As soon as the old lady finished speaking, Wen Zhaonian glanced one last time in the direction Li Tangyan had left before turning his gaze away.
Meeting the old lady's gaze, he nodded slightly: "Please speak."
The old lady looked at the person in front of her and noticed that Wen Zhaonian always maintained a straight posture, which was indeed rare nowadays.
Although he appears aloof, you can still see the contrast in his personality after getting to know him.
Coupled with her undeniably good looks, it's hard not to feel a sense of goodwill towards her.
The old lady smiled and nodded, then looked at Wen Zhaonian and suddenly asked, "Would you like to see some old photos of Zhouzhou?"
Although it was unclear why the old lady had suddenly brought this up, Wen Zhaonian did not show any dissatisfaction.
Seeing her get up, he also got up and followed behind her.
Soon, the old lady pulled out a thick photo album from the cabinet in the room.
Perhaps because it had been frequently handled, the album didn't have much dust on it, except for some signs of wear and tear on the cover.
The old lady placed the photo album in his hands, indicating that Wen Zhaonian should take a look first, and then she turned around to find her reading glasses.
When they returned, they happened to see Wen Zhaonian flipping through one of the photos.
The photo shows Li Tangyan at a young age.
The background looks like a bustling street scene during a festival.
She held a shark doll in one hand and a lantern in the other. In the dim candlelight shining from the lantern, although the area around her eyes looked a little red, a smile still appeared on her youthful face.
A hand with distinct knuckles gently brushed across the corner of Wen Zhaonian's eye. Wen Zhaonian lowered his gaze, his long eyelashes falling slightly to conceal his emotions.
“Hey, isn’t this a photo taken when Zhouzhou was seven years old?”
"Seeing it again now makes me realize how fast time really flies."
While sighing, Wen Zhaonian also looked over upon hearing the sound.
The old lady understood his doubts, so when she took the photo album from him, she didn't hide anything from him.
He ran his hand over the smiling face in the photo, and as he spoke, he seemed to remember something and sighed softly.
“Zhouzhou’s parents had a bad relationship and often argued, so she was often sent to my place when she was little.”
"Over time, the child will spend less and less time with their parents."
"Although she didn't show it much at the time, I could still tell that Zhouzhou really wanted her parents to spend time with her."
“I remember that her dad got a promotion or something that year, anyway, it was a good thing. Then, in his excitement, he remembered that Zhouzhou’s birthday was coming up and it was close to the time for family reunions, so he thought of taking her back to celebrate her birthday properly.”
"As a result, her father didn't come to pick her up that night. Later, when I called to ask, I found out that he had been invited out by his friends and forgot about her."
Upon hearing this, Wen Zhaonian's brows furrowed involuntarily.
His voice began to grow heavy: "And what about her mother?"
However, the old lady simply shook her head.
He sighed softly again: "Wu Chang had just had a fight with Dahai at that time. After making a scene at home, she went to another place to develop her career in a fit of anger and couldn't be bothered with these things."
"..."
"Ah Zhao, Grandma can tell you like porridge."
"But sometimes you have to be sure if your feelings can support your future together, and whether you've truly committed to this person, no matter how many bumps and stumbles you may encounter on the road ahead."
"Zhouzhou's parents were in love when they first got together."
"But what happened next..."
"Grandma didn't mean to break you up, she just hopes you'll think it over carefully before taking anything further."
"Marriage is not like dating; it's a lifelong commitment."
"Grandma hopes that she can be loved by others and also be able to love others."
At this point, the old lady couldn't help but recall an incident from a few years ago.
I think I jokingly asked about Li Tangyan's situation back then, and even said I would introduce her to someone.
What was Li Tangyan's expression like at that time?
Oh, she was smiling then, but the smile didn't reach her eyes.
Then she heard the little girl mimicking her tone and reply slowly, "Grandma, I'm a scaredy-cat, I wouldn't dare play that big!"
It's not that I don't want to, it's that I don't dare.
The old lady snapped out of her reverie and turned her gaze back to Wen Zhaonian.
She wasn't in a hurry; she had originally planned to let Wen Zhaonian think about it some more.
However, not long after she finished speaking, the old lady watched as Wen Zhaonian pulled out the photo and clenched it in his palm.
He took one last look at the photo.
When I looked up again, I saw a focused and serious gaze coming from those dark eyes.
Then, the old lady looked at the man and opened her lips.
After breaking through the coldness, the clear voice left only endless, indescribable emotions.
"Grandma, I want to marry her."
"I really want to."
"..."
When Li Tangyan came downstairs again, she saw Wen Zhaonian and the old lady sitting on the sofa, seemingly looking at something.
Just as I was about to lean closer to take a look, I noticed the old lady's slightly red eyes.
She exclaimed "Huh?" and then leaned forward, looking somewhat puzzled. "Grandma, what's wrong with your eyes? Are they bothering you?"
"It's nothing, it's probably because I rubbed my eyes because something got in them."
As she spoke, the old lady tapped her forehead again, feigning disgust: "You're such a grown woman, why are you still so affectionate? Move away, you're blocking my view."
Upon hearing this, Li Tangyan awkwardly stepped back a little.
