When Li Tangyan came out of the restroom, she didn't see Wen Zhaonian, who was supposed to be waiting for her outside.
She tilted her head, about to take out her phone to ask him where he was, when she heard voices coming from around the corner of the corridor ahead.
The woman's voice was soft and sweet, carrying a hint of anticipation: "Handsome, can I exchange contact information? Want to grab a bite sometime?"
Upon hearing this, Li Tangyan felt a throbbing sensation in her temple.
Although she didn't hear the handsome man the woman was talking about respond, Li Tangyan's intuition told her that the person she was talking about was the one she was looking for.
Thinking of this, Li Tangyan quickly walked over.
As soon as he turned the corner, he saw Wen Zhaonian standing tall with his back against the wall, and a woman exuding charm standing in front of him.
She wore exquisite makeup, had a curvaceous figure, and possessed a striking yet elegant appearance.
Let alone men, even women might find themselves glancing at it a couple of times.
Li Tangyan touched her nose, looked at her, then at herself, and couldn't help but feel a sense of disappointment.
However, this feeling was fleeting and was quickly replaced by a sense of crisis that Wen Zhao would be kidnapped if he didn't go soon.
Then, just as the strange woman was about to approach Wen Zhaonian for the second time, Li Tangyan, in a moment of impulsiveness, shouted, "Wen Zhaonian!"
Li Tangyan's voice was quite loud, and it quickly attracted the attention of the two of them.
Li Tangyan ran so fast that her hood fell off her head, her cheeks were slightly red, it was hard to tell whether it was from rushing or panting.
"Your girlfriend?" The woman glanced at him briefly before looking away, her gaze settling on Wen Zhaonian's face, and she licked her upper lip with the tip of her tongue.
The woman's soft voice reached their ears without any surprise.
Li Tangyan was stunned for a moment, her palms starting to get a little cold from nervousness.
Then, she raised her eyes, intending to see Wen Zhaonian's reaction, but the next second she met his gaze as he looked at her.
The phone screen had been turned off at some point, and those phoenix eyes were fixed on Li Tangyan.
It's like an abyss that you can't see into, and after the initial amazement, all that remains in your heart is a tantalizing curiosity.
The three of them were enveloped in an endless silence along the long corridor.
After a long while, Wen Zhaonian finally looked away, his words carrying a hint of nonchalance: "No."
As soon as she finished speaking, Li Tangyan let out a barely perceptible sigh of relief, and then relaxed her tense body as if all her strength had been released. But what followed was a dense, subtle sense of loss that quietly crept into her heart.
It tastes sour and astringent, like being fed a stale, sour orange – it just doesn't feel right.
On the other side, unlike Li Tangyan, the unfamiliar woman who also received an answer showed undisguised ecstasy: "Then..."
"It's inconvenient." Before she could finish speaking, Wen Zhaonian had already cut off all further possibilities.
He glanced out the window and noticed that it was getting dark and it was clearly getting late.
Hearing this, most people would choose to give up. But that woman showed unusual persistence.
She walked straight ahead and blocked Wen Zhaonian's way of leaving, her soft, watery voice still trying to seduce her rare prey: "What's inconvenient about it? Why not just try it?"
The woman's deliberately lowered voice carried a suggestive undertone, conveying an unspoken ambiguity.
Upon hearing this, Wen Zhaonian simply raised his hand and pinched the bridge of his nose.
As if she had completely lost patience, her words carried a chilling coldness, like the frost of winter: "I can't try, I'm frigid."
"..."
The few words fell, and the corridor fell into an eerie silence once more.
The person who caused all of this remained calm, as if he hadn't just said those words.
Then he took a long stride and walked past the woman who had already forgotten to continue entangled with him.
Then, like picking up a chick, she grabbed Li Tangyan, who was so shocked by her words that she forgot her previous negative emotions and was equally dumbfounded, and led her outside...
As the car moved along, the night view outside the window became a beautiful yet hazy scene frozen in my eyes.
The tightly closed car windows seemed to completely isolate the people inside from the noise of the outside world, creating a silence so profound that even the sound of a silver needle falling to the ground would be quite loud.
In the passenger seat, lost in thought, Li Tangyan let her fingertips, resting on her knees, tug at the hem of her clothes, creating wrinkles.
Time passed slowly, and just as the screen lit up and showed the exact time of eleven o'clock, Li Tangyan finally gave up trying to appease the beast in her heart called gossip.
"Um...you're really not good enough?"
Li Tangyan tried to use more euphemistic words to beautify Wen Zhaonian's original words, but as soon as she finished speaking, she realized that those two words were not euphemistic at all.
You could tell from Wen Zhaonian's expression, at least.
His long, slender index finger tapped gently on the steering wheel, making no sound whatsoever; the movement was even quite slow.
But in Li Tangyan's eyes, it was as if he was tapping not on the steering wheel, but on the top of his head.
Just like picking a watermelon in the supermarket, you first casually tap it to see if it's crisp, and then make a clean cut to separate the bright red flesh inside.
Thinking about this, and perhaps it was just her imagination, she suddenly felt that the car's air conditioning was set too low, making her shiver uncontrollably.
At the same time, Li Tangyan unconsciously touched her head, as if to make sure that her dog head was still there.
After she finished doing this, she breathed a sigh of relief and leaned back in her chair.
The brief silence made Li Tangyan dare not continue dancing in the minefield, and she was about to change the subject.
Then, Wen Zhaonian's slightly hoarse voice suddenly came out in the enclosed space: "If I say yes, what are you going to do then?"
Upon hearing this, Li Tangyan's expression froze for a moment.
Then she rested her chin on her hand, turned her head to look at Wen Zhaonian, who was always looking straight ahead, her gaze fixed, as if she were really thinking about the question.
A black Audi slowly drove along the street shrouded in night.
After turning into whichever corner, and waiting for an answer for ages, Wen Zhaonian was about to take a quick look in the rearview mirror to see if everyone next to him was falling asleep when he met a pair of eyes that were curved into crescent moons.
My gaze shifted downwards, and a bright smile graced his round face. His eyes were clear and pure, as if they could only hold the shadow of one person.
Like a summer breeze, or a beam of light shining into the darkness.
It is a silent reflection that although life is full of hardships, there is always a corner in the vast world that holds nourishment that can soothe the soul.
The vehicle, which was moving, had its brakes applied at some point.
Li Tangyan was a little curious, but when she looked back, she found that Wen Zhaonian seemed even more strange at this moment.
His thin lips were pursed, and his eyes were dark and unfathomable.
Like a flickering flame falling on an endless grassland, it could easily escalate into a raging fire if not carefully watched.
