Chapter 354 Robbery

These words caused an uproar among the crowd, who began whispering amongst themselves, never expecting to encounter such a thing.

Many timid people ran away immediately, while others, relying on their powerful connections or overconfidence in their abilities, decided to stay and watch the excitement.

The staff in the black market all changed their expressions drastically, and many guards secretly surrounded them.

The auctioneer shook her head slightly at them, then quickly forced a smile and went to greet Sang Qian: "Sir, is there some misunderstanding? All our activities are reported to higher authorities."

As she spoke, she stuffed a stack of silver notes into his arms.

The black market has been able to thrive in Brightmoon City for so many years, it's impossible that it hasn't cultivated good relations with the authorities. Even tonight's auction was reported to the relevant departments, albeit under a different name.

Sang Qian shoved her away: "Don't give me that crap, search them!"

"Yes!" His men rushed backstage like wolves. The items that had been auctioned earlier had already been delivered, and now only the salt permits remained.

Qin Wanru found it strange and asked in a low voice, "Didn't you say he wouldn't come over in a big way? Then what's going on now?"

Zu An pointed to their clothes: "Did you notice? They weren't wearing official robes this time, they were all in civilian clothes; and they claimed that they received a tip from the public that there were contraband items here, and there was no mention of salt permits. Obviously, they wanted to handle this quietly."

The woman on the stage looked rather unpleasant: "General Sang, isn't this a bit against the rules?"

For someone in her line of work, being familiar with the city's high-ranking officials and dignitaries is a basic requirement. Sang Qian, whether it's his father or his own position, is a well-known figure in the city, so it's not surprising that she knows them.

"How is it against the rules? We are responsible for apprehending thieves. If everything you have is legitimate, then there's nothing to worry about. We will never wrong an innocent person, but we also won't let any bad person go unpunished." Sang Qian said with a businesslike attitude.

The group of people in the black market were furious, and several of them couldn't wait to rush forward, but they were stopped by their companions.

Seeing that Sang Qian and his group were serious, the people on the black market resigned themselves to their fate, and the other onlookers finally couldn't stand it any longer and started to leave.

Zu An then pulled Qin Wanru up: "Let's go!"

"Just like that, you're leaving?" Qin Wanru was completely bewildered, forgetting all about blaming the other person for rudely holding her hand.

“If we go out with the crowd now, no one will notice us. Staying behind would be too conspicuous,” Zaun continued to explain. “Besides, it’s obvious that neither side will clash here.”

Qin Wanru was taken aback: "Do you think the people in the black market would dare to lay a hand on Sang Qian?"

"He wouldn't dare to do it openly, but who knows what he might do in private." Zu An thought of Qiu Honglei's solemn warning and knew that the forces behind him would definitely not sit idly by and suffer such a great loss.

Firstly, this batch of salt permits was worth several million taels of silver; secondly, Sang Qian had broken the rules.

If the black market doesn't take action, their reputation will be completely ruined.

In some ways, this reputation is even more important than millions of taels of silver.

Unfortunately, Sang Qian was unaware of this. From Qin Wanru's tone just now, it was clear that in the eyes of the high-ranking officials and nobles of Mingyue City, the black market was just a low-level force that could be bullied without consequence.

Who could have predicted that such a behemoth was lurking behind the other side?

Sigh, this is what happens when you suffer from information asymmetry.

Zu An pulled Qin Wanru away from the courtyard, but they didn't go far. Instead, they hid in a large tree nearby.

Although Qin Wanru had some doubts about his judgment, seeing how certain he was, she subconsciously believed him to some extent.

The two hid in the tree when Qin Wanru's eyes suddenly narrowed. She had seen Ji Wuli and the other guys who had bullied her earlier.

"Damn it, I didn't expect the government officials to come. I was planning to go find that girl."

"Isn't it strange? At first I thought that girl was ugly, but now when I think about it, I find her more and more attractive, and I feel really itchy inside."

"Hehe, with that perky butt and those full breasts, why even look at her face?"

"That woman is like a ripe peach, so fresh and juicy. It must be incredibly pleasurable to have sex with her. I'm even a little envious of the man next to her. He's living the life of a god every day."

...

Zuan felt somewhat embarrassed. These guys were spewing vulgarities, truly courting death to a certain degree. It was just a pity that he didn't have any ranged attack methods and couldn't stop them from continuing their nonsense.

Qin Wanru, standing to the side, was already so angry that her face turned pale. She casually picked a few leaves, flicked them with her fingers, and the leaves shot out several streaks of green light in the darkness.

Zu An was both amazed and impressed. As expected of a sixth-rank cultivator, his move was so elegant that he could never do it.

Ouch, my butt!

"Who hit me!"

"My back!"

"Damn it, who slapped me? I've knocked out a few more teeth!"

The group cursed angrily and looked around cautiously, but unfortunately they found nothing.

"Could it be a ghost?"

"I get a chill down my spine just from what you said."

"Hurry up, hurry up!"

...

Seeing the men leave in a panic, Zu'an was somewhat surprised: "Madam didn't kill them?"

"Am I such a vicious woman in your eyes?" Qin Wanru snorted irritably. "These guys are despicable, but they don't deserve to die. A little lesson is enough."
