned is just a joke is really frustrating.

Dedeline paused for a moment, and the corners of her mouth slowly turned up.

The massive Dragon Fang Sword was thrown out, and the moment it left the hand, it was subjected to tremendous force. The sound of the airflow swirling around the blade was just like the roar of a dragon.

People on the street instinctively bent down, because the air currents carrying sand and dust made it impossible to open their eyes.

The alley was completely ravaged by the swirling winds, with the Dragon Fang Sword stuck at the end, and the swirling winds creating chaos throughout the alley.

Deedris is, after all, a formidable fighter who can judge auras in battle, so she can still detect if there's a sound that shouldn't be coming from somewhere.

For example, a flowerpot that gets bumped.

Her ears twitched, and scalding steam billowed from the holes in her armor. She shot off like an arrow, pulled her greatsword from the ground, and rushed onto the roof.

Indeed, I saw that black robe that flashed by.

"What a boring guy." Dedeline frowned in displeasure. He ran away after being discovered? What a coward.

She leaped onto the rooftop, then soared high into the air. Everyone on the street saw the steaming metal leap into the sky as if riding the clouds.

The enhanced jumping ability of the Fire Goat clan makes Deedri fearless in short distances; her jumping power of tens of meters is indeed enough for her to catch up with anyone in an instant.

Dedeline swung her greatsword in mid-air as white spikes shot towards her from an unexpected corner. The guy had calculated her jump path and locked onto her landing point with his weapon.

What she was trying to cut off was not a feint attack, but the spear that followed closely behind.

As the flames ignited, Deedri felt as if she had struck nothingness.

She felt nothing; she even doubted whether she had actually cut into it.

This feeling was very strange. Even the feint attack just now, which hit her armor, didn't make a sound; instead, it dissolved, leaving a white, sticky substance on her body.

But the thing was engulfed in flames the next instant, its entire armor ablaze.

A derivative of the Fire's Blessing, Fire Embrace. This technique, which involves igniting the entire body, is extremely effective against this sticky substance.

I don't know what it is, but it certainly doesn't look like anything good. So let's just deal with it for now.

Then, after stepping into the air, she leaped even higher at an even faster speed, without any contact area.

The Wind Wall, a derivative of Wind's Blessing, is originally used to counter projectiles. This ability is then used to extend her speed further by extending her steps, allowing her to move faster in areas without buildings to provide cover.

The guy had suddenly moved into a low-lying area, which was a market, probably because he felt he couldn't chase someone in a crowded place using his jumping ability. But this turn of events clearly caught him off guard. Deedri rushed in front of the man in black robes, her greatsword slashing horizontally, ready to strike.

She felt as if she had struck metal, the vibrations from her wrist making her bones tremble. Even though it was a landing strike, he shouldn't have been able to block it due to the angle and his aerial advantage.

But he did nothing; or rather, Deedris didn't see it clearly. It was blocked by something unknown just before it was about to strike.

Instead, he was thrown several meters by the reverse force, tumbling across the ground in the middle of the market. When his head hit the ground, it left a large crater. His helmet came loose and fell to the side, and his amazing red hair spread out from all sides. His beautiful yet mad face left passersby wondering whether to run away or stand by and watch.

She had underestimated her opponent. Carefully recalling what had just happened, Deedris took a deep breath. This situation was extremely dangerous; the sudden turn of events hadn't even allowed her to properly recover. If she hadn't used her elbow to brace herself upon landing, she probably wouldn't have even been able to get into a proper stance after being flipped over.

However, the guy stopped, seemingly no longer wanting to run. This approach pleased Dedeline greatly; she didn't want to spend the next few days constantly worrying about an assassin like that lurking around.

"Who are you?" Dedeline asked casually, though she knew it was pointless to ask, since she was masked and there was no way she could reveal her identity.

He didn't answer, but turned to look at Deedri, then stood there as if he wanted to say something.

The high temperature swept over him from behind; he was a middle-aged man holding a cabbage in his left hand and a radish in his right.

“Sir, this is a blessed place,” he said softly, raising his right hand. The radish, pointing to the sky, was roasted by the heat and emitted a delicious aroma. “Please do not cause trouble.”

Dedeline wanted to turn her head away. Although she knew this person was probably a good guy who hated evil, she really asked him to put the carrot in his pocket first before striking that archmage pose. Besides, what was he trying to do with that huge fireball? Wasn't this causing trouble?

The same thing happened around them; people pulled out their spellcasting tools from somewhere and started all sorts of spells.

Denos once said that the essence of sorcery is still the use of elements. However, elements are not pure. A medium is needed to cast spells, otherwise one must bear the burden of these impure elements. Therefore, the spellcasting tools used can reveal the strength of a sorcerer; someone who can release a fireball with a carrot is certainly no ordinary person.

"I don't want to cause trouble." The surrounded guy suddenly spoke, then slowly took off his hat and removed the bandages covering his face.

It was a very fair-skinned man, about 1.75 meters tall, with jet-black eyes and hair. He looked like a normal human being.

Dedely felt that she had seen this face somewhere before, that it looked familiar, but she couldn't immediately recall where she had seen it before.

The white slime clinging to her body suddenly exploded, and the cage made of fine threads rendered her unable to move.

That thing was clearly charred black! But it was completely unaffected and still functioned as before. Dedeline underestimated this unknown creature; otherwise, she wouldn't have refrained from taking any further action after being charred.

These threads were so strong that even Deedley found it difficult to break free.

Before the results were even out, a series of explosions were heard. Centered on him, countless spells were released, chaotic air currents ripped the cloth canopy away, and the chaotic elemental forces there didn't even have a chance to exert their effect, only exploding on his body. Sand and stones flew everywhere, and huge craters appeared in the ground.

Deedris finally broke free from the cocoon made of fine threads, which had helped her withstand the impact, damaging most of the area. Otherwise, she wouldn't have been able to escape.

Then she froze, staring at the monster floating in mid-air.

Strictly speaking, it is a monster supported by two spider legs that grow from its cervical spine.

The attack hadn't harmed him at all, not even the bandages. The only difference was that four metallic spider legs had appeared behind him, two supporting him and the other two floating around him.

The material of that thing was completely unknown, but it seemed indestructible. Its hardness was impossible to estimate, as tough as a rapier used to slay dragons. And that guy looked at Deedri like a wronged child.

It's like a child who gets slapped for no reason after going out, feeling wronged and about to cry.

But those around him didn't think he was a pitiful fellow. After a round of bombing, they had all evacuated, and the ground began to shake, presumably because the guards were coming. The area was completely illuminated, and from above, numerous points of light appeared.

Countless students from sorcery schools felt they had found a great opportunity to test their power and wanted to come and deal with this seemingly frail guy.

The little spider looked around, its eyes slowly dimming.

As expected, I am an oddball who doesn't fit in. This time, I was only discovered and then surrounded.

Perhaps I should have found a place to hide; coming to a human settlement was a mistake in the first place.

But before he could finish grieving, he suddenly felt his hand being pulled.

Strictly speaking, it appears to be bound by metal.

An irresistible force propelled him rapidly away from the ground. In mid-air, he stared in astonishment at Deedri. She had practically leaped in front of him, grabbing his hand and pulling him away from the center of the encirclement.

What's going on here?

"What are you trying to do, you unlucky kid? There are hundreds of sorcerers there! If you don't run, you'll be nothing but dust!" Dedeline shouted, gripping his wrist tightly. "You said you were coming back, so why are you sneaking around like this?"

Before Chris could answer, they landed on the sloping side of the tower, where they turned and jumped again. The sudden turn made Spider-Man dizzy, and he hadn't yet realized what had just happened.

In mid-air, the little spider stared blankly at the entire city.

It was still afternoon, almost dark. The sun was slowly fading, but there was still light everywhere. That was the light emitted by the condensed fire elemental spheres.

The entire city was breathtakingly beautiful in that instant, the sun radiating a red light, the ground dotted with sparkling firelight. The city was so extravagant, the stained glass windows of the towers and churches so magnificent in the firelight.

But why didn't it seem beautiful when I saw it yesterday? I was standing at the highest point, with a panoramic view from morning till night. All I felt was noise and prosperity, but it didn't resonate with me.

But right now he just felt as if he were falling from the sky.

He didn't know, he wasn't sure, the little spider just felt this moment was unusually wonderful. Although several dangerous creatures were chasing him, he was being led by the hand by a beautiful girl as they fled through the city. His helmet had been left behind in the market, and his long red hair was flowing freely.

Perhaps he wasn't so annoying, the little spider thought, and an involuntary smile crept onto his face.

Then, on the next landing, he rushed ahead at an even faster speed, his still-tight grip on Deedri's hand falling to the ground. While Deedri was still in a daze, he suddenly stopped, letting her crash into his back, and picked her up. At this moment, his spider legs disappeared into nowhere. He carried a girl wearing a tin can and ran through the streets.

This guy ran so fast, and his judgment of the area was insane. In the almost three-dimensional escape route, Deedrey could only subconsciously wrap her arms around his neck. The sun slowly went out, and they slowly disappeared into the night.
