Chapter 13 Why

In the night, houses were crackling and burning, and the air was filled with the pungent smell of fireworks.

Swords, sticks and clubs clashed in the yard and outside. The barking of dogs that was once heard in the village had disappeared without a trace, and the atmosphere was so quiet and stagnant that it was suffocating.

"Second Uncle." Madam Fang pushed aside the people who were protecting her, stepped out a few steps and looked at the shopkeeper Song outside the door. The light from the fire behind her made her face look dim and sad. "Why?"

"Why? Why else?" Shopkeeper Song said calmly, "Of course it's for money."

Mrs. Fang probably didn't expect this answer, and she wanted to cry and laugh at the same time.

"Money? You want money?" she said, pointing her finger to the sky. "Father said he would give you half of Deshengchang, but you didn't want it. Dalang asked you to join in the business, but you didn't want it. Mother said she respected you, but you didn't want it. Song Yunping, you don't want it. You said you don't want it."

Manager Song smiled.

"That which you gave me is not mine," he said. "It is a reward from you, a gift from your high position."

As he spoke, he pointed to the sky with an angry look on his face.

"I want it. I want to be your grandson for my whole life. Not just one life, but my descendants will all be indebted to you. I have worked so hard for Deshengchang, and I deserve it in the eyes of others. Even if you give me a mountain of gold and silver, is it mine? It's yours. The more I want, the more I owe you. The more I want, the better people you are in the eyes of the world. As for me, I am just a dog of your Fang family!"

These words not only made Mrs. Fang look angry and sad, but even the guards beside her were frightened.

"Song Yunping, why do you think so?" Mrs. Fang looked at him and said, "What do you think of other people's kindness?"

Shopkeeper Song chuckled.

"Why do I need other people's kindness? I've said before, I don't want kindness, I just want money." He said sternly, "When I carried Fang Shouyi out, he should have died easily, and then handed Deshengchang to me, pretending to be sworn brothers. What's the point of sworn brothers? Is it him who owes me, or me who owes him? Is it bullying?"

Mrs. Fang looked at him.

"You're crazy," she said, swallowing her sadness. "There's no need to be sad about someone like you hurting us."

The guards protected her closely. She looked around cautiously, not knowing how many more people there were besides those within her sight.

"So, father didn't die of a sudden illness?" Mrs. Fang asked again.

Shopkeeper Song smiled and looked at her with a bit of condescending sadness.

"Da Lang's wife, no matter what, you have called me your second uncle for so many years, I have to let you know what's going on." He said, "Yes, Fang Shouyi's illness is certainly not a serious one. He is as strong as an ox and would have almost died without strong medicine."

Mrs. Fang raised her hand to cover her mouth for a moment to block out the spicy feeling.

"So Dalang is you too?" she said hoarsely.

"Yes." Shopkeeper Song said, "Don't ask me anymore. I took the initiative to say that there was also Chengyu. They were all arranged by me. Oh, speaking of arrangements, Su Qiniang was of course my arrangement."

Having said this he smiled again.

"Speaking of which, Dalang is really an obedient and filial child. I gave him Su Qiniang, who was not pretty and had no special qualities, but he was still very kind to her."

Mrs. Fang was heartbroken. Thinking of these things, she hated Song Yunping and also hated themselves.

Thinking about all the things they did to show their respect and love for this man, I really wanted to die.

She pressed her chest and couldn't help screaming in pain.

"Why? Why on earth?" she screamed at the top of her lungs.

Manager Song had a calm expression, as serious as ever, but in the darkness he could no longer hide his excitement.

"For the money," he said. "I told you so."

"If you want money, we will give it to you. Just tell me. Don't you want Deshengchang? Deshengchang will give it to you." Mrs. Fang screamed.

Manager Song was also angry.

"How come you are so confused, woman?" he shouted, "That was given by you, and that's what I wanted. In the eyes of the world, Deshengchang is not mine, even if it's hanging over my head. People will only remember you and the good stories of your Fang family. I will always be a useless person who has received favors."

Mrs. Fang looked at him and didn't know whether to feel sad or angry.

"So what do you want to do?" she said.

"Tell me where Fang Chengyu is?" Shopkeeper Song recovered his expression and said, "Do you think I will believe the straw dummy you put in the car? Do you think I really came here for this dummy of yours?"

Mrs. Fang had a blank expression and straightened her back.

"I would rather sacrifice my life to feed the tiger, why should I tell you where Chengyu is?" she said.

"Tell me, I will certainly not let you go, but I will let Chengyu go." Shopkeeper Song said, with a kind look on his face, "I will let Chengyu live well until he dies."

At this point he laughed again, as if this was a very funny joke, but he quickly stopped laughing.

"Anyway, don't worry." He said calmly, "I won't kill him. I will let him live out the last part of his life well, let him live with dignity, and after he dies, his funeral will be grand and spectacular."

Mrs. Fang looked at him with a sneer and said nothing.

"Da Lang's wife, why are you doing this?" said the shopkeeper Song. "Why let him hide everywhere like a rat? What's the point?"

He said this and smiled.

"It doesn't matter if you don't say it. This is God's will." He said, regaining his composure and pointing his finger at the sky. "Your Fang family has been cut off by God. Only I can take on this Deshengchang. I, Song Yunping, am the one destined by God."

As he spoke he raised his hand.

"put…"

When Shopkeeper Song raised his hand, the guards around Madam Fang had already reacted and raised their shields.

At the same time, the sound of an arrow breaking through the air rang in my ears.

A scream followed.

The shopkeeper Song, who had originally raised his hand, curled up with his arms hugged, and the unspoken word "arrow" turned into a cry of pain.

The attendants around him rushed forward to check on him. Under the light of the torches, they saw an arrow stuck in the arm of the shopkeeper Song.

The arrow had pierced his arm, leaving only the trembling feathers visible.

"You are not God's will, so, you see, you are still one step behind."

The old woman's voice echoed in the night.

As the voices were heard, the surrounding night sky suddenly became brighter, as if countless torches were lit in an instant, and countless noises arose at the same time.

Everyone looked around in panic, only to see countless troops pouring out from all directions, even the sleeping village was crowded with people.

And these are not ordinary people.

The blazing torches illuminated their bright armor and the gleaming weapons.

Those weapons are only equipped by officers and soldiers.

It turned out that the people who came were soldiers.

The people on the side of Manager Song were in a panic.

Shopkeeper Song also endured the pain and looked at the old woman who was walking over.

"Song Yunping, thank you so much. I finally know why our Fang family has been so unlucky." Old Mrs. Fang said, looking at Song Yunping with anger in her eyes.

Shopkeeper Song looked at her and then looked around.

"Why?" He said with an incredulous look on his face.

"Why?" Old Mrs. Fang smiled coldly, "Of course it's because this is a trap, don't you know?"
