Pei Mianman raised her fist: "Don't worry, I'm fully recovered now, and I can help you even if we encounter danger."
Zuan laughed: "Then I'd rather not encounter any danger."
Just then, a sudden sense of alarm struck him, and he quickly pushed Pei Mianman aside, shouting, "Watch out!"
At the same time, Pei Mianman also shouted "Be careful!"
The two leaped to the sides to dodge, and a light gray tongue landed directly where they had just been standing, kicking up dust.
Upon seeing that familiar tongue, the two felt a jolt in their hearts and quickly looked to the side.
A terrifying figure slowly emerged from the bluish-gray mist. Its strange head, mouthful of white teeth, drool dripping from the corner of its mouth, and the eye on its shoulder were all identical to the creature below.
Another gluttonous beast!
"What kind of luck am I having today? Why do I keep running into these strange and weird things?" Zu An sighed, but he wasn't too worried. He had mainly suffered losses down below because he was ambushed by the Taotie and was unfamiliar with its characteristics. Now that Pei Mianman had recovered and understood the Taotie's various methods from the previous battle, it would obviously be much easier to fight her again.
The Taotie seemed to sense his disdain, and it roared and pounced on Zu'an. With a thud of its hind legs, it appeared in front of him in the blink of an eye.
Zaun was prepared and slid in from under it, swinging his sword upwards, intending to use the Tai'a sword to pierce its belly and disembowel it.
Little did he know that the Taotie, despite its large size, was surprisingly agile. It slapped his sword aside with one hand and then slapped him across the face with the other.
At the same time, the opponent's long tail stabbed directly at his stomach.
Zuan hurriedly braced himself on the ground, disregarding his appearance, and awkwardly slipped out from under the other person's stomach.
"Damn it, those keyboard warriors on the internet in my past life who came up with the theory of sliding tackle to kill tigers were really idiotic!" Zuan cursed inwardly.
At this moment, the Taotie had already landed. It pushed off the ground with its front paws and then pounced on him with a whimper. Its agility far surpassed that of humans.
Just then, a burst of black flames flew over and wrapped around the Taotie, clearly Pei Mianman had made her move.
The Taotie let out a startled roar, but to everyone's ears it still sounded like whimpering, only the tone was slightly different.
I don't know what's wrong with the Taotie's skin, but the black flames that were hard to shake off after sticking to it started to extinguish after it rolled around a few times.
Startled, Zuan rushed forward and, taking advantage of the Taotie's attention being focused on the black flames on its body, stabbed its shoulder and eye with his sword, just like he had done to the Taotie in the pit before.
The Taotie let out a startled roar, and then fell silent. It hadn't expected to die so easily; it still had so many skills it hadn't used yet!
Zuan put the Tai'a sword back: "Damanman, thank you so much just now."
“If you hadn’t distracted it, my black flames wouldn’t have been able to burn it.” Pei Mianman then frowned, looking at the corpse on the ground with some suspicion. “But what’s wrong with this monster? Why can’t my black flames kill it?”
You should know that her black flames can burn steel to ashes, yet they can't do anything to this flesh and blood body.
“This Taotie is indeed a bit strange. My dagger had no effect on it before.” Zuan still couldn’t figure out why the Death Dagger had stopped working.
"Taotie? You know what that is?" Pei Mianman asked curiously.
“Yes, I’ve read some records about it…” Zuan recounted the descriptions from his memory to her.
Pei Mianman looked surprised: "How come I've never heard of this before? Where did you see it?"
Zuan chuckled and said, "The world is full of wonders, there are plenty of things you haven't seen."
Pei Mianman had no doubts about this: "This place is too strange. Let's find an exit quickly."
Zuan nodded: "That's right, but the fog is so thick everywhere, we need to be careful not to run into those Taotie monsters again."
As soon as he finished speaking, a series of soft moaning sounds rose and fell around him.
Zuan: "???"
The two trembled and couldn't help but look towards the source of the sound. They saw several figures vaguely appearing in the mist. What else could they be but Taotie?
Zu An wanted to slap himself a few times. What a jinx! He had just said it and it happened to him. It was like his words had come true.
If I were to say I wanted to be invincible and have a harem of wives and concubines, would that really be possible?
Although he was inwardly cursing, he didn't slow down at all, grabbing Pei Mianman and shouting, "Run!"
The two of them could handle one Taotie without much trouble, but with so many coming, they were no match for each other.
Seeing the two escape, the Taotie whimpered and chased after them. However, halfway through the chase, they suddenly saw the corpse of the Taotie and stopped in their tracks. They surrounded it and began to tear and devour it. Soon, the huge corpse was completely devoured, and even the blood that flowed onto the ground was completely consumed.
Zu An grabbed Pei Mianman and ran for his life, not daring to stop even though he caught a glimpse of the Taotie's movements out of the corner of his eye.
They didn't know how long they had been running, but suddenly a large door appeared in front of them.
The gate was extremely majestic, standing twenty or thirty meters high, with many enormous stone pillars in front of it, each so thick that two people could not encircle it.
The two stood in front of the door and suddenly felt very small. Looking at the gate in front of them, a magnificent aura came over them.
Unfortunately, the gates were tightly shut, and given the size of the two stone doors, it was clear that they could not be opened by manpower alone.
