Chapter Fifty-Eight: Yan Mingshen Feels Heartache

She walked out, forcing herself to remain calm, her voice trembling: "Could it be... someone who had a grudge against the Su family before?"

Xu Bozhou ignored her and took out his phone to call Tang Yi:

"Su Xiao has disappeared. Help me impound the car belonging to the Yan family and have them checked strictly on the highway."

"Okay, I'll contact the person right away," Tang Yi replied quickly.

After hanging up the phone, he stared in the direction of the bathroom, his heart feeling like it was being squeezed tightly by a hand, the pain almost making it hard for him to breathe.

He could still picture the blush on Su Xiao's ears when she looked up at him. He had just dismissed the people following her, but he hadn't expected the danger to come so quickly.

He should have realized that if the Yan family dared to touch Xu Lin, they would dare to touch Su Xiao as well.

"Sir, should we inform Miss Xu An?" Chen Huai asked cautiously.

"No need, the few people she has aren't much of a help."

Xu Bozhou closed his eyes briefly, and when he opened them again, the panic in his eyes was replaced by extreme coldness.

The Yan family has been living too peacefully these past few years. If something were to happen to Su Xiao today, he would drag the entire Xu family down to hell, even if it meant risking everything.

As soon as Xu Bozhou's figure disappeared at the entrance of the venue, the pressure around Yan Mingshen instantly dropped to freezing point.

He slowly pulled his arm out of her embrace, looked at Xia Zhi who was still feigning innocence, and said firmly:

"You did it, didn't you?"

Xia Zhi froze, instinctively taking a half-step back. A flicker of panic crossed her eyes, but she still forced a wronged expression:

"Ming Shen, how could you say that to me? How could I possibly harm Miss Su..."

Before she could finish speaking, Yan Mingshen's cold gaze forced her to swallow her words.

He knew Xia Zhi too well; her clumsy pretense was no match for him.

"Of course you can deny it."

Yan Mingshen stepped forward, his tall figure casting a shadow that completely enveloped Xia Zhi.

"But have you considered the consequences? Or should I call Xu Bozhou back now and you go talk to the Xu family?"

His voice was filled with suppressed anger.

He didn't want to treat Xia Zhi like this, but this time he had already crossed the line.

If she hadn't done it cleanly, Xu Bozhou would have caught her red-handed.

Did she think she could still stand here safely?

"Xia Zhi, I'm giving you one last chance..."

Xia Zhi's mental defenses completely collapsed. Her legs went weak, and she almost knelt down. Tears welled up instantly.

She was unwilling to accept it:

“Ming Shen, I’m doing this all for you! Su Xiao is a jinx; as long as she’s around, you’ll never see me! I just want to teach her a lesson and keep her away from you…”

"lesson?"

Yan Mingshen sneered, his tone full of sarcasm.

"Your so-called lesson is to push her in front of that madman Xu Lin?"

He looked down at the hysterical woman in front of him, feeling only a sense of unfamiliarity and disgust.

How could that seemingly gentle and harmless girl have become so vicious?

He pulled his phone out of his pocket and threw it in front of Xia Zhi, the screen slamming onto the carpet with a "thud."

"Call Zhou Manyun and tell her to take Su Xiao to the basement of the villa in the west of the city, and tell her not to let Xu Lin touch her."

Xia Zhi stared at the phone on the ground, her fingers curled up, hesitant to pick it up.

She was unwilling to accept it. She knew that if she had just given Su Xiao another push, she would have been completely ruined, but Yan Mingshen insisted on protecting her!

But when she met Yan Mingshen's cold eyes, she ultimately dared not disobey. Trembling, she picked up her phone and dialed Zhou Manyun's number.

"Hello, Aunt Zhou..."

Xia Zhi's voice was trembling with tears, but she dared not utter a single unnecessary word.

"Ming Shen wants you to take Su Xiao to the basement of the villa in the west of the city, and forbid Xu Lin from touching her..."

Zhou Manyun was silent for a few seconds on the other end of the phone, then her cold, hard voice came through: "Understood."

After hanging up the phone, Xia Zhi looked up at Yan Mingshen with teary eyes:

"Ming Shen, do you really care about her that much? Even if she has Xu Bozhou in her heart?"

Yan Mingshen did not answer, but turned to look at the entrance of the venue, his eyes filled with gloom.

*

Zhou Manyun gripped her phone, gave a cold snort, and nonchalantly blew on her nails:

"Yan Mingshen feels sorry for him, what a pity."

She tossed her phone onto the mahogany table, got up, walked to the window, and looked at the sycamore trees in the old courtyard, her eyes full of calculation.

What she wanted was never simply to imprison Su Xiao, but to use Xu Lin to completely sever Yan Mingshen's lingering feelings for Su Xiao.

Su Xiao was awakened by the taste of blood in her mouth. Her eyes were covered with a rough black cloth, and her hands and feet were bound tightly.

She gritted her teeth and slowly slid to the headboard by swaying her body, using the back of her head against the pillow to rub off the cloth covering her eyes little by little.

The dim light made her squint, and she realized that she was in an unfamiliar room.

The rain outside was getting heavier and heavier, which aggravated her fragile and sensitive nerves.

Without time to think, she turned around and kicked the blue-and-white porcelain vase on the bedside table hard.

With a loud crash, the vase shattered on the floor.

Su Xiao didn't care about anything else. Gu Yong rolled off the bed, turned her back to the floor, picked up a shard of porcelain, and cut the rope on her wrist.

The hemp rope stung her skin, but she dared not stop. With each cut, her heart beat faster.

She knew that staying here would only make things more dangerous.

The rope was finally cut, and she got up to untie the rope around her ankle, but then she heard the sound of a wheelchair rolling outside the door.

Su Xiao shuddered, quickly freed herself from the ropes, and tried to run to the window.

Below her was the back mountain of the Yan family's old residence. She gritted her teeth and was about to jump down.

Suddenly, someone grabbed his wrist and pinned him against the wall.

Immediately afterwards, Xu Lin was pushed in by his bodyguard in a wheelchair.

A sinister smile played on his lips, his eyes murky and crazed as he stared intently at Su Xiao, like a predator eyeing its prey.

"Miss Su, it's been a long time..."

Su Xiao's back instantly broke out in a cold sweat, and her body trembled involuntarily.

"Xu Lin, aren't you afraid Xu Bozhou will kill you?"

"So what? I'm already useless anyway, so I might as well enjoy myself before I die."

Xu Lin's eyes revealed malice.

"Aunt Zhou said I should 'treat' you well. Shall we play a game? Just a game..."

As soon as he finished speaking, he gave a wink to his bodyguards, and the two bodyguards immediately pounced on Su Xiao.

Su Xiao gripped the porcelain shard tightly, and the sharp fragment pierced the stomach of the bodyguard holding her down.

The bodyguard groaned in pain, released his grip, clutched his stomach, and staggered backward, blood instantly soaking through his black suit.

Without pausing, she turned around and kicked another bodyguard in the shin.

The heel slammed hard against the other person's kneecap. Taking the opportunity, she ran towards the door, but was grabbed by the hair and thrown violently onto the bed.

Su Xiao felt so much pain that her vision went black, and the porcelain shard in her hand clattered to the ground.

"Run! Why have you stopped running?"

Xu Lin grinned as the bodyguard pushed him in front of her. His withered fingers touched Su Xiao's cheek, the icy touch sending shivers down her spine.

Thanks to her, he has been living a life worse than a pig or a dog during this period.

Xu Yu dared not do anything except protect him; he hated it.

She's a whore, yet she's putting on a virtuous facade in front of him. Who knows how much more promiscuous she'll be with Yan Mingshen.

Su Xiao turned her head away from his touch, her eyes filled with disgust and fear, but she could only bite her lip tightly.

It's raining again.

My mother also hanged herself in the bedroom on a rainy day like this. She couldn't control the coldness all over her body, and the absurd feeling of being on the verge of death made her completely lose her color.

Su Xiao closed her eyes... Was she going to die in the rain too?

Just as Xu Lin's hand was about to touch her collar.

With a loud bang, the door was kicked open.
