Chapter 54: Midnight Snack "I'm so stupid, really... I only know this...

"I'm so stupid, really... I only knew that my dad would go out for a walk during this time... but I really didn't know he would walk along this route!" Jello scratched his head in frustration and muttered to Mary.

"...He's your stepfather? The kind who would abuse you?"

"Of course not!" Jello immediately retorted: "He is my biological father!"

"Then why are you so afraid of him?" Mary was puzzled. "Why don't you tell him the truth?"

"Because..." The man in front of him looked anxious: "Because my father is a very..." He couldn't think of a suitable adjective, and finally simply summed it up as: "Stubborn."

"My father is like the gears in a watch. He will never allow himself to make mistakes, and he will never allow his children to make mistakes either." Jero Zeppelin pushed Mary's shoulder and said, "Let's talk while we walk. No matter what, I have to take you back first."

"Oh, thank you."

"Don't thank me, you might want to hit me later..." Jello muttered softly, and Mary didn't understand what he was saying.

"Um?"

"Nothing..." Jero Zeppelin shook his head. "Um...how long will it take for you to go back? I mean, back to your hometown...You're not Italian, so you don't have to live here with your brother forever, right?"

"Of course not," Mary said truthfully. "We'll be leaving here in about a month. Why do you ask?"

"Huh." The blond man breathed a sigh of relief, his face full of a look of having survived a disaster. "That's good, that's good."

"Tsk, stop playing dumb."

"Then I'll be frank." Jero Zeppelin took a long step and moved two meters away from Mary before continuing: "If you don't leave, we will probably be forced to become husband and wife."

"Huh?" Mary looked at Jero Zeppeli as if he were an uncivilized primitive. "You guys don't have men and women traveling together here, so they're considered a couple, right?" She recalled her previous misunderstanding. "No wonder you thought my brother Bu... and I were a couple." What a decadent and backward country, tsk tsk...

Of course, his country wouldn't tolerate being slandered like this. Jello gestured excitedly, "Huh?! How is this possible? Our country respects the freedom of men and women, okay?" He lowered his voice and said, "It's quite troublesome to explain anyway, so please don't think I'm being long-winded."

"It's okay, take your time." Anyway, she had no other way to kill time when she returned, so there was nothing wrong in listening to him talk.

"Didn't I just say that my father is a rational and cold man? He didn't say this was bad, but... I was born a disobedient child." The night breeze blew, and Jero thought of Mary's cold hands. He stopped talking, put his coat on her, and continued, "I'm making an exception to treat you today, but in my father's eyes, it's a serious dereliction of duty. Do you understand?"

Mary shook her head honestly, "I don't understand." The hospital was at fault in the first place, and she believed Jello's approach was correct. After all, everyone has their own perspectives, and as patients, Mary and Blackmoya naturally had to defend their rights.

The handsome man smiled, his flamboyant gold teeth gleaming. "You're quite funny, you know."

"That's what I think, actually," Jero Zeppelin said in a low voice, looking at the sparsely starred night sky. "But in my father's mind, breaking the rules means being punished. If he found out I was treating patients after get off work, he would fire me."

"Is your father also a doctor?"

"Not only that, the hospital is his."

"Then it was quite convenient for him to fire you."

"Hey? Little girl, I thought you would scream, 'Oh, you are the dean's son!'" Jero Zeppelin put his thighs together, spread his calves, and shouted in a strangled voice.

Mary was puzzled: "What on earth are you imitating? A psychopath?"

Unexpectedly, her humor went unappreciated. The man actually pouted and hummed, looking childish and somewhat ridiculous. Mary curled her lips at his funny expression, and Jello's sharp eyes immediately noticed: "Haha, you're laughing, right? I told you that was quite amusing just now."

Mary stopped and said, "I'm here. Do you have anything else to say?"

The other party then realized that his escort mission was completed. He was stunned for a moment and looked a little stupid: "Are we there?"

"Well, I'm staying at this hotel. The environment is nice, I like it." Mary stood at the hotel entrance. The warm light made her feel sleepy. She returned the coat that Jero had put on her and brought the conversation back on track: "So, do you want to continue? If not, I'll go upstairs."

Jero Zeppeli looked around, his long golden hair swaying back and forth with his head, smooth and beautiful.

Before... she seemed to have seen similar hair.

The hair was so smooth and beautiful. I put my hand in it and stroked it from top to bottom. There was not even a tangle.

Whose hair is this?

"What's the point of standing and talking? Let's go over there." Jero Zeppelin smiled and pushed Mary forward. "Don't worry, it's my treat."

Mary looked at the brightly lit tavern not far away and said hesitantly, "Aren't you a doctor? Doctors drink too?"

Jello rolled his eyes. "What's wrong with being a doctor? Doctors burp, fart, and poop, too." He held up his index finger and shook it in front of Mary's face. "Never elevate any profession. Everyone behind it is just an ordinary person with emotions and desires."

Yes, Mary thought to herself, if everyone knew that the president who smiled every day was actually responsible for many murders, they probably would not elect him again.

When Jello was about to reach the door of the tavern, he slipped from behind Mary to her front, opened the door for her like a gentleman, and motioned Mary to go in first.

After thanking her, Mary walked into the house. She first smelled the strong spicy aroma, which penetrated every corner of the tavern and marinated the entire tavern with the flavor.

It smells so good... Mary couldn't help but sniff, feeling a little greedy even though she wasn't hungry.

The small restaurant was full of people, who were laughing and drinking, seemingly without any worries.

Is wine a joyful thing?

Compared to Mary's awkwardness, Jeroboam Zeppeli was much more natural. He was very sharp-eyed and found a seat in the crowded room. He immediately pulled Mary over and rushed over there.

"I didn't expect you to be such a good girl. You've never been to a place like this before?" Jello handed the menu to Mary. "What do you want to eat? It's my treat."

Mary looked at the greasy menu and didn't want to pick it up with her hands. She just pointed at the third line of the menu and said, "I want fried meat skewers."

"No more?"

“No more.”

"Then even if you cry from greed later, I won't share my food with you." Jello pushed the menu a little further towards Mary: "Really?"

Mary pursed her lips and ordered another order of fried food and a beer. Only then, satisfied, did Jello take back the menu and loudly called the waiter over, chattering away. It was more like he was reading the menu than ordering.

The waiter was quite experienced, writing down everything Jero had said in a notebook, tearing off the slips and taking them to the kitchen. The chefs moved quickly, quickly having the waiter bring the sizzling meat to the table.

Jello was clearly hungry again. He ate the meat with his mouth wide open, chomping down with his eyes half closed, enjoying it. Mary, though not hungry at all, couldn't help but eat.

It tastes really good

The crust is crispy and the meat is juicy inside. Paired with an ice-cold beer, it is indeed a relaxing midnight snack.

After a few sips of beer, Jero opened up. "Well, it's just like I said before. I can't let my dad know that I treated your brother after get off work, otherwise there would be no reasonable explanation for why I sent you home."

He gestured, "Look, my mom knows my network. I can't just say you're my friend, right? Otherwise, when my dad asks me, I'll be exposed. I can't say you're the patient's family member's sister, right? Then we can only say we're lovers."

"Why can't you say she's the patient's family member's sister?"

"Do you think it's glorious to be with a patient's sister?" Jello stuck out his tongue. "My dad would definitely be mad if he knew, but I think it's fine this way now." He stuffed his mouth full and said vaguely, "Look, I'm staying with you now. If I come home late, my dad won't say anything. It's only natural to be with my girlfriend."

Seeing his face flushed a little, Mary took the beer from him and asked, "Why were you so nervous just now?"

After hearing what Mary said, Jello's eyes regained clarity. He sat up straight and said, "My father is a very traditional man. He believes that one should be responsible for women. As long as I date someone, it means we will get married."

He was a little embarrassed. “If you were from Naples, I would definitely have to explain it to my dad. But if you leave, I won’t have to worry about my dad arranging our wedding. Anyway, if my dad asks about it later, I’ll just say you dumped me.”

He sighed: "I don't know how many relationships the brothers around me have had, but I'm still single." He took the beer back from Mary and touched the glass in Mary's hand: "Thank you for lying with me, Mary."

Mary did not respond, but squinted her eyes and looked not far away. Jello turned his head following Mary's gaze and saw a weak and beautiful woman being roughly pulled by her hair by a man.

It was so noisy around that Jello couldn't hear what they were saying, but he knew with his feet that it wasn't something good.

Damn it! Jello was about to get up when he saw Mary stand up and walk straight towards them.

"You damn bastard...ah!!" The man screamed miserably, but the drunkards around him were indifferent. They ate and drank as usual and didn't even glance at each other.

Mary squeezed the man's arm and said calmly, "Let go."

"What I do is none of your business!" The well-behaved man's face flushed with anger. He tried to break free from the other party's restraints, but found that he could not shake the woman in front of him at all.

Damn it! His dignity!

The man gritted his teeth and stretched out his free hand towards the wine bottle on the table. Just as he was about to hit Mary, he felt something hit the back of his hand, and the pain was piercing.

While the other man was holding his hands and screaming, Jello picked up the iron ball on the ground and hid it behind him. He also protected Mary and the tearful girl behind him: "Hey, man, what's wrong with you? Are you feeling unwell?"

The other party ignored Jello and just cursed helplessly: "You pig-born @#$&^%$@!"

Mary looked at the other person with cold eyes. If Jello hadn't stood in front of her and prevented her from using her fists or feet, the man would have died long ago.

"Do you know who I am? How dare you do this to me!" The man roared madly, "If it weren't for that lowly woman, would I have come to this shabby place?"

The woman behind Mary was shaking with fear, but when she heard the man's words, she smiled uglier than crying: "Thank you both... It's indeed my problem... I, I should go." She walked towards the man with tears in her eyes. The guy looked like he wanted to hit her, but because both of his arms were attacked, he couldn't lift them up for the time being.

"Get out! All of you get out!"

The madman walked out of the door yelling, and the woman followed behind him with her shoulders hunched. Mary wanted to chase him, but was stopped by Jero Zeppelin.

"What are you doing?" Mary was puzzled. "Why are you stopping me?"

Jero whispered in her ear, "You're the one causing trouble when you're unfamiliar with the place. That guy has a family crest on him. Although I've never seen it, it means he has a family and is no small figure."

The American president killed Mary more than once and shrugged it off.

Seeing the contempt in Mary's eyes, Jero Zeppelin said softly: "Mary, don't hurt others."

He patted Mary's head, his eyes filled with approval and a hint of helplessness: "If you stand up for justice and punish that man today, will this woman be happy? No."

"What you're doing will only make that woman even more unhappy. When her husband recovers, he'll be beaten even harder. You can help her once, but not a second time." Although Jello felt sorry for the woman, he also knew that there was nothing he could do about this kind of thing.

Mary ignored Jello's words. She walked around the tall man and strode out the door.
