Chapter Fifty-Nine: He Came to Save Her
Xu Bozhou rushed in, his figure radiating a chilling aura, his fox-like eyes gleaming with icy coldness.
Su Xiao was being held down, her small face devoid of color, her lips a sickly white, her eyes slightly red but without tears, leaving only a deep, deathly stillness, like a deep pool shrouded in thick fog.
The girl seemed lifeless, her long eyelashes drooping, casting a faint shadow under her eyes, and even her trembling carried a helpless despair.
He had never seen Su Xiao like this before.
Xu Bozhou's heart clenched violently. He rushed forward like a madman, grabbed Xu Lin by the collar, and slammed him against the wall.
His eyes were bloodshot, and the force in his hands grew heavier and heavier.
Chen Huai and his men quickly subdued the remaining two men, but fearing they might cause a death at the Yan family's residence, he stepped forward to stop them.
"Sir, please take Miss back first. We'll take care of things here."
"......"
Thinking of Su Xiao, Xu Bozhou's emotions finally calmed down. He left Xu Lin, who had already fainted, and walked a few steps to Su Xiao.
He carefully picked her up horizontally, and the girl's body was stiff, but she did not struggle at all.
His empty eyes stared straight at the ceiling, as if most of his soul had been ripped out, leaving only a lifeless shell.
"Xiaoxiao?" His Adam's apple bobbed, his voice was terribly hoarse, and trembled without him even realizing it. "I'll take you home. Everything's alright now."
Su Xiao still didn't react. Her empty gaze slowly moved to his face, but it was as if she were looking at a complete stranger.
Without feeling wronged, without feeling afraid, and without even feeling resistant, Xu Bozhou's heart suddenly clenched, and the pain was so intense that he could barely hold onto the person in his arms.
After speeding back to Luofeng Garden, Su Xiao was gently placed on the large bed in the bedroom. She lay there quietly, her hands folded over her abdomen, like a delicate but soulless doll.
Chen Huai quickly invited Gu Ming over.
The Gu family is a family of traditional Chinese medicine practitioners, and Gu Ming is one of the best of his generation. If it weren't for his relationship with Xu Bozhou, he wouldn't have been selected at all.
Dr. Gu squatted down by the bed, placed his hand on Su Xiao's wrist, and shone a flashlight into her pupils, his brows furrowing more and more tightly.
"It is acute post-traumatic stress disorder."
Dr. Gu straightened up, pulled Xu Bozhou into the corridor, and lowered his voice.
“She has shut herself off now and is not responding to anything outside. Let’s give her a sedative injection to let her sleep for a while, and then do psychological counseling when she wakes up. We can’t rush it.”
Xu Bozhou leaned against the wall, his fingertips turning white, watching Dr. Gu prepare the injection, his resentment growing even stronger.
He won't let Xu Lin, the Xia family, or the Yan family get away with it.
When the needle pierced Su Xiao's arm, she finally showed a slight reaction, but still didn't move, just staring blankly at the ceiling.
The sedative took effect quickly, and Su Xiao's breathing gradually became steady, her long eyelashes casting a light shadow under her eyes.
Xu Bozhou gently pushed open the door, walked to the bedside and sat down, carefully taking her cold hand in his.
The girl's hands were small, completely enveloped by his large palms.
He lowered his head and placed the two people's hands on his forehead in prayer, his heart feeling as if it were being repeatedly pounded by a blunt instrument, shattering into pieces.
"Don't you hate me?"
His voice was soft, with a heavy nasal tone, and the calluses on his fingertips brushed against her cheek.
"Su Xiao, if you don't wake up, I'll devour the entire gallery... I'm begging you..."
The rain was still falling outside the window, the pattering sound tapping against the glass, as if repeating all the suffering she had experienced in the past.
When Su Xiao was four years old, her usually proud mother suddenly fell from grace and went insane.
Her father was unwilling to send her to the hospital to be confined, so he had to keep her by his side every day, but life is always full of surprises.
That day he had to go out to sign a very important contract. Before leaving, he told the neighbors what to do and locked the doors and windows, but his mother still ran away.
The fate of a beautiful, richly dressed madwoman is predictable.
When her father brought her home again, she was wrapped in a coat and had lost consciousness.
After coaxing her to sleep, her father sat on the balcony smoking all night, determined to hire a nanny to take care of his mother.
But back then, my family wasn't that wealthy, and my father hadn't started his business yet.
He could only leave early and return late to earn more money, but Su Xiao never expected that one rainy evening...
She returned home happily from daycare, opened the door, only to find her mother's body hanging from the rafters...
Xu Bozhou sat there, holding her hand, motionless, until the sky began to lighten.
When Xu An returned, he saw Su Xiao leaning against the bedside as soon as he entered the room. His usually impeccably ironed shirt was wrinkled, and his dark circles were clearly visible.
"Is Xiaoxiao alright?" Her eyes were red, and her voice was choked with sobs.
"Gu Ming said he needs to sleep for a while longer, and he will need psychological counseling when he wakes up."
Xu Bozhou rubbed his temples.
"Keep an eye on things. I'll go make her some porridge; she has a sensitive stomach and can't go hungry."
"Um."
Xu An nodded. She received the message in the evening, so she contacted Chen Huai and drove to the Yan family to handle the matter there.
I'm exhausted after staying up all night.
Xu Bozhou flipped an apron downstairs and put it on. The dark blue cotton apron made him look particularly awkward.
He hadn't cooked for over a decade, and his movements were still a bit rusty. He adjusted the stove's heat several times until a faint aroma of rice wafted from the pot, at which point he finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Sitting on a small stool in front of the stove, his eyes were fixed on the foam rising in the pot.
When the porridge had thickened, he got up and ladled it into a white porcelain bowl. Before he could even untie his apron, he heard Xu An's frantic shouts coming from upstairs:
"Uncle! Uncle, come quick!"
Xu Bozhou immediately disregarded the heat and rushed upstairs with his apron.
He grabbed Xu An's arm, his brows furrowed so deeply they could trap a fly: "What's wrong? Is she awake or not feeling well?"
Xu An's face turned pale, and he stammered as he waved his hands:
"My eyes hurt, so I went to the bathroom to remove my contact lenses. When I came back, the door was locked from the inside, and she didn't respond when I called her!"
Xu Bozhou's heart sank. He quickly walked to the bedroom door, gently turned the doorknob with his fingers, but it didn't budge.
He pressed his ear against the door and listened; it was completely silent inside, without a sound.
Su Xiao sat on the floor beside the bed, her fingertips unconsciously rubbing the white porcelain shard in her palm.
The edges of the porcelain shards still bore traces of dried blood, which stung my palm.
The rain outside the window hadn't stopped; the pattering sound was like maggots clinging to her bones, tapping against her taut nerves.
